As Dean pointed out, it is primarily useful in connection with the mouseover keystroke. If, for example, I log into my credit card processor’s portal I have items like “Administration”, “Terminal”, “Reports” etc. These items are mouseover links which means that if a sighted person hovers over, for example, “Terminal” then they see a new menu pop up further down on the screen with things like “Purchase”, “Refund”, “Void” etc. If I press enter on any of them nothing at all happens, but if I use the Jaws Key + Control + Enter keystroke to activate the mouseover link, Jaws will say “change at line 9” I then immediately press “J” and follow this by 9 and enter, Jaws will go to line 9 and now if I down arrow I can see and access all the options which have appeared there. I find many websites use such mouseover links and in some cases they are properly labelled and Jaws will announce them as mouseoever, in other cases it may just say “link” or possibly nothing at all to identify what it is, but if I press enter on something and nothing apparently happens I always try the mouseoever link keyboard shortcut.

Native Mail app selected or unselected before everything else?
Gerardo Corripio <gera1027@...>
Is there a way that I could set up the native Windows10 Mail app, for it to say selected or unselected before reading the subject and sender of the Email? I thought I was browsing around the other day, within the Jaws Settings, something that said “say state of item”, thus I wonder if would that do the trick I’m wanting to accomplish? And where exactly is this option to set it up via the Mail Jaws section of the settings?

Re: use of Jump to Line feature in web pages
Dean Martineau <topdot@...>
The big reason that was instituted is to support the OnMouseOver keystroke, ctrl+shift+enter. When you use that keystroke on an OnMouseOver element, if JAWS detects a change, it will say, “Change at line xx.” So you use J and type that line number to see if the change is of any benefit.
I hadn’t thought of using that feature as a sort of place marker replacement. I don’t know how many line numbers I could retain at my age!

Hi. Using jaws 2020 , nvda 2019.3 windows 10 64 bit pro. On a assus laptop. Doing a network course from http://www.upskilled.edu.au. Got a free dedicated server for assignments from http://www.heropa.com. But only for assignments and assessments. As their web tool is totally unuser friendly and not accessible. Looking to rebuild. So looking for a free vm. Did sign up for the vmware workstation education, but was rejected my application. Not sure. And also listening to videos from http://www.pluralsight.com and from http://www.linedinlearning.com. Vm ware player, asks for me to turn off credential guard manager and security settings, if people are familiar with that. Now, tried that and when trying to install windows server 2016 iso, could not turn that feature off. In vritual box, no way to turn the audio on, and it kept either crashing or powering off. Hyper v manager the same. So can any one doing a networking course, let me know. And Microsoft azure, trying to set up a free student account, would not recognize my landline voip phone. Don’t have a mobile phone, credit card, paypal. And now, any one got any good recommendations for a free, accessible vm, that will work with jaws, nvda, windows narrator. And able to then install such server os as windows server 2008 r2, 2012, 2016, docker, etc. Any ideas or help. Want to get my hands dirty and learn how to install, configure and use networking. Any one got any ideas or in the same boat. My college does not have a dedicated online server. Doing this online and with about 11 other sighted students. Any ideas. Help. Thanks.

Re: Firefox Is Not Responding
Pramit
Hi Annabelle, Firefox and some plugins use your graphics card to help speed up the display of web content. Graphic cards are also used by advanced web features like WebGL. To fix problems with these features or to take advantage of them, you may need to update your graphics card drivers. Unfortunately, due to the wide range of possible driver, video card and operating system combinations, hardware acceleration or 3D web graphics (WebGL) may still not work for you in Firefox. In these instances you fix the problems by disabling hardware acceleration and WebGL. Hope this helps Pramit

Weird, but try hitting alt to bring up the menus and then hitting it again to make them go away, that seems to let jaws start working with the content.
Loook in the options for a setting about page turn animations, make sure it is off. When on, jaws commands don't work, when off they do.
