Below is a summary of updates and changes: All, Below is the list of changes that have occurred as a result of feedback over the past few weeks. If you have JAWS 13 public beta 1 installed, the next time you restart JAWS 13, it should alert you that the update is now available. Work is continuing and we expect the next update for you within 3 weeks. Quick Settings * In Windows 7, after you press the APPLICATIONS key on an item in the tree view to open the context menu to change the persistence level, resolved an issue where the braille display would only show the first item in the menu even though JAWS would speak the other options as you navigate. In addition, the check mark indicating the current persistence level for an option is now shown in braille. * Updated the INSERT+F1 help messages for the Search edit field and the tree view to provide more information specific to Quick Settings. * Toggling the Select and Copy option, located under the Virtual Cursor options, now works as expected when set to Virtual Cursor or Using On Screen Highlight. * Added context help for the Last Changed Settings tree view item. * Addressed an issue where changing the punctuation setting for an application in Quick Settings would not work. Controls read fine when the Options Dialog box was opened from the document. * Resolved multiple issues with JAWS not indicating non-uniform tables either during a Say All, or general navigation. * Pressing TAB or SHIFT+TAB to move to the next or previous cell in a table no longer causes JAWS to speak part of the text in the cell you were just in. * Addressed a braille issue where an entire line of text containing a link was being underlined. Only the link itself should have an underline in braille. * Resolved a reported issue where JAWS would sometimes get the table row or column count wrong in Word causing it to announce a change in the number of row or columns when in fact, no change occurred. * Resolved an issue with the German version of JAWS where spelling errors were not being indicated. Mozilla Firefox * The message "Use JAWSKey+ALT+R to read descriptive text" is no longer heard continuously as you navigate through a table containing a caption. * JAWS now reads the name of the page being bookmarked when the Add Bookmark dialog box opens. * Resolved an issue where links were not highlighted in braille. This only occured in Windows XP. * Pressing INSERT+SPACEBAR, O, C to OCR a graphic now works as expected. * Addressed a reported issue reading lists that contain links. * Resolved an issue regarding the JavaScript function, SetTimeout, reported by a developer. Mozilla Thunderbird * JAWS no longer says "selected" when selecting text in a message and the verbosity level is set to Advanced. * JAWS now reads all of the controls in the Account Settings dialog box. Winamp * Resolved an issue where keystrokes that include both the ALT and CTRL keys were not working as expected. Windows 7 * Resolved an issue in Windows 7 or Vista, if JAWS was getting license keys from a license server on the network and was set to run on the secure desktop, it would not release the ILM key after you logged in. This could cause JAWS to tie up two keys at a single work station. * Braille display controls, such as panning buttons and cursor routers, will now work in the UAK dialog box. Windows Live Mail * Improved JAWS support for the Windows Live Mail calendar. Appointments are now announced as you navigate in the Day, Week, and Month views. Re: installing jaws

What you are describing is what is called a network license. That is
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
different from an individual license and a site license. A network license has a centralized license server on the network that hands out tokens as needed. The licenses are not installed on the local PCs. It is licensed by the number of seats that are needed. Frank

If they have a site license, do they have a license with a sufficient number of users to allow them to do so? The site license we had at work when I left was not an ILM type of authorization. It obtained its token for authorization from our local network, which meant that we had to be connected to the network to use JAWS. If this is the type of authorization your school has, you may be out of luck, since you would not be connected to the server with the tokens when you were away from school. If they can put JAWS on your laptop with an ILM authorization, you will need to remove your ILM activation first and then have the school district technician activate your existing JAWS version with theirs. Then, provided they are eligible for JAWS 13, you can get the upgrade. Jumping in here a little late but the answer is probably no. You will

have to find out what kind of license your district has but I suspect it is an individual or site license. If it is an individual license it is intended to be used by only one person. However that one person can install it on more than one computer assuming they only use one computer at a time. For example if you have an individual license and have a laptop and a desktop you can install it on both computers but only use it on one at a time and never by another person. A site license, on the other hand, is a license based on computers. For example you can have a 20 computer site license which will allow you to install JFW on 20 different computers that are located at the same location, owned by the same organization. The actual number of different people who use those 20 machines is not relevant. The use of laptop computers confuses site licensing a bit since site licensing, as the name implies, only usually applies to a physical location and may require the laptop to remain on premise unless a specific allocation is made in the license for off site use. When it comes to JFW there are at least two other types of licenses, network and dongle. However by your description neither is applicable. To be perfectly honest some of the worst violators of license terms are quite often schools and not for profit organizations. Often they will buy an individual license and think because it comes with several installs they can install if for several different people. I don't have much sympathy for any claimed ignorance here. If a TVI has enough brains to get a whole alphabet soup full of letters after their name then they can understand that an individual license isn't for five or even ten people. Frank

It's hard to follow your explanation of the problem, but it sounds as though

it began when you installed the new antivirus program. I had a similar experience with a malware program that works fine for other JAWS users. The antivirus program you had originally, Microsoft's, has been highly recommended on this list, including by our own Gerald. You might want to speak to your consultant and either return to that software or try another. I'm not convinced that uninstalling and reinstalling JAWS will help. However, if you go that route, the way to uninstall isn't from the control panel. Instead, go to your programs menu, then to the JAWS version you're using and press enter. One option will be uninstall. Then commence installation again either with the disc or the file you may have downloaded from the Net. Again, I hesitate to give such advice because you may have made adjustments to JAWS that you will lose when you uninstall.

Here is the update on my friend computer ,when she was getting ready to take the computer tower back to the shop ,her sighter person is a nurse ,her nurse turn off the computer and turn it back on to see what happen when she see on the screen ,the nurse noticed on the screen saying jaws is lock and need to activated it ,so the nurse went to jaws window to get the serial number then type in the activation box and it's unlock jaws and activate jaws back on !! So my friend don't have to take the computer tower back to the shop again ,since her nurse solved the problem . I asked my friend did her nurse check the box for jaws to automatic activate on and she told me she doesn't think so !! Does my friend need to do anything to check any boxes in jaws window ? O. and no. it's a portable audio player. It has nothing to do with Jaws, other than you might use Jaws and Google to look up information on it. *LOL*

Jaws 13 Beta
Chris Smart <csmart8@...>
For those of you testing Jaws 13 Beta, especially the OCR functions, here's an application that is pretty much invisible to the other screen readers.
AMD Overdrive, for those of you with AMD processors in your machines. http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/amd-overdrive/Pages/overview.aspx Happy fiddling. Chris

When Windows starts, do they hear the Windows start up tune? If not, it is possible that either the speaker output plug has been disconnected from its socket jack or, the system audio output has been muted. HTH sincerely: Dave Durber

I have always believed in the dog wagging the tail, not the other way round. And, having such a piece of software such as you are looking for, would be such a tool for us to use, then we would not be the tail trying to wag the dog, in order for us to keep up with our sighted peers. By the way, have you tried looking at a citation page produced by one of your student colleagues on your computer using JAWS, to see if you can use it as a template for your own citation pages? Sincerely: Dave Durber
