Re: translation program

ok here is the announcement Email with a live and working (I tested it just before I sent this) link Hi, I have made a few updates to MaestroTranslate, that tools that can be used for translating text with Google. 1. The program is now multi-threaded, so the interface can be used while the program is translating a long document. It doesn't freeze anymore. 2. The program displays a progress bar that shows the percentage of the translated text, which is helpful when translating long documents. 3. The translated text is displayed in the destination text field continuously, and it can be read while the program translates the rest of the document. 4. The program has a "Stop" button that can be used for stopping the translation of the current text, which might be utile sometimes for long documents. 5. Zlatko Sobocan created improved JAWS scripts for MaestroTranslate, and now the installation and configuration of these scripts can be done much easier. At the installation time (or later), the program ask you to choose the hotkey you want to use for translation and the hotkey for configuration. The hotkey for translation is the one you can use to translate the word at the cursor or the selected text, and the hotkey for configuration is the one you could use to choose the source and destination languages and other options (and it will appear a wizard that will let you make the choice). These scripts are installed automatically when you install MaestroTranslate, and you can uninstall them without uninstalling the program. They are uninstalled when you will uninstall the program. The interface of these scripts is also localized. You can change its locale by changing the current language of the MaestroTranslate's interface (and then press Control+JawsKey+Escape to re-initialize the scripts). The localization may change the language of the spoken messages, the names of the languages and possibly their order (in the lists displayed in that configuration wizard). 6. I have solved a few bugs that were making the translation of long documents very hard. I have also solved a bug that prevented the translation using the JAWS scripts on the first or even second trial right after the computer has been restarted. I have also solved a bug that prevented translating the current word pointed with the JAWS cursor. I have added a few details for installation in the readme file and much more things in the help files of the program. You can download it from: http://www.tranzactiibursiere.ro/maestro/translate/ Octavian so there you go its a desktop application that uses google translation and I have found it to work well so far, elf . Re: Jaws 12 question - Jaws unresponsive to keystrokes while infolder and link lists
Murray Peat <murraytp@...>
Hi, I use high contrast settings as I still have some useful vision so I am between relying on Jaws but not quite ready to give up on using my vision. That aside I too though thought perhaps high contrast was an issue so reverted to windows classic settings with no improvement.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I have generally found Jaws better at the high contrast support with more modern versions of Jaws. I really think the issue Jaws has here is related to the interruption of the Jaws dialogue rather than any colour setting. Still waiting for a response from FS. Regards Murray

Adobe Digital Editions 1.8 Preview
Gary King
In spite of the many problems we have with our sometimes not so favorite screen reader, it can still be good to be a JAWS user. I ran across a message on the GW Micro Info list complaining that only JAWS users could read protected Epub books with the new Adobe Digital Editions 1.8 Preview. Apparently, Window-Eyes doesn't have the needed support for the program, and JAWS for Windows 12 does.
I immediately went to http://blogs.adobe.com/accessibility/2011/07/books-for-everyone-an-accessible-digital-editions-for-windows-and-mac.html?PID=4166869 to read all about it. (If this long link wraps, just copy it into your browser.) The blog entry gives you some information about the program, and the comments from those who have tried it are also helpful. There are also links to the download page. If you decide to try the program, be sure to read through the included book for instructions on how to use it with JAWS. You can then go out and find some Epub books either from Overdrive or from commercial bookstores. You will need to create an Adobe ID on the Adobe web site if you don't have one. This will allow you to authorize the program on more than one computer if you plan to read your books in other locations. I am currently reading an Epub book from Overdrive, and it is reading very well. There doesn't seem to be any way to read continuously; so, we will just have to read the books a page at a time like the sighted folks do. I will say that reading an Epub book with this program is much more pleasant than reading one on my iPod Touch with the Overdrive Ap, as I did a couple of months ago. Mitch, it's as different from XP as XP was from say, Windows 98. So, it's a lot like what you're used to.
I suggest you join the blindwindows7 group at Yahoo Groups and ask questions there. Just send a blank message to blindwindows7-subscribe@yahoogroups.com Chris

Robert Logue <bobcat11@...>
. Is anyone using Windows media player 12 in Windows 7 with jaws?
I am having all kinds of issues. Some of them are related to jaws. First of all, there is no jaws script for Windows media player 12 only Windows media player 11. I found out that pressing control alt l sometimes brings focus to the now playing list but sometimes it won't, even when it actually is on the screen. Next, if you use that keystroke the Windows media player volume controls stop Working temporarily. I need to switch focus to another application then back to get the function keys F8 and F9 working again. The tab order is very confusing. shift tab seems to go in a different order than tabbing through the controls in either the now playing or library view windows. There are other issues, but I don't think they are related to jaws. I'll mention them anyway in case somebody who is struggling with jaws and Windows media player 12 has also noticed these issues and would write to me off list. Opening some artists folders causes the player to stop working. No troubleshooting solutions work. I run the Windows 7 troubleshooters and the Windows fix it troubleshooters and I've had no success. I've closed all my libraries, reregistered things and still have problems. I may just give up on Windows media player 12 altogether. One reason I still use it is because I love SRS wow surround sound. I know there is a plug-in that will let SRS work for other media players, but it is totally inaccessible with jaws. Another reason is all playlists. I've created in the past are in Windows media player format and I don't think I can even export them to Winamp. I was quite accustomed to using Windows media player 10 and its playlist editor with jaws. It could be tricky but I managed it. Now it just seems like Windows media player 12 is completely blind hostile. They still don't show the title of the track you're playing anywhere in the Window jaws can see. Tab order is confusing. Pressing enter on an item in the list puts the player in full screen mode so you have to right-click on the item. If you can get focus on it before you can play it. There's no way to directly focus the seek bar and it seems to move around in the tab order. Again, I don't know how much this has to do with jaws or just the nature of Microsoft products. Bob

I recently upgraded from Jaws 11 pro to Jaws 12 pro. I am operating on xp professional and use high contrast settings. One of the first things I noticed with Jaws 12 is that when I am in a folder list in say outlook Jaws continues with its narrative even when I press the letter of the folder I wish to go to such as J for junk email. This happens on all applications and is of particular annoyance when I use f7 on the net to bring up the links list. When I hit a key to find a certain link Jaws still continues to read the link it is on and shows no haste in updating to the new link. I can get around this by using the control key to silence Jaws then I can hit the first letter of the link or folder I want and this does the trick however it is an extreme annoyance and slows things down for me. Does anyone know of a fix for this or is this just a new feature on Jaws 12 and I am stuck with it. I have all the latest Jaws 12 updates on my system so as far as I know there is no outstanding update available to help. I sent a request to Freedom Scientific however have not heard back thus far. JAWS 12 and the transition from XP Home to Windows 7

Greetings: The day may come when I need to make the switch from my current XP Home to a Windows 7 machine.
A Geezer and set in my ways, will this be a smooth transition or are there new formats, layouts and the like one must learn? Thanks for any feedback from those of you who have made the jump. Best Wishes, Mitch "There comes a time in every Man's life and I've had plenty of 'em." Casey Stengel
