basic questions again

Richard Holloway

I'm back with a dirt simple question here again, and this must be documented somewhere I realize. I have looked through what I have though, and I see no answer. From a braille keyboard with JAWS 11, how do you enter things like control keys?

Richt now, my daughter is fumbling about on her qwerty keyboard for that and the going back to the Focus display. That seems pretty impractical. There must be a list of braille keystrokes for the likes of CTRL, Function, etc., somewhere. Any suggestions to find a list would be much appreciated, but for the moment, just the control key would be a dandy start.

I'm guessing some of the extra keys may have that use, or be programmable for it, and that there is probably also some sort of key-chord or two-stage entry for this as well?

Thanks

Maybe search Microsoft's site for that particular error/problem.

Well in internet explorer open the tools menu, then open internet options
and control + tab to advanced.

Arrow to the browsing tree and in there you can turn off about being
notified about every script error.

Increasingly, I am finding that many of the websites that I use do not respond to Internet Explorer. On many of them, it will say that Microsoft has encountered a problem which causes Internet Explorer to not respond to the website. Is there any way I can solve this problem. Also, I could not find the download to Firefox 4 so I upgraded to Firefox 5. Many Internet websites use Windows Media player. How can I increase or decrease the volume with Windows media player when using Firefox?

Re: Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit

Steve <k8sp@...>

That's because Jaws 9 wasn't out in a 64-bit version.

Jaws and Win-eyes are too tightly embedded with the operating system, so those are the main exceptions; you need the Jaws 64-bit version to run on a 64-bit machine. The first 64-bit version of Jaws was 10, and the first 64-bit version of Win Eyes was 7.1.

Well, JAWS 9 comes to mind (which absolutely destroyed the OS on our Vista PC when we bought a 64-bit machine), at least under Vista, as well as most (if not all) virus protection software.

It can be really hit, or miss... (buyer beware).

I don't know of any 32-bit programs that won't run on a 64-bit system, although I suppose there may be some. But, that is what the Programs\x86 folder is for, that's where the 32-bit programs that run in Win 7 or Vista 64-bit editions live.

Jaws is available in either 32 or 64-bit editions. If you have the Jaws installation DVD, it will recognize which version you need for your system; if not, just go to the FS site and download the correct version.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

32 vs. 64 bit has to do with the way the computer physically addresses the data; literally 32 or 64 pieces of information at a time (specifically that many ones or zeros at a time-- that's what a "bit" is, a one or a zero in binary computing. Multiple bits comprise a byte. Enough bytes make a "k", then megs, gigs, etc.)

You must run the correct bit OS on the appropriate processor. Applications vary. You can run some 32 bit applications on some 64 bit machines which I assume requires some sort of emulation mode by the OS which may be transparent to the user. 64 bit applications won't work for 32 bit.

JAWS 9 was 32 bit only. At the time that was out, Freedom told me they had no intention of supporting 64 bit machines in the future. Once most new machines started going 32 bit, they changed their tune a bit. (Pun intended.)

I assume current JAWS has a dual installer that works on both? I know both are currently supported one way or another.

What do you mean?

Once the page images have been processed by an OCR engine, either in Openbook, K1000, or many many third-party programs intended for the regular software market, you get text. Save it in whatever format you want, rtf, txt, doc, and read it in your program of choice with Jaws. There's nothing mysterious about the process.

I guess I am not sure what you are asking. If you scan a book using OpenBook you can read it with JAWS.

Re: [Bulk] selecting objects

Dave...

Try selecting by shift and arrow back (left arrow). Usually I've found that
I'm positioned just after the object, not before the object.

try to remedy that situation.

Subject: [Bulk] selecting objects

Hi lister,

I am using word 2003 and i was trying to select objects to group it. I list
the objects using the keystroke ctrl+shift+o. But when i try to select the
objects using the shift key and arrow down the objects could not be
selected. How should i select the objects. Is there another way of
selecting.

Thanks

Kee Seng
