Blind tunes Need Portuguese and German translators

John Martyn

Hi all, sorry to bother,
I had someone that was doing the portuguese and german
translations but they seem to have dropped off the radar.
Is there any takers for translating the message files for Blind Tunes?
You don't need to be an expert in scripting and I do provide instructions.
Thank you all so much. The language pack should include about 9 other languages. And Blind Tunes is seeing record activity on the site from all around the world.
You could earn your place in the special thanks section too!
So far in process and done are:
Dutch, English of course, Finnish, French, Hebrew, Italian, Swedish, and Spanish.
But I need German and Portuguese.
You can email me at Support@blindTunes.net
Thanks for your attention!

Re: Jaws 11 Strange behavior !!

Check if Microsoft Security Essentials is actually deleting the virus
or not. If it cannot remove the virus, it will continuesly scan your
computer. Which will significantly slow down the Jaws performance.

Re: Checkmark / Square Root symbol

Zaheer Sheikh <cybergeek2020@...>

Hey Mike,

I use alt+251 to insert the Square Root symbol. As you already
mentioned, jaws will read it as letter "v". You can add the Square
Root symbol in the default dictionary manager, and then jaws will read
it correctly.

This is how I did it:

1. Open notepad.
2. Press ALT+251, this will insert the Square Root symbol.
3. Note that Jaws will read the Square Root symbol as letter "V".
4. Select and copy the symbol without any spaces.
5. Open the Jaws default dictionary manager from the Jaws utilities submenu.
6. Select the Add button to add new entry in the Dictionary.
6. Paste the symbol in the "Actual word" edit box.
7. Type "Square Root" in the "Replacement word" edit box.
8. Tab to OK.

Hope this helps,

Zaheer Sheikh

3. I may be reading this wrong, but an ASCII table I just looked at

Insert + 4 on the number row. Thank you very much for your reply. Take

Mike,

You know about the Insert+4 symbols list, I'm sure. However it does not
have
these in the list. I'd sure like to find out how to add symbols to this
list.

Other than that, you'll need to find out the ASCII character code or
graphical code equivalent to these and use the numpad to enter them. Hold
down Alt and type the numbers from the numpad to insert special
characters.

Re: JAWS 13 Public Beta 2 Released

Peter Holdstock <ptrholdstock@...>

If it only takes us as users a couple of minuts to label the graphics for Windows Live Mail to say if a message is unread, a conversation is collapsed etc then surely it would take even less time for FS and they only have to do it once for it to be available for all users so why the hell they don't do it I don't know. I have reported it several times with no joy but I'll do it again on the beta report form.

* Addressed a reported issue reading lists that contain links.
* Resolved an issue regarding the JavaScript function, SetTimeout,
reported by a developer.

Mozilla Thunderbird

* JAWS no longer says "selected" when selecting text in a message
and the verbosity level is set to Advanced.
* JAWS now reads all of the controls in the Account Settings
dialog box.

Winamp

* Resolved an issue where keystrokes that include both the ALT and
CTRL keys were not working as expected.

Windows 7

* Resolved an issue in Windows 7 or Vista, if JAWS was getting
license keys from a license server on the network and was set to run on
the secure desktop, it would not release the ILM key after you logged
in. This could cause JAWS to tie up two keys at a single work station.
* Braille display controls, such as panning buttons and cursor
routers, will now work in the UAK dialog box.

Windows Live Mail

* Improved JAWS support for the Windows Live Mail calendar.
Appointments are now announced as you navigate in the Day, Week, and
Month views.

Re: installing jaws

Frank Ventura

What you are describing is what is called a network license. That is
different from an individual license and a site license. A network
license has a centralized license server on the network that hands out
tokens as needed. The licenses are not installed on the local PCs. It is
licensed by the number of seats that are needed.

Kimsan,
You said that your school district installed JAWS on your desktop at
work.
Will they install it on your personal laptop as well? If they have a
site license, do they have a license with a sufficient number of users
to allow them to do so? The site license we had at work when I left was
not an ILM type of authorization. It obtained its token for
authorization from our local network, which meant that we had to be
connected to the network to use JAWS. If this is the type of
authorization your school has, you may be out of luck, since you would
not be connected to the server with the tokens when you were away from
school.

