Re: Re Using Document Compare Software on MS Word Documents AKA Red Lining Documents how to use jaws effectively?

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Jean's tip will work.
Also, check to see if your comparison software will insert "change numbers."
Here is why. You can search for deleted text using one font, but then you have to go back for added text.
If you can insert change numbers, you can usually search for the change number style. That way, you will land on every change, deletions and additions.
Do the search as Jean suggested. Be sure to select more options.
Then, select format and style.
Then, pick the change number style.
It may be helpful first to check what your program calls the change number style.
Turn on styles in the verbosity menu with insert plus v.
We use Workshare DeltaView, and the above technique is what I use.
Ps
Having the change numbers makes it easy to point out specific changes if, for example, you are trying to describe or criticize a particular change.

Re: Re Using Document Compare Software on MS Word Documents AKA Red Lining Documents how to use jaws effectively?

Jean Menzies <jemenzies@...>

You can search for text with specific attributes. If you just want to
search for anything with bold, use Control-F to go to Search, and press
control-B. This cycles through bold and no bold. Teh same for Control-I
for italics. Of course, you could have a word in your search field as well
and apply that attribute. If you click on the More tab, you can go into
Format and into Font, and choose any attribute you want to search for as
well. Just remember to choose No formatting within the more tab when you're
done, or else you'll never find plain text. Hope this quick explanation
helped.

Jean is absolutely correct. The reading of automatic numbering in JAWS
has

become progressively less reliable with every version of JAWS since
Version

10 (at least).
Here is what I do with version 12 of JAWS. These style numbers are there,
and they are probably right. JAWS is just not reading the number or is
reading the wrong number. Well, actually, JAWS is screwing up when you
use

the regular cursor. Amazingly, when you switch to the JAWS cursor (the
mouse), JAWS will read your numbers correctly.
First, get your cursor on the line where the number should be. Then, do a
route JAWS to PC command. Then do a read line command, and you should
hear

the proper number or letter read. I can almost guarantee this in JAWS 12.
I wouldn't guarantee anything with JAWS 13.
I proved the number reading bug to Freedom Scientific escalation a couple
of

years ago. I sent a Word document to Freedom Scientific. Then I had the
technician read the line with the PC cursor in JAWS 10. It read fine. I
had him do it in JAWS 11, and ...
Another place where this is annoying is in reading automatic
cross-references. Reading with the mouse (or JAWS cursor), one will hear
cross-references as they appear, e.g., 4.8(d)(ii). When reading with the
regular cursor, one gets something like "mergecode 176527-319788
4.8(d)(2).
The point is that Freedom Scientific knows about this bug and has done
nothing about it in the last 3 versions.
We should be comforted to know, however, that the reporting of Red Sox
scores has become more and more accurate. Knowing that makes me sleep
better at night. <SMILE>

I've seen problems with Jaws not reading style names and/or line numbers
correctly in Word 2003 with various versions of Jaws beyond version 8.
I've
seen significant problems of intermittent reading, and then less problems,
and I have no idea what the triggers were. I have no solutions, and right
now my versions with style names seem to be quite stable, although
sometimes
it doesn't read when I know it should. The only thing I can suggest is
trying older versions of Jaws to see if you can find a better match up for
your issue.

I need to use styles in a word template. I am using word 2003. There
are different levels
within the template and each inserts its own kind of numbering.
So level one headings are one two three etc. Level 2 are 1.1 .2 and so
on.
However jaws doesn't always pick up the numbering. The numbering is
there but I have difficulty in interacting with this. How can I fix
this

Hi all I urgently need a way to select the entire contents of a cell
or row in a table in ms word, using jaws.
At the moment the best I can do is a word at a time.
Shift + down arrow does not select a row in a table unfortunately.
thanks very much

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

What version of Word?
If Word 2003, go to tables (Alt plus A). Then, pick "select."
Then choose row, column, cell, or ...
That will highlight. Then copy, cut, or whatever.

Jean is absolutely correct. The reading of automatic numbering in JAWS
has

become progressively less reliable with every version of JAWS since
Version

10 (at least).
Here is what I do with version 12 of JAWS. These style numbers are
there,
and they are probably right.

Then, do
a
route JAWS to PC command. Then do a read line command, and you should
hear

the proper number or letter read. I can almost guarantee this in JAWS
12.

I've
seen significant problems of intermittent reading, and then less
problems,
and I have no idea what the triggers were. I have no solutions, and
right
now my versions with style names seem to be quite stable, although
sometimes
it doesn't read when I know it should. The only thing I can suggest is
trying older versions of Jaws to see if you can find a better match up
for

How can I fix
this
