Will Jaws read a Kindle book that's not text to speech enabled?

Matthew Bullis <matthewbullis@...>

Hello, according to various reviews of the Kindle app for pc with the accessibility, if the text to speech isn't enabled on a certain book, Jaws should read the text. I'm concerned, because if the text to speech is enabled, then I can't turn it off and let Jaws read the book in my preferred voice. I also can't arrow up and down through the text. So will I indeed get the text read to me if I buy the new Stephen King short story called Mile 81? The page says that text to speech isn't enabled, but I don't want to spend the three dollars if Jaws won't read it, and take the chance that Amazon may not give back the money. The link for this story is here:
http://www.amazon.com/Mile-81-ebook/dp/B005COO1X6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313679407&sr=8-1
Also, if there's some way to turn off the tts and let Jaws read from the Kindle app all the time, I'd like to find that out, although Amazon says it can't be done.
Thanks.
Matthew

I had one, but the REPO man took it when I got fired.
I loved it. I used it to read the mail, something my sighted wife would
rather not do.

No you are not. You made a mistake. Most of us on this list aren't

with your insistence your ISP never blocks anything. However, that having

Hi, I cant test this at the moment, but by the sound of it you have nothing
to loos.
Im asuming that windows is still starting up ok?
if so go to the program files folder & to Freedom Scientific & coppy the 2
folders, Activator, & Authorization Coppy them onto a flash stick or
external drive.
If it wont let you coppy them, you may need to stop jaws from starting on
reboot & use NVDA to coppy them.

after you reinstall the system, re install jaws & I would suggest you set
jaws not to start automaticly & then reboot, then use NVDA to coppy the 2
folders you coppied before back into the Freedom Scientific folder over
writing the existing ones.

As I said havent tested this but because you are reinstalling your system
with out any hardware or OS changes this may work, & you wont need to use
another auth key.

Good luck,
let me know how you go.

It won't work with the JAWS 12 authorization anyway so it won't work. You have to wait for the beta anyway.

Out of stupidity, I gave you all a link I wasn't supposed to. I thought it
was already common knowledge.
Please do not, I repeat, do not download anything off there as it could get
someone in trouble.
Thank you very much.
Just wait the extra time for the beta to be released which is only a few
days.

I'm totally serious, at least that's what the JAWS site says. It works
with graphical text and they used a setup file to demonstrate it. I'm
trying to find out more, but there isn't much info about it now. Guess
I'll find out next week.

it was some years ago I do not have that copy of office any more. I also
heard someone called Jamil,I cannot remember his full name had tips for free
ocr packages, I am sure some of you will know who I mean regards dorothy

installing jaws without burning a key

Hi,

Someone had a file or set of instructions to install jaws without burning a
