Re: Timer Program that works with JAWS

I've been using Steve's Talking Clock for years.

http://clock.steve-audio.net/

It's versatile, Jaws-friendly, and features all kinds of sounds and voices. And best of all, it will do exactly what you want it to do.

Just came back from my physical therapist who has assigned me certain exercises. I also need to check my posture every 15 minutes. I could set Outlook reminders, but I would have to dismiss them, and that is a pain.
I'm just looking for something that will ring a little bell or, even better, prompt JAWS to say, "Remember to sit up straight and ..."
I guess I need my 5th grade teacher back.
Seriously, has anyone heard of such a program? One of my associates has a timer type program, but it is totally graphical for some reason, and JAWS won't read anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

I do not know what it is called exactly but we have these little small carry oven timers.
No access but you can memorize where the buttons are and keep on starting it at the time you set it up for.
It beeps like crazy until you go and hit stop. And it is ready to start again if you hit the start button.
Sometimes I use it myself just to keep myself from getting lost in space and losing track of time. Like to set for every 30 minutes or so.

Flat little things about the size of a credit card. They have a belt clip on them. Pretty handy. At kitchen stores I think is where my wife got it.

Hello there;

Not sure about this, but doesn't the accessible and webbie have a clock with
which you can set reminders, every 15 30 etc?
You can have chimes on or off?

Instead of trying to find a timer program that works with JAWS (I'm not
aware of any), why not just buy an inexpensive talking countdown timer from
a merchant like Future Aids? They have a neat little talking timer/clock
for only $13.95 with free shipping:

It's been so long for me that I'm not sure I remember everything...

1. set the screen echo to "all"
2. You typically need to navigate the screen using either the Jaws cursor or the invisible curser. The Jaws curser will activate hotspots and so results in references, footnotes, and the like being read. If you want to read the screen without that happening, use the invisible curser.
3. When I move the Jaws curser over buttons at the top of the screen, Jaws speaks the tooltips sense I have screen echo set to all. This is how I do things like toggle the table of contents on and off.
4. When using the menus, Jaws does not speak the main menu (file, edit, view, etc.). Therefore, I either use alt keys (e. g. alt-f for the file menu) to activate a particular menu. Then I arrow up and down through the menu. Jaws does speak the menu items as I do this.
5. Sometimes when performing functions such as loading or saving workspaces or navigating your library, you will need to experiment with turning the virtual curser off, changing screen echo to highlighted, and so on.
6. I move between commentaries and Bible versions by using the left and right arrow keys. For this to work you have to make sure the PC curser is in the book text and not in the top area with the menu and buttons. Use the insert+numpad plus to route the PC curser to the Jaws curser when the Jaws curser is located somewhere in the text.

I haven't figured out a decent ways to do much with the Greek, Hebrew, etc. I also haven't done much with defining my own collections.

Hope this helps. Follow-up questions are welcome.

Ralph

Hello all, newby here,
I have just recently upgraded from windows XP to windows7, jaws 9 to jaws 12

and desk top to laptop, a learning curve for sure. Therefor, right now
questions will be very basic. I didn't see any rules etc for this list so
let me know if another list would be better.
Right now looking to find how to change volume of speakers on the fly. I'm
use to just turning a knob on my desk top speakers.

When I am downloading digital books from Library of Congress and I go to put

multiple books on my thumb drive, I always get a prompt saying there is
already a folder with that name and click folder I want to keep. I ignore
that prompt, because nothing seems to happen if I do click on it, just tab
to the button saying copy but don't replace, hit space bar, however, I am
constantly brought back to the same prompt until I keep tabbing until I
reach a button that says skip, and then the last 5 seconds of the download
to thumb drive finishes. All books end up on the thumb drive and able to
read just fine but what's up with this?

thanks
Dee

I have used Libronix 3 Bible software sense Logos Systems first released it.
Yesterday I must have unintentionally changed a setting because it's not working as it did. I did not download an update to Libronix so I know it's not that. I did update Vista and downloaded IE9 but don't know why that would affect Libronix.

I have screen echo set to "all". When I move the Jaws cursor across a highlighted item Libronix pops up the Bible reference, footnote, etc.
associated with the highlighted text. Jaws reads the popped up information.

Beginning yesterday, the popup window is appearing in the middle of the screen instead of the bottom and Jaws isn't reading it even though screen echo is still set to "all".

Does anyone who uses Libronix know what setting I've unwittingly changed?

Thanks

Re: Tab Margins Resetting Them

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Well, tabs and margins, so far as I know, are set differently.
If you are talking about top, bottom, left, and right margins, go to File and then Page layout. You can set all 4 margins there.
For tabs, go to Format and then Paragraph. There are two tabs. Pick the one that says indents and line spacing.
Tab over (and this takes several tabs) past line spacing. You will then come to a tabs dialog box.
There is where you adjust your tabs.

Mike & Barbara in Arcadia <mb69mach1@...>

Hi All,

I'm running XP & Office 2002. For the life of me I can't find where to
reset my tab maargins in Word! Would someone please give me a hard kick , I
mean, directions on how to do this! All help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much, take care.
Mike
