Re: Hidden Jaws

Hello another thing to try is;

Unload your jaws,

Now, type windows-key+r=run,

And type in;

Jaws12 /default

Now press enter.

You should now have access to your desktop icons.

So, perhaps you will need a jaws repair.

Good morning list:

Some how I messed up my Jaws 12 on my laptop running Windows 7. I am no
longer able to read the Icons on my desk top; I hear "hidden jaws". I have
tried to do a repair on Jaws 12, but have not been able to find the repair
option. Can anyone help me get Jaws reading properly again?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Hidden Jaws

David <davidwhitehead1957@...>

First, perhaps you could tell us what you were doing to cause this behavior,

Also, if you want to do a jaws repair, you need to download the jaws
excecutable, and run it.
You then will receive the option to repair.

Hi All,

As some may have heard, I am working on a new project and already well into
it. It looks very promising. As to hinting what it is, I cannot announce it
yet and blow it. I'm working with the NFB and the company on making this
available.

Just to let you know, it is a monsterous program and I found a way to make
it work.

Sorry to keep you all guessing, but I will let you know when it is ready to
announce.

BlindTunes 1.1.7 Fixed focus issues and store pages

John Martyn

Hi all,
I spent all day on this but I think it is pretty solid especially loading
pages in the iTunes store. The focus issues are gone for sure.
I think this is the best that the iTunes store has ever worked, at least for
me in terms of time loading. I hope it serves you well. I got the pages to
stop locking your systems up so that is great news. It should load and give
you the ready along with iTunes store at the end of loading pages.
Have fun and enjoy those tunes!

Dave...

Au contraire, Monsieur Chris...

It can read a page of a document, so that certainly qualifies it to be
reading a document. Perhaps it's better to make sure you qualify what you
mean. I suspect you are saying that it does not readily replace an OCR like
Openbook or Kurzweil?

JFW 13 does have a limited OCR feature, useful for reading unlabeled or
graphical controls. It is not useful for reading documents.

If so that is a darn rush for a beta product. Just my thoughts. JFW has always been like that though. Three betas and it's out the door. FS should release as many betas as necessary, then perhaps a release candidate then the final release.

JFW 13 does have a limited OCR feature, useful for reading unlabeled or
graphical controls. It is not useful for reading documents.

I'm totally serious, at least that's what the JAWS site says. It works
with
graphical text and they used a setup file to demonstrate it. I'm trying
to
find out more, but there isn't much info about it now. Guess I'll find
out
next week.

Hi,
Are you pulling my leg?JAWS 13 will have OCR function? Really? How
extensive will this functionality be, and what's to become of Open
Book,
then?

I like the OCR functions Jaws will have. I wonder if that portion is
scriptable. That would be so awesome.

Hi all,
I will be among the beta testers out there. Is anyone else going to
try
out the beta that comes out next week? I have to since I write
scripts.
Does anyone have a list of changes they are making with JAWS 13?
Thanks in advanced,

This information is available throough FS webinars which are free in most
cases to all JAWS users.
Additionally training tutorials are available through the JAWS Hhelp menu

Thanks to everyone for the hints and reminders. I have not used the Settings
Center before, but should have remembered about the control shift d for
default changes in all applications.

It is nice to have helpful people to ask while trying to adjust to all of
the changes and learn my way around 12.

Joni, when you tried making the change with insert-F2, I'm guessing you
skipped one step, and possibly two. To make a change apply across all
applications, you need to press control-shift-d after entering the
configuration manager but before choosing the setting. After you make your
selection, or selections, press control-s to save, then exit.

This is FYI. Dave is right to steer you to FS's new settings center for
handling settings.

Dave, that worked! Thanks so much. The inconsistency was driving me crazy.

So is the insert F2 route just temporary, or does it not work that reliably?

When I install 13, will I have to make all of these adjustments again?

Joni,

Try changing this in the Settings Center, instead. Insert+NumberRow 6

JAWS13 now allows you to set some of these more permanently in the new
"improved" JAWS Options dialog.

Subject: Adjust JAWS options

With JAWS 12 I have been trying to adjust JAWS options with mixed results.
When I open that option in various programs sometimes the things I change
stick and sometimes they do not.

I can place the key echo to none and it works, but when I reopen Word or
Outlook Express it is back to character echo.

I am accessing this with the insert F2 key combination. I make the changes
I want and then close the program. Should I be doing a save?

Even though I used help to read about the execute button I don't really
understand its purpose. Is there a difference between using the spacebar to
get the choices I want and using the execute button? I have been using the
spacebar and then alt c to close after making changes. I am making multiple
changes and then closing. Do the changes have to be made one at a time?
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Joni
