Re: QCast?
David Griffith
First of all in relation to a guide to using Speak On with Podcasts here is the Podcast I finished only about 2 hours ago. I think it is OK.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/88efq4jhsumskij/09Speak%20On%20and%20%20Podcasts.mp3?dl=1 Which hopefully will take you through the many different ways of accessing Podcasts with Speak ON.
In relation to the User Access control – provided the window is in focus – alt Y should work or tabbing to the yes button and pressing enter. I am not sure why this is not working for you. It has always worked for me in the past.
The only other option is to reduce your notification levels in User Account to 0%. I can provide some instructions on this if required.
If Jaws speaking is disturbing you then you can amend Jaws settings for Speak On but for the moment

I’ve downloaded it on to my laptop. I just can’t figure out how to add podcasts to it. There is probably a help section somewhere however, with JAWS speaking I can’t figure out how to access the help menu. The prompt comes up right away and if I turn off JAWS, I can’t start the program of media suite because you have to allow the computer to get it to work, with no screen reader, you can’t allow the program to load. Even clicking alt Y, does not seem to work. Perhaps David could offer some assistance in this matter?

For those who want a great audio book about how to use the most commonly used features of Zoom both as an attendee and as a meeting organizer, please see Jonathan Mosen's webpage for same: Free audiobook, “Meet Me Accessibly – A Guide to Zoom Cloud Meetings from a Blindness Perspective”
Review his overview about the book contents there and download a free copy. Not to sound too stupid, however, does the other person you are calling need an ID # to answer or does it in fact act like making a face time call? I’ve only used Zoom to join meetings and when someone was helping me with setting up zoom yesterday I had to type in an ID # to talk to him. Sounds complicated I know. I talked to him on my landline first and then he kept the landline opened and called me via zoom. However, I needed to keep Zoom opened as well, then had to punch in the ID #. Thus if I had not been talking to him on the phone, I would had not known he was calling via Zoom as there was no alert.

Re: jaws 2020 free authorzation help
Ron Pelletier
Hi Jerry,
JAWS 2020 is not trying to use your old licence. It is just telling you that you don’t have a licence at all and that’s OK.
Once you have registered, you have to go back into your account you created using your user name and password you created and download and install the licence. When you click on the licence to download it, it will ask you to select if you want to run it or save it. You can go ahead and run it and it will download and install all by itself and you will be good to go.

I register on the license portal and am trying to get the free license but can't seem to get the authorization to put in jaws 2020. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong and how I can get this issue fixed.

Re: jaws 2020 free authorzation help
Rob is correct. After selecting which of the three products, JAWS, Fusion, or ZoomText, that you wish to obtain, a file with whatever name you filled out in the form with some additional characters, with an EXE extension, will download. Mine was named BrianVogelJAWSLicenseActivator.exe
I imagine you'd substitute Fusion or ZoomText for JAWS in the file name if one of those products was chosen. I had uninstalled JAWS 2019 from my system before running this installer, and it took care of everything, including installing JAWS 2020. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Tolerance is the positive and cordial effort to understand another's beliefs, practices, and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them. ~ Joshua Liebman

Hi,

On the portal, after registering, You need to choose the product you wish to download, such as Jaws or Fusion. It will download the activation file to your computer. So look in your downloads folder for the setup file. Its something like your name Jaws authorization.exe. Run this file to install the license and it will install Jaws. I am not on my PC at the moment, so am writing this message from memory. I hope it helps. Rob

Re: Need help with Blackboard
Anna Givens
Here are some very useful links that your friend can use. The first one is the link to sign up for an email list for blind high school and college students but anyone can sign up for it on there you can ask questions and get answers from thousands of students who use blackboard and other things like that they should be very helpful in asking about blackboard or asking specific questions. The second link is a link to their Facebook group where you can also ask questions and get information about blackboard or anything else. The third one is a Facebook group for university students parents and teachers who are blind and another good resource and place to ask questions about accessibility and school related things. Hope some of this helps. If not feel free to have your friend reach out to me via email and I will connect them with someone who uses blackboard with Jaws. Anna

Re: Need help with Blackboard
I can't speak to Blackboard from an overall ease of accessibility perspective, but I have had to train a couple of my previous clients who were graduate students to navigate it. All were successful using a modern browser, which means not Internet Explorer. Obviously, there are parts of Blackboard, or any complex system, that I never needed to get into with either client.
If memory serves one was using Firefox and the other Chrome. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Tolerance is the positive and cordial effort to understand another's beliefs, practices, and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them. ~ Joshua Liebman

Hello,

IE does not work with blackboard, even if you can see. I primarily use IE and got a sighted friend to check to see what was going wrong, and apparently some of the buttons don't even display on the screen. Why blackboard doesn't tell you this when you log in is beyond me, but if you look at the layout of their website you can probably realise that common sense is not their strongest suit. - James
