Date

JAWS 13.0.718 Released

Dave...

Happy Days!

A lot of things fixed in this release. And I'm proud to toot my own horn and pleased to point out that Freedom Scientific *does* listen to customers. These three problems I reported in Excel at the inception of version 13 have been fixed:

. When Cell Verbosity in Quick Settings is set to Content Only, addressed a customer reported issue where JAWS was not announcing cell coordinates as expected
when selecting cells.
. Resolved issues with the Totals Row and Totals Column options in Quick Settings not working as expected.
. JAWS is now much more responsive after deleting rows or columns from a large spreadsheet. Previously, JAWS would take several seconds to respond after
deleting the data.

JFW 13 and Outlook 2010 issue

Cristóbal

Hello list,

I am tackling my new Win 7 machine with Outlook 2010 and have one of my
emails set up. I’m having one issue that I’m not sure what may be wrong or
if I’ve got some setting that needs adjusting.

When composing or replying to a message, the window seems to jump around on
me. If it’s a new email, I’ll be typing and after a few words, I’ll find
myself in either the start menu or desktop, same message window’s subject
field or main Outlook list view. I’m always having to alt tab back to the
message window or tab down from the subject field to get back to where I
want to type.

When replying to an email, I’m always being placed in the original email
text below. Again, this is after typing a few words.

I don’t’ know what I may or may not be doing and have to the best of my
knowledge checked and unchecked whatever necessary checkboxes in order for
JFW to better interact with Outlook. I thought I’d ask around here to see if
anyone else is experiencing this or if they had any ideas?

I’m writing this message on my old machine since the jumping around is
making it nearly impossible for me to compose a message on my new one.

Thanks,

Of course it will still do all the things iTunes did before. It just makes
it easier to navigate around. Check out the guides when you install it.
There is a lot of good info on what the scripts can do.

Yes, I have made it simple to keep updated with the latest scripts so no
more announcements need to be made. If you are out of date, it will
automatically initiate the download for you. If you are fine, there are no

I haven't made my purchasing decision yet, and have a question about Ultrabook keyboards. Some reviews indicate that certain keys are doubled up. E.g., the home, end, page up, and page down keys are doubled on to the arrow keys. Can Jaws handle this situation? Or do I need to look for keyboards with dedicated keys?

Ted,

Thanks for the info. We will try JAWS 13 in the next round of testing.

We are already using IE7:

IE7 is the default browser when Windows 7 is installed. IE8 installation
is blocked (by a utility that you can download from microsoft's web
site) as part of out standard setup/configuration at this time.

Some additional information has come to light about HTML and Word 2010
being implicated in the JAWS 11 and JAWS 12 problems in Outlook. I'll
try to remember to forward it later.

(Apparently Outlook 2010 uses Word 2010 to process HTML messages.)

Outlook 2007 was a pil for a long time--ever since it was installed in
our shop. Switching from JAWS 10 to 13 changed the problems, but did
not eliminate them. Then IT tried going to IE 7--hardly the latest and
greatest--and. . . problem solved! JAWS 13 runs like a top at both
home and work, and Internet apps that drove me to distraction are now
reliable. Had I only known. . . .

Re: Sorry, it should have been "installing Old versions of JAWS"

Gary King

In addition to what Adrian said below, even if you install the versions of JFW in order, the shared components from later versions can sometimes change the way that earlier versions work. I wouldn't go to the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling all of those versions of JFW on the chance that version 9 would work the way it did before.

This question has come up before, and the answer isn't simple. If I remember
correctly, the recommendation is that you uninstall your existing versions,
install the prior one, then reinstall the new versions. Presumably when
uninstalling, you'd need to agree to delete shared files. In that case,
among other things, you'd lose your settings. So yes, it has great potential
to be a hassle.

Nickus this comes up a lot.
If Acrobat reader has nothing to read in a particular pdf file, you will need to run it through OCR software such as K1000, Openbook, or an off-the-shelf product like FineReader or Omnipage.

