Hi, everyone!

I hope all are doing well and staying safe! I have a couple of questions.

1. How accessible are the apps that can be gotten from the Microsoft store?

2. If so, has anyone gotten any games from there? I ask this because I miss playing some of the games from both Windows XP and Vista. For instance, I would like to get the Pinball game that was on XP, and the game Purble Place from Vista. I’m also looking for any accessible Solitaire games.

Sincerely,

Jasmine

Good point. Assuming the word is in the dictionary, David will be asked to replace it after confirming the new replacement.

Hi David,

If you tell me exactly what it is you want to change, original word, and how you would like for Jaws to say it I'll give you exact steps.

David,

Mike wasn’t suggesting you speak German. When you tab to the field he indicated, he was saying you’ll recognize it by the first spoken line. On his system, it’s German. On mine, it’s French. On your system, it’s likely to be one language or another.

You can arrow down this list or, as Mario noted, use first-letter navigation. After you get past the languages, you’ll arrive at your list of dictionary entries.

I just tried using a period as a first letter to find your term, but it seems I have nothing in my list that begins with that particular punctuation. So, you’ll need to arrow down until you find it. My guess is that it’s near the beginning of the list after you get past the languages, or else it’s near the end. You can go right to the end by pressing the end key.

Hi Les,

I believe the lady you're assisting needs to install the Dropbox client on her computer. This will install the Dropbox folders containing all of her Dropbox data currently in the cloud provided she signs into it with the same Dropbox account. I would expect that if she executes a pdf file from its local computer location, Adobe Acrobat should open with that file based on how you set the default file program. You can download the Dropbox client here:

He recently died, and she does not know how to use Dropbox to change its behavior.  when she accesses a .pdf file, of which she has many, it downloads and opens in Edge. I downloaded Adobe Acrobat on to her machine and chose to use Adobe as the default when opening .pdf files, but they always open in Edge. Zoom definitely has some accessibility issues with the chat window.

They do know about it and were working on it, but I believe it is time again to remind them to check with regard to there status.

There are a few ways of achieving what you want.

The most important thing is to make sure you have the DropBox Desktop installed as this is not entirely clear from your email.

Depending on how much is in the Cloud and how large her hard disc is the easiest way may be to turn off Smart sync in settings and specify all the folders you want to have definitely available locally to to the lady you are helping.

Another approach is to allow smart sync to continue but to them simply go the the relevant folder and bring up the context menu and find the dropbox options - here you can specify the options for that folder - the options are local and online. This is very similar to the ONeDrive option to “always keep on device” option.

You of course need to set the folders or files to local to avoid the need to download them. It will take a few minutes to download and catchup.

I am not on a Windows machine at the moment so I cannot give stop by step but if you bring up the context menu in file explorer on your DropBox synched folders you should be able to find the options for local or offline.

Hi All,

I am assisting a lady with Dropbox. Her life partner set up all of her files in the cloud, but not on her machine. I’m guessing this is because they are always downloading from the cloud. I wish to have her files stored on her machine. As I use OneDrive, I’m not familiar with how to accomplish this task. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Best,

Les

Sharon, I absolutely agree with you.  However, based on the howls I have routinely received when suggesting that anyone who participates on Groups.io exclusively via e-mail log in to their Groups.io account to do something, I've literally given up.

There are lots of things that are far, far easier to accomplish via the Groups.io web interface regarding account preferences, including changing one's e-mail address.  But you have to be willing to login to Groups.io in the first place, and that also involves setting up a password for same.  For those interested in accessing their Groups.io accounts, if not reading messages, see the opening section of  Controlling the Messages You Receive via E-Mail from Groups.io (docx), which covers how to get yourself set up with a password and able to log in to Groups.io for whatever account maintenance you might wish to do, not just what follows in that document.

Hi, there is a much easier way. They need to log into the groups IO page and from there you can change the email address and it will be for all lists.

If they haven’t logged in before they probably don’t have a password however you can click the link saying forgot your password and they will receive a email with instructions. Of course this will only work if they still have access to the original email account.

Hope this helps.

Literally, unsubscribe from the current email he's using and resubscribe with the new one.  I can't tell you what the unsubscribe or subcribe addresses are, but he can send a message to the help address at each of those groups, or, more easily, just look at the post address and modify the part ahead of the at sign with +unsubscribe or +subscribe, respectively.

I am not on a Windows machine at the moment so I cannot give stop by step but if you bring up the context menu in file explorer on your DropBox synched folders you should be able to find the options for local or offline.

a minor note. when tabbing to the list of entries, instead of down arrowing thru a long list, first letter navigation can get you closer to the entry you need to correct. for example, the list starts with words that start with b, pressing t will get you to the first word that starts with t. in addition, typing to will not get you to words starting with to but will get you to words that start with o. so first letter navigation works in this list.

Hi David,
1. While in Inter net Explorer press, Insert + D, to open the IE Jaws
dictionary file.
2. Tab to the, Tree View, which the German language is at the top, and
navigate down this using 1st leter navigation until you have the word
highlighted.
3. Tab to, Change... button, and press the spacebar to open.
4. Tab to, Actual word, if you want to keep this actual word leave this
alone and tab 1 time to, Replacement word, and retype this replacement
to the way you want Jaws to say it.  If you want to remove the word from
the dictionary delete the, Actual word.
5. Tab to, Okay, and press the spacebar, press, Control + S, to save and
Alt + F4 to close the dictionary.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!

I posed this query to an X nun, well, she feels she is still a nun even though she was kicked out of the convent.  She suggested a website however, I think the suggestion below is the best.  Btw, the X nun is my step daughter. Who seemed to enjoy the looks she got when she was in her habit walking with me and my guide dog in stores like Costco.

New American Bible: The Leading Catholic Resource for Understanding Holy Scripture

by Harper Bibles
The New American Bible revised edition is more than a mere Bible translation. Authorized by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the New American Bible seeks to provide the best resource for understanding the church's sacred Scripture. To begin with, the translation beautifully and accurately conveys the word of God in English, using the most recent scholarly resources available and translating directly from the original languages. While the Bible plays a central role in the church's life, it is also important to remember that it is an ancient book written over several centuries. It carries a rich tradition of interpretation over even more centuries. That is why the many scholars and church teachers who worked years on this project did more than provide a clear and accessible translation; they also sought to provide additional help and guidance for those who truly want to understand what they are reading: Each book of the Bible begins with an introduction, providing the historical context of the work, its literary style, its main themes, its use in the history of the church, as well as an outline of the contents. As you read the Scriptures, notes have been provided at the bottom of the page offering explanations for particular passages, terms, and concepts. Since Scripture often refers to itself, a system of cross-references are provided so you can see where else historical figures, particular stories, or similar concepts are also treated in the Bible. At the end of the Bible, sixteen pages of color maps are provided to help orient the Bible's stories in their geographical context.
