I experience it with one website I visit regularly. I'm sorry to say use of
the website requires being logged in. It's a supermarket delivery company
here in New York. The problems occur on individual product pages. I don't
think you can get past the homepage, but feel free to try:

I'm assuming Marsha has encountered what I have, which are webpages that
JAWS 10 and later can't handle correctly, whereas pre-10 versions can. It
has nothing to do with the old method of filling out forms. I find it
annoying to have to remember that old method when I switch over to 9 on a
page that 11/12 can't process.

Yes, JAWS 9 also enables me to complete forms that I can't access with later
versions. Presumably, it's a result of that JAWS 10 video chain change,
whatever that entailed. Users might find it worth the minor annoyance of
retaining a pre-10 version of JAWS for this reason.

Re: Removing Older Versions of JFW

Lois

When you go into the add/remove programs on the control panel and tell it to remove a version of JAWS, it will act like it's going to install it; but a few steps along, it will tell you it is removing it and will ask if you wish to keep associated files. If this worries you, allowing the files to remain on your system will not harm anything. But it will eventually remove what you have requested to be removed.
Hope this helps.

Re: [Bulk] [Bulk] Removing Older Versions of JFW

Dave...

Joni, Marsha, and Adrian,

Good that you all are not experiencing any problems switching back/forth. As
Adrian has observed more than once on this list, the danger appears to be
when removing one of the older versions when newer versions are installed.
By "older" I mean JAWS 9 and lower, "newer" JAWS 10 and above. The change
from VCM (video chain manager) to DCM (display chain manager) seems to set
up a recipe for disaster when VCM is ripped out of the stack.

Have help ready at hand if you try this.

As to disc space -- Unless you still have a 10 Gb hard drive or less I
wouldn't worry about having extra versions of JAWS sitting there.

Dave, I am not Marsha, but I have swapped between JAWS 5 and 12 with no
problem.

I asked a tech support person at FS about deleting JAWS 4 and 5 just to pick
up a little hard disk space on my computer. She thought it would be best to
keep them because she was afraid it might somehow break the video chain.
Since I am not very adventurous when it comes to computers, I decided not to
delete the older versions.

Marsha,

Not surprised that JAWS 7 still has capabilities lost in later versions. But
I'd go nuts if I had to switch back that far. Also the video chain strategy
changed since then and I wonder if swapping from 7 to 10 or newer could
cause instability with your system. Do you swap between 7 and something new
like 10, 11, 12, or 13?

Adrian, I put on keyboard help, then pressed insert plus spacebar. I got a
pair of ascending click tones just like when help was off. Any following
keypress did nothing obvious.

In the past, maybe back to version 8, I could press insert plus control plus

s and get a list of synthesizers (now voice profiles). One of them was no
speech. No speech is not there any more. I thought of creating a new voice

profile which had speech turned off and using it when I wanted braille only;

but I can't figure out how to get it done.

Any further suggestions? Thanks.

Subject: [Bulk] Re: Removing Older Versions of JFW

HI
I still have Jaws 7 with my XP. Believe it or not, there are still things
I can do with Jaws 7 that I am not able to do with other versions. This is
one reason I don't want to upgrade to Windows 7.

Marsha

Re: [Bulk] bulk

Dave...

Rick,

Which David? You didn't keep the message thread intact. In any case, it's
your or someone's ISP that labels the subject automatically when the content
is suspicious. You can check your ISP if you go to the actual web site for
your mail, and look for spam protection or bulk mail. Since all ISPs are
different I can't be more precise than that.

Personally I just put [bulk] in my JAWS dictionary file and have it speak a
blank space. Then I never hear the annoyance.

David,

Why do all your messages have [bulk] in the subject line?