If they can put JAWS on your laptop with an ILM authorization, you will
need to remove your ILM activation first and then have the school
district technician activate your existing JAWS version with theirs.
Then, provided they are eligible for JAWS 13, you can get the upgrade.

Kimsan,

Does the district own a separate JAWS license from yours? If so, then
keep
them separate. Otherwise, you are allowed installation of a single
JAWS
license on three computers (or three separate attempts to install).

Hi,

I hesitated to post this question because some people here turn
questions
into a drama fest but here goes.

I use my personal laptop here at work, the district always upgrades to
the
latest versions of softwares etc when it is time. Jaws 13 is coming
out
soon, so is it possible to install a district copy of jaws onto my
personal
laptop? Will I have to remove the jaws versions I have before doing
so?
This
is assuming I can though. I ask that part because of the licencing
aspect.
I
hope to blue skies that made sense.

Re: installing jaws

Frank Ventura

Jumping in here a little late but the answer is probably no. You will
have to find out what kind of license your district has but I suspect it
is an individual or site license. If it is an individual license it is
intended to be used by only one person. However that one person can
install it on more than one computer assuming they only use one computer
at a time. For example if you have an individual license and have a
laptop and a desktop you can install it on both computers but only use
it on one at a time and never by another person. A site license, on the
other hand, is a license based on computers. For example you can have a
20 computer site license which will allow you to install JFW on 20
different computers that are located at the same location, owned by the
same organization. The actual number of different people who use those
20 machines is not relevant. The use of laptop computers confuses site
licensing a bit since site licensing, as the name implies, only usually
applies to a physical location and may require the laptop to remain on
premise unless a specific allocation is made in the license for off site
use. When it comes to JFW there are at least two other types of
licenses, network and dongle. However by your description neither is
applicable.
To be perfectly honest some of the worst violators of license terms are
quite often schools and not for profit organizations. Often they will
buy an individual license and think because it comes with several
installs they can install if for several different people. I don't have
much sympathy for any claimed ignorance here. If a TVI has enough brains
to get a whole alphabet soup full of letters after their name then they
can understand that an individual license isn't for five or even ten
people.
Frank

Re: Jaws 11 Strange behavior !!

Adrian Spratt

It's hard to follow your explanation of the problem, but it sounds as though
it began when you installed the new antivirus program. I had a similar
experience with a malware program that works fine for other JAWS users.
The antivirus program you had originally, Microsoft's, has been highly
recommended on this list, including by our own Gerald. You might want to
speak to your consultant and either return to that software or try another.

I'm not convinced that uninstalling and reinstalling JAWS will help.
However, if you go that route, the way to uninstall isn't from the control
panel. Instead, go to your programs menu, then to the JAWS version you're
using and press enter. One option will be uninstall. Then commence
installation again either with the disc or the file you may have downloaded
from the Net.

Again, I hesitate to give such advice because you may have made adjustments
to JAWS that you will lose when you uninstall.

Re: Jaws activate Jaws 7

Dave...

O, you should already know how to set JAWS to start automatically. How does your computer start and how do you start JAWS?

Hello Dave and all,
Here is the update on my friend computer ,when she was getting ready to take
the computer tower back to the shop ,her sighter person is a nurse ,her
nurse turn off the computer and turn it back on to see what happen when she
see on the screen ,the nurse noticed on the screen saying jaws is lock and
need to activated it ,so the nurse went to jaws window to get the serial
number then type in the activation box and it's unlock jaws and activate
jaws back on !! So my friend don't have to take the computer tower back to
the shop again ,since her nurse solved the problem . I asked my friend did
her nurse check the box for jaws to automatic activate on and she told me
she doesn't think so !! Does my friend need to do anything to check any
boxes in jaws window ?

As far as I know, it only works with English versions of Windows.
