Re: Lotus notes and attachments

Tom Behler

Tom:

I use Lotus Notes at work.

It is a real pain, but here's what I do.

If there is only one attachment, you can usually access it via Alt T.

If there are more than one attachment, you have to do a alt A for actions, and then usually an alt D. Then, you have to use your arrow keys to move your PC cursor to the place in the message where the attachments can be found.

Sometimes, it's really like hunting and pecking, but I can usually find most of them.

Fortunately for me, my University is going to migrate to Outlook 2010 as its e-mail client, and it can't come soon enough!

Re: using the numpad keys

Soronel Haetir

With jaws why not just use the jaws cursor which simulates mouse
movements? It's way more convenient than windows' mouse keys bit,
which from the sound of it is what you are thinking.

You switch to the jaws cursor with the numpad - key (back to pc cursor
with numpad +), and then you can just use the arrow keys to move
around, and the numpad/ for a left mouse click and numpad * for a
right mouse click.

There are also keys for much smaller movements than the raw arrows
provide but I forget what they are, take a look at the jaws help for
those.

If you do a Google search for

"OneNote 2010 From The Keyboard"

you will find a free book in PDF format that explains how to use OneNote
with assistive technology. I just read through part of the book, enough to
figure out that I didn't really need OneNote. It seems to be primarily
designed for students who need to take lecture notes. My student days are
long over.

The book explains the structure of the program and gives shortcuts for
navigation. OneNote should be accessible with both JAWS and Window Eyes.

It integrates with other tools like MS communicator, outlook. You can store and organize all kinds of microsoft file types like word and excell. You can share with your colleagues. Kind of cool but Its is really inaccessable.

Juanita,

Yes, for XP you need to create and execute a file that will change a
value in your registry. Here's a complete text from an old E-Mail
message explaining how to do it, compliments of "The Elf" who once used
to be on this list.

Here is how to increase the time balloon tips stay on your computer.

Copy the below in note pad and save it. Now find the file you just
created and rename it to "changeballoontime.reg: and enter on it and say
yes when prompted if you want to add the information to your registry.

Copy what is between start copying and end copying; but do not copy the
words start copying and end copying.

start copying

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Tra
yNotify]
"BalloonTip"=dword:0000000a

end copying

Okay. However, we have two values given--yours and one of the other

It's more fear-factor than it deserves. Just export a complete copy

Hex is based on 16 instead of 10.

How does that change the time value? I presume the key is that last
line. I've never messed with the registry by hand. Back in the Bronze
Age, it was easy to get hold of a DOS manual, and learn to tweak (Peter
Norton had one of the best), but, being my own administrator back at the
house, I've always been reluctant to risk crippling my system, even with
Restore available.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Tra
yNotify]
"BalloonTip"=dword:0000000a

end copying

Hi Ted,
In Windows 7 it's under "Ease of Access". Type Ease of Access in to the
search box in the start prompt. In the Ease of Access Center go to "Make
it
easier to focus on tasks" and hit enter.
Near the end of the options that come up is a setting to adjust the time
that those balloons stay on screen.
I adjusted mine to 1 minute which gives me enough time to find them and
click on them.

Good question, it is a microsoft note organizer type program. Not sure how else to describe it. It is part of microsoft's productivity tools. It integrates with other tools like MS communicator, outlook. You can store and organize all kinds of microsoft file types like word and excell. You can share with your colleagues. Kind of cool but Its is really inaccessable.
I can't think of a replacement.
