JFW Compatible OCR Programs

Gary King

I'm interested in OCR programs that are accessible with JFW. Are you using FineReader, OmniPage or other OCR programs with JAWS for Windows? If you are using a camera to acquire images with these programs, which one, and how good are your results? I Have Open Book and PEARL, but I would like to compare ease of use and accuracy with other OCR programs. FineReader 11 and OmniPage 18 are priced about the same, around the $120 mark. Not sure yet which one I will try. Other suggestions are welcome!

Text box contents + JAWS

Desai, Ishita (GE Healthcare) <Ishita.Desai@...>

Hi,

I have few read-only multiline textbox in Visual Basic 6.0 application.
For some textboxes, JAWS reads it out as "<textbox contents> . Use your
reader keys to read the text".. And for other textboxes, it reads it out
in reverse way "Use your reader keys to read the text <textbox
contents>"..

Any thoughts on why its like this?

Thanks,

Ishita

JAWS does not read out dialog from top to bottom when I press Insert+B key

Desai, Ishita (GE Healthcare) <Ishita.Desai@...>

Hello,

When I run my Visual Basic 6.0 application from the code, JAWS reads out
a dialog box from top to bottom when I press Insert+B key. However, when
I run the compiled application (exe), the same dialog box is not read
out properly - it seems to be from bottom to top, and some labels being
missed out. Any idea why there is a different behavior?

Thanks,

Ishita

JAWS reads out the textbox along with the button?

Desai, Ishita (GE Healthcare) <Ishita.Desai@...>

Hi,

In my Visual Basic 6.0 application, there is a button and a read-only
text box on the right side of the button..

E.g. <button> <Text Box>

When the focus is on the text box, JAWS reads out "<button Caption> read
only edit <text box contents>

Is there a way that only the text box content would be read out? The
button should be read out when it recieves the focus.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Ishita

John,

Somehow the concept of adding a radio station to a playlist makes no sense
to me. It makes more sent to have favorite radio stations to choose from
,and local radio stations are available with the iPod and I suspect with
iTunes, as well to be added to a list of favorites.

As for the internet stations on iTunes via the computer, I suspect these
can
also be put into a list of favorites. I'll have to explore this a bit more
when I get the chance.

And now that I've gone completely away from anything relating to JAWS I'll
shut up.

ITunes&Jaws: Remembering last position button not reading right

Gerardo Corripio <gera1027@...>

HI guys: Using Jaws12 with ITunes 10.2 and BlindTunes; especially in
audiobooks I like to set the Remember last Position button to checked so
when I resume the book I won't have to fast forward on my Ipod (or in ITunes
depending where I'm listening) to get where I was. Because I haven't tried
it before installing BlindTunes that's why I'm asking do you guys find that
with Jaws12 and BlindTunes the Remember Position button doesn't get read,
having to use the Jaws cursor to click it on or off? Also more weird why
when the audiobook is in Music the remember position button works OK, but
when I move the file to Audiobook it stops working, making an error sound in
ITunes like I pressed an invalid command. Any ideas? Has this also happened
to you guys since iTunes 10, or does it have nothing to do with the new
ITunes, being something else?

I have heard of people using the default Windows 7 speech recognition engine. I've heard it is not quite as good as Naturally Speaking 10.
I have Dragon Naturally Speaking 10, and intend to install Version 11 tomorrow.
I'm told it is the same engine that Siri uses on the iPhone. If so, then I wouldn't settle for anything less.
On my iPhone, Siri has made a total of 2 mistakes in the 5 weeks since I've had her. Vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly better than Dragon Naturally Speaking 10.
I'll let you know after installation.
Your friend will need a headset microphone, but she gets one for free with the Pro version (perhaps Preferred too).
Allegedly, no training is needed for Version 11. The training was the main reason for J-SAY.
I used to use J-SAY, but the security settings in my law firm made it impossible successfully to install J-SAY. So, I bought it for nothing, and haven't tried it for at least 3 years. Naturally Speaking works just fine without J-SAY.

