How to make a suggestion to Freedom Scientific?

Ari Damoulakis <aridamoulakis@...>

Hi all
I know this has come up quite a few times on the list, the problem of
people wanting to use language software to learn a language. Yes, such
as Rocket Languages, Rosetta Stone or Innovative Language Learning. As
far as I've read, some people have tried these and said they're
inaccessible? Is there an email address that some of us could try to
suggest to FS to at least try to work with the developer to make one
of these accessible? Since I'm too scared to actually buy a copy of
one of these, I'm not sure if they actually can be made accessible,
like I've heard rosetta stone uses pictures, but Rocket Languages and
Innovative Language Learning's programs could be possible to be used
by blind people since you do get mp3 audio lessons as well? Yes I know
about audio language courses, but they of course don't teach reading
and writing and they're not interactive and can't do all the smart
things these courses can like VR etc. Anyone with more experience in
this please email me.
Thanks
Ari

Ah yes, I'm familiar with that situation, having experienced it myself a time or two, or three <grin>. Let me clarify things a bit. Although I could have used iTunes on my iPhone to create the Apple ID, I actually created the ID when I launched the app store app on my phone for the first time. Perhaps that took me into iTunes and I just wasn't aware of it (the Scotch or bourbon, mind you <chuckle>), but whatever the case, it worked and there was absolutely no kaptcha to give me a pain in the posterior.

Getting back on track for a sec before I'm outa here, it sure would be nice if JAWS' Convenient OCR feature could help decipher kaptchas so we wouldn't have a browser-dependent solution.

Tom

Take care.

More mystified now. I never have the reading pane turned on. Without the

To remove SAPI support run the synthesizer and braille manager
(JAWS+J, Utilities then synthesizer and braille manager.

Then hit the "Add, Remove or Change Devices" button.
Select Speech Synthesizers and hit Next
Uncheck SAPI in the list and hit Finish.
Finally hit the Close button in the Synthesizer and Braille manager window.

Re: SAPI files

Along the same line, Does anyone know how to remove the Sapi 5 option in the
voice profile (insert+control+S) dialog? I don't have these voices currently
installed and I'm always clicking on this option which leaves me with no
speech when trying to get to my other voice profile that I created for
Spanish. Not the end of the world to get back into the dialog and select the
correct profile, but removing it all together would be nice.

The archive downloads don't contain the voices though, even the update
cd packs that FS sent out didn't contain them as far as I am aware.
Only the original in-box disc pack did, along with the jaws
authorization CD.

I believe jaws 9 was the last to ship with the SAPI voices.

Facebook Question

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

Ok, I figured it out through the http://m.facebook.com simplified interface.
It was still convoluted though, and beared no resemblance to what a few well-meaning sighted friends told me to look for. *LOL*
so my question still stands, regarding bridging the communication gap when trying to describe things back and forth with the sighted folk.

Any tips?

Facebook Question

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

Hi folks.

Has anybody managed to leave a Facebook group? I'm having trouble finding a simple "leave group" option anywhere.
Asking sighted folks where it resides is of no help, since Jaws reorganizes things into a different reading order compared to what they see.

For that matter, is there an easy way to show a sighted person visually how I hear a web page through Jaws, remotely I mean? Somewhere online that demonstrates "ok, this is what you see, but this is what I hear and in this order."

Because it's just about impossible dialoguing with sighted folks about these things. "it's on the right, near the search box" is a typical example of a suggestion from a sighted person, and they may be entirely correct, visually. But there seems to be no way to translate that into a strategy with Jaws to locate things on the same screen.
