yes it is I think but it does work and you asked if it did,,and as I said you cannot go wrong as it does not support XP but based on your system, the reply was correct, maybe others have not found it slow,I think some updates came in last night but I have not looked at them in detail Dorothy

Hi all I installed internet explorer a few days ago and one thing I
imidietly relised is that jaws doesn't give you the status while
loading pages e.g. 10%, 40% etc. at first this didn't bother me but I
would like to know how to get it to speak the status again. Just
another observation, is it just me or is IE 9 genarally slower than IE
8?

As far as I noticed, XP had a whole minute of inactivity after JAWS 13 was trying to load. Didn't notice too long a startup in Windows 7.

If using Windows 7 and/or Vista you'll possibly notice a slower start up time initially as Windows 7 learns what you use the most and loads that first. So if you install a newer version of jaws it may be that windows doesn't see it as the same programme as before. Over a few days that should improve.

Re: JAWS 13 Odds & Ends

Dave...

Dave Mitchell,

With Research It Weather, I'm getting readings in Celsius.
Tell FS via the Beta Report.
I seem to have forgotten how to navigate the Topics list in the JAWS help
area. I wanted to learn more about OCR but could not open the topic under
'What's new'.
Go to the FS site and fine the What's New in JAWS 13 section. All is
there. I wouldn't trust the help file yet, it may not yet be updated.
I have forgotten how to silence the 'alt' when doing 'alt /tab.
Settings Center/Key Labels Page. Mute/Unmute is there.
Lastly, the Merge utility is unavailable but maybe it will work in the final
version.
Not surprised, and I advise never use it as ~50% of Tech Support at FS say
not to. I also advise you use it, since ~100% of the remaining tech
support at FS advise using it. I'm purposely sitting on the fence because
they do, as well. In any case very likely not functional yet in JAWS 13.

Okay, I had to peek. Can anyone tell me what's the difference (if there is
one) between their repeated phrases: "Resolved an issue" and "Addressed an
issue"

Does one mean they fixed it and the other that they acknowledged it?

They use these praises ad nauseum in the list, and no, I'm not going to send
a message to support@freedomscientific.com just to get a blank stare in
return.

Aside from that, it sound like they may have "resolved" some "issues" that
I've had with Excel, but not sure if all my personally-reported "issues"
have been "addressed" to my satisfaction. Saw that MS-Access 2007 got a
single-line honorable mention - hope eternal!

I may do the obviously stupid thing and install this some time tonight, just
out of morbid curiosity. If you don't hear anything from me for a couple
weeks, then it means JAWS 13 ate my computer.

Tom,

Depending on your version of Word, there are different ways to get at this.
But somewhere in options there are checkboxes to control what characters
Word will display, and I think a blank is one of them.

Also there may be a setting in the text page of the Settings Center to
handle this, or perhaps in the Key Labels page, where you can mute or unmute
the speaking of a spacebar press.

A few areas to browse around in.

Hi, all.

I have just noticed a strange problem when using Jaws with my work computer
when in Microsoft Word.

When I am editing a document, all of the other characters speak except for
the space. In other words, when I hit the space bar, nothing happens. It
used to be that Jaws would say "blank", to indicate the existence of a blank
space.

I have never seen this happen before, and can't imagine why Jaws will not
speak this character.

Does anyone have suggestions for correcting this?

Just for the record, I'm using Jaws 11 with Windows XP and office 2007 at
work.

Thanks!

Dragging and Dropping using JAWS

Rick Miller

When you use the JAWS keystroke to drag and drop (Insert+control+num pad slash), is JAWS supposed to speak and tell you the button is pressed? Do you do the dragging using the arrow keys? Do you hold all three keys down at once, or just use one quick stroke?

Re: JAWS 13 and Captcha

if you want to solve most capchas independently, the best way is still the Webvisum add-on for Firefox. Yes it works with Firefox 6.

Tom,

No, don't depend on it. Listed to the podcast and you'll understand why even
Eric Damrey is skeptical on how well it might work. Even humans have trouble
reading the characters, so OCR will most likely fail.

After all, the whole point of captcha is to defeat on-screen OCR.

Subject: JAWS 13 and Captcha

Hi,
Just heard about JAWS 13 and its OCR feature. Can that be used to solve
captchas? Just curious. Looking forward to checking out 13 but I don't
know if I want to mess around with the beta just yet.

Tom

Re: Enhancements in JAWS 13

Dave...

Chris,

I'm just being a brat, that's all. It drives me crazy to hear the mindless
repetition as I go through the list, and I'm just being snarkey that they
can't be more creative, or simply say:

The following items in Excel were resolved:
one
two
three
etc.

Now wouldn't that be a lot easier for them to do, as well?

I'm tired now and am going to sleep, don't wake me up again.

Resolved and Addressed mean the same thing in this context. I'm
surprised you're wondering this, Dave.