Hello All,

I have a friend who recently hurt her hand and wants to use speech
recognition to enter text into a Word 2010 document. Using the traditional
keyboard is making her hand hurt a lot and she thought the speech
recognition software that comes automatically loaded with Windows 7 would
help her. Does anyone know if she will be able to use speech recognition to
enter the text and JAWS to review it to ensure it is working. My friend is

Oh cool. Thanks I thought you had to use Jay say with Dragon, so I didn't
recommend it for her. It will take her hand a while to recover, as she has
to have surgery. A long term solution like Dragon Naturally Speaking might
be a good option for her. Thanks again. I will let her know.

I have heard of people using the default Windows 7 speech recognition
engine. I've heard it is not quite as good as Naturally Speaking 10.
I have Dragon Naturally Speaking 10, and intend to install Version 11
tomorrow.
I'm told it is the same engine that Siri uses on the iPhone. If so, then I
wouldn't settle for anything less.
On my iPhone, Siri has made a total of 2 mistakes in the 5 weeks since I've
had her. Vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly, vastly better than Dragon
Naturally Speaking 10.
I'll let you know after installation.
Your friend will need a headset microphone, but she gets one for free with
the Pro version (perhaps Preferred too).
Allegedly, no training is needed for Version 11. The training was the main
reason for J-SAY.
I used to use J-SAY, but the security settings in my law firm made it
impossible successfully to install J-SAY. So, I bought it for nothing, and
haven't tried it for at least 3 years. Naturally Speaking works just fine
without J-SAY.

My friend is
another college student and it is very important for her to get the
information correct that the computer types and she wants to make sure to
review it for accuracy.

Re: Itunes

Gary King

Howard,
iTunes was just examining the folders on your drive so that it could list your music in its library. It wasn't moving anything. I don't know any way to get the process started again. You can import individual folders using options on the Files Menu.

You may benefit from listening to 3 podcasts from Freedom Scientific. Go to the web site and look for the FSCast link. If you read through the list of podcasts, you will find that FSCasts 49 and 50 are concerned with using iTunes with JFW, and FsCast 59 is an interview with John Martin, the author of the Blind Tunes scripts.

As for the Blind Tunes scripts, Insert+q should give the version number of the scripts. Maybe you have a bad installation. There is a form for contacting John Martin on the page where you got the scripts. Also, John may be monitoring the list and can come to your rescue.

Hi Karen et al,
When I thought iTunes was taking over, i stopped it; rather stupid, don't you think. Now I need to figure out how to get it to finish the job--whatever it was doing.

I installed "blindtunes" but now when I run iTunes and do a JAWSKey plus q, it still says default scripts are loaded. It seems that, for some reason, jaws isn't finding the blindtunes scripts. Does that need to be fixed, huh? Thanks.

What the heck was it doing? Was it moving all my stuff? I used to know where to find it all. does anybody have any instructions of this huge thing? I think it's taking over! HELP!

Oops, sorry for putting two links in that post. I had more on the clipboard than I thought. Still, you should be able to find it.

At 09:35 PM 12/5/2011, you wrote:
go to www.apple.com/itunes and click on "<http://www.apple.com/itunes//itunes/download/>Download iTunes Now"
On the page that comes up, look for the version you need, for example, 10.51 for Windows 7.

Re: Itunes

Dondi

Hi,

I'll have to try this. That raises another question is iTunes incapable of
burning the song titles to the CD like Windows media player can do? I
created a compilation CD of many different artist's and none of the song
titles were burned to the CD.

Dondi,

Then your CD must not have been properly burned. Try doing another one.

Hi,

I'm not sure if your referring to my email about iTunes ignoring my homemade
CD. But no iTunes doesn't do anything with this music CD I have. Other then
this CD it will see and rip all the rest to the library.

it doesn't ask you if you want to import the CD when you insert it
