Very strange -- which exact version of JAWS 13? The latest update, perhaps?

I suppose this probably won't be a big concern for FS, but it's annoying to
me.

Since installing JAWS 13, when switching from my husband's identity in
Outlook Express to mine, JAWS won't read emails. I open then and it's
blank. If I close Outlook Express after he's switched back, and then
reopen, JAWS reads the emails just fine.

Anyone have any idea why this happens? I've never experienced it with any
previous version of JAWS.

Re: [Bulk] JAWS 13.0.638

Dave...

Lori,

If you have the restore feature enabled, then you will have a restore point
automatically created when you installed the JAWS 13.0.638 update. Use that
to go back.

If not, then launch an older JAWS version or Narrator and uninstall JAWS 13,
then reinstall with the 13.0.527 update.

I've reported this and it's been confirmed by FS.

"
My bad experience was with a web site where I had the "Remember me on this
computer" feature enabled at the logon. Normally I hear my user name in the
edit field when opening such web pages.

With this last update of JAWS (and with no other versions before) I heard a
reading of the lines of one of the underlying script files read on and on
and on. The username was actually there, but JAWS was off reading something
completely wrong. The offending text string was no where on the screen -- it
was just being fed into the synthesizer.
"

I have also experienced a similar problem with JAWS reading some sort of
script in the edit field of username areas, but it also extends to some
search boxes for me. I am using Windows Vista and IE8.

How can I go back to JAWS 13.0.527? Silly me didn't make a restore point on
my computer, so I hope there is a way within JAWS, else I'll be going back
to my old JAWS 10, until FS fixes this latest bug.

Hi JAWS Users Again

Again I ;am using JAWS 12 with Word 2007 on Windows 7.

I use the Mark feature while writing this Novel.
TheSet Mark command is: Control Windows Key and K.
To go to the Mark I use Windows Key K.
When I go to the mark and use an arrow key to read the line I am on, the
cursor moves to the Top of the document, which can be a jump of 170 pages.
I have found that pressing the space bar prevents this from happening, so I
use the back space key to get rid of the space.

Is this a JAWS Bug? or is their a setting or have I done something that I am
unaware of to cause this?

Dave...

John,

Seems to work with JAWS 13. Perhaps something they broke and fixed again?

First press insert+1 on the number row to turn on training mode.
Then type Shift+Alt+L and see if it's a recognized keystroke.

If not, then it may have accidentally been left off the keyboard manager
list.

I am using JAWS 12 and Word 2007 on a Windows 7 64 bit system.

I am writing a novel using Word, and the Alt Shift L command no longer

I am forced use the Quick Keys and the letter M to do this function, and I
know that F7 will also work. But the Alt Shift L was more efficient.
Is this a bug in JAWS or is it some kind of setting?

I have a question for anyone who might be able to help me.
I am using Jaws 12, and I need to get to the option in my gmail account that will not leave a copy on the server.
I can not seem to find this, so I am wondering, if anyone can write me off list and give me step by step directions as to how to get to this option.
Thank you,

Hi list. Using JAWS 9 and IE 8, I am somehow no longer able to change or
select any options on the Google search settings page under options on the
Google home page. For example, under the heading Google Instant
Predictions, the words On and Off are displayed, but there is apparently
no way to select either of these options. Under the Results Per Page
heading, the numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 100 are shown, but there is
no way to select the option you want. And when I hit Space or Enter on
the Save Preferences button, nothing happens. I have cookies enabled, so
that's not the issue. JAWS announces that there are no check boxes or
radio boxes on the page. I never had problems with the Google Search
Settings page before. Previously, the settings could be changed by
selecting the appropriate check box or radio box, but JAWS either no
longer recognizes these boxes on the Search Settings page, or they have
otherwise been eliminated. Did Google change the Search Settings page so
that it is no longer JAWS accessible? Or am I missing something? Can
someone explain what the heck is going on with the Google Search Settings
page? Thanks for any help.

Hi, is anybody finding that when using the JAWS 13 latest build that the
shortcut key INSERT SHIFT V does not work to bring up the personalised web
settings dialogue. Also any persnalised settings already set on a site don't
seem to be taken in to consideration. I've got a page which auto refreshes
and no matter what I do I can't stop it using the document refresh setting
even though I've previously set it not to auto refresh.

Jaws 9 at work with no chance for an upgrade due to scripts created for 9,
and I am in no way able to script, only wish I could, I'd dump some help
messages I am sick to death of hearing and fix other things if I could. I
could probably do the help messages but, frankly, I am not going to touch
these scripts, I have fixed a few in my time but this particular set I am
not touching.

I have Window-eyes at work. Adobe will not read some documents. It says
empty document or does not come up at all when presented with aPDF file. It
does this when the emailed material is similar to a picture of words such as
captcha is.
Any thoughts?

Re: becoming a jaws beta tester

I have had more problems with 13, than I have with any version since the
first release of 4. First and most important to me was the control
backspace not working, I installed, reinstalled, deleted all shared
components, reinstalled again and again to no avail. I have had more times
when I need to shut Jaws down and bring it back in 13 also, including the
latest version. I used to not need to do that unless I decided to use
something other than Jaws.

When it works it is nice, it just seems to be needed a fresh start more
often than I think necessary.

Cy,

As cynical as I can be, I do think that JAWS 13 is a much better product
than 12. Goes back to my original theory that only odd-numbered versions of
JAWS are worth the price. Too bad we can't purchase an SMA that follows that
pattern.

Sure, 3 months is plenty of time. There's an old adage that if one writer,
writing one page per day can produce a 600-page book in 600 days, we then
can extrapolate and say that 600 writers can produce the same book in 1 day,
correct?

So goes Beta testing. As long as every beta tester is testing something
different in the code, then the more testers, the better. And if they are
all working 8 hours a day to dedicated testing (and not just playing around
with ResearchIt) 100 testers can put in 100 x 8 x 90 hours of testing. A
whopping 72,000 hours. If that really happened and the developers resolved
all the bugs found, we would have a very stable product, indeed.

But of course there are likely fewer testers, fewer hours per day, and much
more overlap.

Dave,
First three months? Man, are you optimistic. (LOLLOLLOL)
Did they ever get 12 reasonably clean?
I am still on 11 and wonder how 13 is for real.
I am trying to decide if I really want to renew my SMA or is it just going
to be waste of money - again?

RJ,

Everyone is a beta tester for at least the first 3 months of a new release.

Okay, I'm cynical. Actually the new version does pre-release about a month
in advance and everyone is welcome to download and report bugs. However
given the short time I really don't think those bug reports ever make it to
the first release. I suspect that these bugs get fixed in the succeeding
monthly updates. Okay, cynical again, but not quite so much, eh?

Other than that if you want to be a Beta tester for real, you need to
contact FS directly and let them know you're interested. Then be prepared to

devote a lot of time to wringing out as many quirks as possible, with as
many applications as possible, in as many operating environments as possible

during the testing cycles, and report every single thing you find that
either works or does not work.

If I ever retire and have nothing to do, I'll volunteer.

Yes, sometimes, not always, usually closing Jaws and restarting it works to
clear it up, using 2010 but it is enough like 2007.

List,

After downloading and installing the latest JAWS 13 update, in Outlook 2007
every message is announced as "not selected." It reads this way when
arrowing up and down in every folder. Anyone else experiencing this
behavior?