Hi all
Can someone maybe tell me exactly how to create PDF documents so that
jaws can read them? Thing is, the university where I study give me my
books in PDF format, jaws can read some but there's also some it can't
read. I asked them and they said they compile them in exactly the same
way. Now I'm wondering if there's anything else I can tell them that
they must do when creating the PDF's to make them work.

Re: JAWS with Outlook under windows 7

epierce@...

Dean,

Thanks for the feedback.

Outlook 2010: message body is not read by JAWS. This is inconsistent. Some messages read ok, others, not. A message that is not read by JAWS on the first attempt will be correctly read at a later time. It may take as many as three or four attempts to get a message to read properly. The problem may be related to Outlook's 2010/2007's use of Word 2010/2007 and HTML rendering. (will try to provide more info later on that.) JAWS cursor will usually work as an alternative, but that is only good for sort messages as scrolling past bottom of a given screen does not work with JAWS cursor.

Attachments are not handled correctly due to Outlook's attachment "preview" functionality. This is documented by FS. In addition, JAWS has problems reading the attachment list consistently. This seems to be related to, or similar, to the issue with the inconsistent reading of the message body.

The PC is joined to a Microsoft network "domain", and Outlook 2010 is configured to connect to an Exchange 2010 server.

As per someone else's suggestion, JAWS 13 might work better, so that will probably be used in the next test on a clean install in a month or so.

I use Outlook with win7 and find it works well with JAWS13, but I don't use
all Outlook's functionality. What challenges are you having with it?

Re: Where in the world are you?

Grald,

Thanks for the feedback.

One of their rules is "no bashing of Freedom Scientific"

That seems like bad politics to me.

I do not understand the rule. I've been doing IT work for 25+ years, and I'm sick of companies that pressure administrators of public discussion lists on their product to curtail activism against abusive/predatory company behavior, policies, etc.

(I'm a labor activist, advocating against corporate abuses and for better accessibility for workers.)

I do understand that some user/advocacy groups feel they have to suck up to a company to get "insider" tech support information.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Cy,

Thanks for the feedback.

So, you are using Outlook 2007?

If so, is the PC joined to a Microsoft network "domain"? Are you connecting to an Exchange 2010 server?

Have a nice day.

Hi,
I use JAWS on a W7, 64 bit HP laptop and Outlook from Office 2007 works
quite well with it.

Re: Crack For Jaws 64 Bit Win 7

epierce@...

Ted,

Thanks for the info. We will try JAWS 13 in the next round of testing.

We are already using IE7:

IE7 is the default browser when Windows 7 is installed. IE8 installation is blocked (by a utility that you can download from microsoft's web site) as part of out standard setup/configuration at this time.

Some additional information has come to light about HTML and Word 2010 being implicated in the JAWS 11 and JAWS 12 problems in Outlook. I'll try to remember to forward it later.

JAWS 13 runs like a top at both home
and work, and Internet apps that drove me to distraction are now
reliable. Had I only known. . . .

John,

I just visited the Apple site to download any updates to iTunes. Did you
know that this message is on that page? Perhaps you can talk them into
bringing it into reality?

Of course it will still do all the things iTunes did before. It just makes
it easier to navigate around. Check out the guides when you install it.
There is a lot of good info on what the scripts can do.

give it a shot and plus there is no such thing as a stupid question! Haha.

You can leave it there, but there was an update to fix all this auto update
business. Download this version first

Hi,
I have been following this thread of updates and I am thinking I might try
this jem out. I use regular Itunes latest version but with the automated
updates now that sounds pretty cool. Will I need to remove the regular
Itunes or just leave it there?

Yes, I have made it simple to keep updated with the latest scripts so no
more announcements need to be made. If you are out of date, it will
automatically initiate the download for you. If you are fine, there are no
nags or pop up wihndows.
Download it here:
