As soon as I get used to it they come out with a new version that has spaces where it didn't before and no spaces where before there were some, so it makes it hard to read stuff by using CTRL+downarrrow.

Research it provides info without ads and much of the clutter found on many
web sites.
I use it for instant weather, CNN headlines with the option to link to the
article, also BBC and tech news. It also provides a quick link to Wikipedia

Not bashing anyone here, but I am genuinely curious.

Possible Fix for JAWS 13.0.718 & Outlook Express

Mike & Barbara <mb69mach1@...>

Hi All,

I just went into Jaws Quick Settings, with the Jaws key + V, keystroke.
Arrowed down to, General Mail Settings, Message Header Field With Message
Announcement, unchecked this box, hit enter, & Jaws seems to be reading
emails a hell of a lot better. So, if anyone is having this problem give
the above a try. Hope this helps. Take care.

Greetings All: Since installing the latest iteration of JAWS 13, I
note
new
irritating behavior with Outlook Express. When entering a single
message,
JAWS will generally repeat the subject line and, seemingly at random,
begin
somewhere within the message requiring me to keystroke to the
beginning
of
the message.
It seems to behave better when dealing with a queue of messages when
deleting the first message. Then subsequent messages open
appropriately
with their first line but this is risky business without first
previewing
the subject of the messages awaiting attention in the In Box.
I scribble all of this to inquire if other Lookout Express users are
having
similar problems. If it matters, I use the aging XP Home O S.
Happy Friday and don't forget Valentine's Day. You have been warned.

Hi Karen,

Sorry to take so long getting back to you. If I remember correctly, you mentioned you live in Canada. I am not familiar with the social services there but I would suggest you find out what government or private agencies in your area work with the blind and visually impaired. Here in the States we have both government and private services available to assist vlind and visually impaired persons gain the skills to function as normally as possible... and this includes mobility training.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance but if you have any other questions you think I might be able to answer, don't hesitate to contact me.

The Seeing gets its financial from private donations. If you want the same
from FS, go out and find private individuals to donate to them. I am sick of
all this whining. This is what makes nonblind persons feel sorry for us. And
also, this kind of attitude is what makes it more difficult for some blind

So if a company can get sponsership or whatever to ask $150 for a
guide dog why can't another company get sponserships or government
support to make jaws a lot cheeper and afordable for a lot more people
around the world? I live in South Africa which is assentially a 3rd
world country compared to America and England. I can aford a computer,
software, a braille machine and jaws but so many others in this
country can't. As I'm sitting here I know for a fact that more than
half of people who whent to school with me, won't be able to aford
their own computer not even mentioning jaws, my question is, what
happens to those people, what oppertunities do they have in the main
streem world and all this just because companies rip off blind people
because they know, the blind people need their products to funktion.

Karen,

That depends upon which guide dog school you attend. All my dogs have
been

from th Seeing Eye where you pay $150 for your first dog and $50 for all
replacements. This is the same price structure they have used since
their
inception in 1929. The Lions have nothing to do with this school. When
you leave the school, noone, including the Seeing Eye., can tell you
what
to do with your doog which if I am correct, is not the case with some of
the other schools. You and you alone own your dog.

And yes, it costs thousands of dollars for them to train your animal.
The
above costs above cover all your expenses, including transportation from
anywhere in the U.S. ... and I can tell you, this school treats you
fabulously and with a great deal of respect.

Sandy... whose 3rd dog, Dory, sadly died this past Christmas Eve.

No, Nickus, the guide dog schools give the dogs totally free to the
final users.
But they spent a lot of money since the dog is a puppy to the final
training stage.

I don't agree with piracy but agree that jaws and most other assistive
devices are crazally expensive. If you really can't aford jaws then
use NVDA, it's totally free and feeture wise it's rite up there with
jaws, in fact there's some semi accessible software which I can access
better with NVDA than with jaws. Something else somebody mentioned,
does it really cost $3800 to get a guide dog in the US? If I
understand rite, that's crazy. In South africa we pay about the
equivalent of $15 or $20 but then again for stuff like jaws we pay
about equivalent of $1500. We don't easally get government bersaries
for assistive devices but can claim assistive devices back from the
government through income tax but you must still have the cash to fork
out and then wait a year or more before you can claim it back.

I use it for instant weather, CNN headlines with the option to link to the article, also BBC and tech news. It also provides a quick link to Wikipedia and Wiktionary.

Never having used research it, I was wondering if one of you who uses
it regularly could explain what its advantages are? I'm talking about
when it works properly, how is it better than simply going to your
favorite search engine and doing your inquiry that way?

Not bashing anyone here, but I am genuinely curious.

The Seeing gets its financial from private donations. If you want the same
from FS, go out and find private individuals to donate to them. I am sick of
all this whining. This is what makes nonblind persons feel sorry for us. And
also, this kind of attitude is what makes it more difficult for some blind
persons get employment. Get off your butt, stop whining, and do something

Sandy,

Yes, I agree that there are far too many pampered, whiny, immature blind
people who make it look bad for those who work for a living.

But we all deal with our handicap in different ways, don't we.

Get off your butt, stop whining, and do something
constructive for yourself.

Sandy... whose 3rd dog, Dory, sadly died this past Christmas Eve.

i was told the dog school charges one dollar for the dog, but it cost
them thirty five thousand dollars to train a dog and the lions club pay
for this because they sponsor the blind. karen

Greetings All: Since installing the latest iteration of JAWS 13, I note
new
irritating behavior with Outlook Express. When entering a single message,
JAWS will generally repeat the subject line and, seemingly at random,
begin
somewhere within the message requiring me to keystroke to the beginning of
the message.
It seems to behave better when dealing with a queue of messages when
deleting the first message. Then subsequent messages open appropriately
with their first line but this is risky business without first previewing
the subject of the messages awaiting attention in the In Box.
I scribble all of this to inquire if other Lookout Express users are
having
similar problems. If it matters, I use the aging XP Home O S.
Happy Friday and don't forget Valentine's Day. You have been warned. <G>

Hi Kim. It merely saves a few steps. People who don't want to go to a website and look up the same information like it. I can't be bothered myself, since I can easily go to my favorites menu, visit a site, and find what I want to know, usually jumping around by headings or some other attribute.

really taking up precious time by the programmers fixing something
that will never be stable and should use that time in fixing real

JFW Listers,

I sent this out to the address

suggestions@freedomscientific.com

I wanted to let them know how I felt about ResearchIt and
the way they
were
implementing fixes to it. If you feel so inclined to send
them similar
suggestions, I think they need a little adjustment to their
strategy.

My message:

I was momentarily using my copy of JAWS 12 and went to use
ResearchIt.
It
occurred to me that when using a backdated copy of JAWS,
some of the
ResearchIt fixes carried in later updates were not there.

Since ResearchIt is so impacted by underlying web sites to work
properly,
it
is by nature something that will need to be updated and patched
frequently -- quite similar to the scripts we all use in JAWS.

So my question/suggestion is this: For the benefit of those
who are not
current, and in keeping with the capability of scripts to be
updated
irrespective of the version being used, why aren't
ResearchIt patches
released separately so that they can be applied to any
version of JAWS
that
shipped with ResearchIt? That seems to make sense from two
perspectives:

1. Customers are not forced to be stuck with a non-functioning
ResearchIt
when their only recourse is to pay for an update to a newer
major
version,
and
2. Freedom Scientific need not roll out an update simply due
to a need
to
patch ResearchIt, thus allowing separate development of
patches to
follow
their own release schedule.

Please give this some consideration.
