Re: PDF

Dave...

Bob,

It's called the Freedom Import Printer on your list of printers after
pressing Ctrl+P. select it and you will eventually end up in Openbook as it
reads the file and converts to readable text.

JAWS won't start automatically

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

My ThinkPad 410 died hardly 60 days after being converted to Windows 7. It was actually a Windows 7 machine in its infancy, but our IT Department laid down an XP Image. On August 2 we moved up to Windows 7 (and I was starting to like it).
Well the hard drive died, and now, I have a ThinkPad 420. The IS department installed JAWS when I was not around. That person apparently didn't think it was important for Windows to come up talking. So, for the past couple of days, I've booted up in silence; however, I've tried repeatedly to set JAWS to load automatically at log-on.
I've read the help file. Since I am not an administrator, I cannot check the box that says load at log-on. The JAWS help, however, says that isn't a problem. Under "load after log-on (and yes, it does say "after"), I'm to select the "always" option. Unfortunately, I do not have an "always for this user" option. I have only "never" and "all users."
I get a very uncomfortable feeling as I type in my password into silence and HOPE all goes well.
Anyone on the list have any suggestions?

It's been awhile, but shouldn't I be able to open a PDF doc. I'm using
JAWS
8 with XP and hoping to open a users manual for my new clock radio. I'd
like

to copy that PDF to MS word...is it possible?

Re: PDF

Dave...

Adrian,

Yes, you are correct. And in fact it's the only way to copy and paste the
resultant text into another application like Word or Notepad.

Sandy,

Yes. Go to the FS web site and look at the What's New in JAWS 13" page.
There is an MP3 file with an interview describing all the features.

I see that is an important point, they would be fearful of competition
then, but I do think once an agreement was drawn up to cco-exist peacefully

Yes,

just about every version of JAWS has had a public beta test cycle, and
just
about every version has still been released with bugs that either
weren't
fixed or weren't noticed/reported by those hundreds of beta-testers.

I was wondering if the testing we have seen for the upcoming Jaws
13,wenton before for other versions. I expect some did behind the
scenes of
course, but was jaws 12 beta tested? Or Jaws 11? Openly on this
listThis
must be an important update for fs and us Not to mention windows 8 next
year. I hope the promised update for jaws 12 will be a good one, not
soft
soap, but cover excel for example. I wonder why it was not more
detailed. I
am sure they must know by now. Welltime will tell dorothy

Dorothy, don't confuse public beta testing where everyone can download and try the new version, with a closed group of selected beta testers.

will be different or I shall become a cynic!Dorothy

Dorothy <dorothy.ingram-gorban@...>

Yes and one of those had dll files missing on the UK version, and afriend
had to replicate it on 3 different computers before we were listened to,I
still cannot understand how that happened,I was telephoning California and
the remaining tech support was equally baffled it was again the rush to be
in time for windows 7,only think about windows 8!.
