Re: Need to extend jFW functionality by scripts, how to do it efficiently

it is not recommended to append your scripts to the default scripts anymore. instead, write them in the my extensions.jss file (actually, the file name does not have a space between my and extensions.).

the following are two responses about this by Mike B: When I add a script to My Extensions I do it manually because other info regarding the script needs to be added as well, then I put the whole file into the default and compile. I can't explain this very well, but I'll send this message to someone that can. In the meantime there's a download link below for 2 tutorials regarding the My Extensions & scripts. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vawsaear5lvks02/My%20Extensions%20Tutorials%2C%202%20Parts.zip?dl=1 Here's a little better explanation. When I want to add or modify a script I do the following. 1. Open the Jaws Manager, with, Insert + F2, & open the Scripts Manager. 2. With the Script Manager open press, Alt + F, for the file menu & press the letter, E, to open the Shared File folder, shift + tab into the list of shared folders, & navigate to the, My Extensions JSS file. 3. Open the My Extensions JSS file, press, Control + A to select all the contents, then paste the contents of the clipboard into Notepad. In Notepad is where I do all my editing and when I get all my editing done, I copy all the content of the Notepad text to the clipboard, then I use the steps from #2 above to go back to the My Extensions.JSS file, open it and delete the contents, Paste my edited text, and now compile. This way my default JKM file stays in tact and now the same keystroke opens the menu list without screwing with the default JKM file that's already in place.

I also suggest as Brian alluded to, call Freedom or whatever they are called these days and report it. Why? Because your allotment of licenses could have run out. Phone Freedom and they will fix the problem. I am probably uses the wrong term here. However, I’ve had a few computers that have crashed and have been unrepairable, it was cheaper to get a new computer in the long run. Telling Freedom about this they just reset the # of computers that could use JAWS. The same with Open book.

Have you contacted Freedom Scientific Support about this? If not, you should as your first order of business. It's unlikely you're the only user who has had this quirk occur and very often you'll be walked through the solution in minutes. If not, at least Freedom Scientific now has the issue recorded.

Hi again, Annabelle. This happens because, when you install new hardware on your machine, it becomes a completely different machine as far as JAWS is concerned. If they did not do this, anyone could install JAWS on any machine, and run it in registered mode without paying for it.

And how did you fix it? Basically what seems to happen is, my activation license for JAWS always seems to get lost and makes it run in demo mode. Even more confusing is the fact that the serial number tends to default to 801 when this happens, and the locking code changes as well. It mostly happens whenever I install new hardware on my machine. I wish I didn't have to reset my activation keys and reactivate JAWS when I install new or existing hardware drivers.

yes the keystroke you want is put into the Default JKM

If I put it directly in Outlook script file, it does. Other scripts in MyExtensions work, but some don’t. I’ve made sure the keystroke isn’t being used elsewhere, but still no go. Any ideas?

Re: JAWS bug: wrong tip for one option in settings Center
Mike B
Here's what the dialogue should read:
This check box allows you to enable or disable automatic
language detection. If you select this check box, JAWS detects changes in
languages within documents which support language tags and then reads using the
appropriate synthesizer voice for that language.
For example, if JAWS finds Spanish text on a Web page, that text is spoken using a Spanish voice. This detection only affects those synthesizers, such as Eloquence or Vocalizer Expressive, that support multiple languages. If you clear this check box, JAWS does not change the voice of the synthesizer when reading text written in another language. By default, this option is checked in all applications except Microsoft Outlook. Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go dodgers! New Mailing List to Discuss the Zoom Platform
David Goldfield <david.goldfield@...>
Hello. So many of us are spending more time in our homes. Some of us may be working from home while others, though they may not currently be employed,
are using their technology even more. So many individuals and organizations are hosting conferences using the Zoom Cloud Meetings platform. Many people are receiving invitations to these conferences and are finding themselves using Zoom for the first time. While Zoom is very accessible with screen readers there's still a lot to learn and many of us have questions that we would like answers to. To that end I have created a mailing list for people to ask questions and to provide support on how to use the Zoom program. I currently have just two rules that I'd like all users to follow. 1. All messages should be relevant to Zoom. This can include Zoom on Windows, Mac, iOS or Android. 2. No harassment or rudeness of any kind will be tolerated. To join the group, send an email to zoom-users+subscribe@groups.io To send a message to the group the email address to use is zoom-users@groups.io Happy Zooming! -- David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.davidgoldfield.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C2f07efc9dd3647b2b6c608d7d46a7583%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637211426003486676&sdata=zBVRGd5R8%2FBpUW7AhBJv4x7TkOtSf4m%2BOfWmJv7VOnM%3D&reserved=0
