Re: one more Jaws Activation question

Tom:

No it does not.

In other words, if you purchased JAWS 12 and/or you purchased an SMA at the same time or, you have an SMA which covers JAWS 12 or beyond, The installation count will not be affected when you install a later version of JAWS, than the one you are currently using.

Subject: one more Jaws Activation question

Hello again, everyone.

I successfully convinced the folks at FS to re-set my activation count back to 3, so it looks like I am now all set in that regard.

However, I have one more question about the activation process:

If I upgrade from Jaws 11 to Jaws 12 on a computer that already has Jaws 11, does the upgrade count against my number of available activations? In other words, each time I upgrade from Jaws 11 to 12, do I loose an activation?

Thanks!

Tom in Michigan

What do I enter in the list box to get baseball scores? I tried Cubs, then chicago, and then blank, tabbed to MLB scores, and got no results.

Re: Accessible software with JAWS there can read information about wireless network

Hello there;

Not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try;

Putting icons back into the SystemTray.

Here are some steps I wrote quite a while ago, regarding this topic to
another list.

try these steps to get your network icon back into the system tray.

1, start menu;

2, setting/control panel;

3, t= taskbar and start menu, press enter.
If your using Xp, you just need to tab until you hear,
hide inactive icons, the box should be unchecked, so press spacebar to check

this box.
you will now see customize dialog button. The next 3 steps are for vista
users.
4, shift tab one time, you should hear,
taskbar tab.
5, right arrow until you hear;
Notification area tab.
6, tab one time you should hear;
Hide inactive icons this is unchecked, press spacebar to check.
7, tab enter on,
Icons customize....
8, now, down arrow until you hear,
Network connection,
right arrow, a combo box will open,
down arrow to show.
9, now tab, and enter on okay.

this should get your icon back into the system tray.
these same steps will apply, if you want to remove a icon from your system
tray.

Kerri,

Have you installed Firefox 6? I have no experience with that version for a
reason I'll explain in a moment.

In terms of JAWS, I don't recall needing to make any adjustments for
Firefox
3 and 4. I assume, without knowing for a fact, that Firefox 6 and JAWS
work
well together.

If you explore the Mozilla website, you'll find references to many, many
add-ons that can enhance your experience. These have to do with
synchronizing your Firefox and IE favorites, PDF files, Adobe Flash and
more.

Many of us started using Firefox because of Webvisum, which deciphered
so-called CAPTIA, or image codes, that many websites use for security
purposes. Webvisum never worked with IE. However, Webvisum hasn't been
updated for versions 5 and 6, and the people at Webvisum haven't been
responding to queries.

I think the issue is more the number of activations rather than the number of machines. The two don't necessarily corolate i.e. someone who is always tweaking and playing around with their one machine and doing potentially risky things with it as far as testing software etc might need to use more activations than someone with three PCs which are carefully managed and only used for business critical reasons and therefore unlikely to reactivate very often.

Yes the person who is playing and tweaking could back up and take precautions but at the end of the day it's their PC and they should be able to manage it however they want.

no, they don't necessarily do this, dongles don't cover every situation.

I may need to run up to three of my machines at a time for

is currently going on on each of them.

and FS already knows about my setup and as long as they don't get
authorization requests from different locations from me or no more than two

Steve, a small objection from one who has requested new activations only

indicate usage outside the terms of our agreement with FS. However, it's
clear that many people here need activations for reasons to do with the

Regarding activations, does a single-license Jaws user like myself

or is the allotted number of 3 activations constant across all

I am getting a couple of new computers set up for both office and

I have Jaws 12, but a few earlier versions of Jaws that I could

Thanks!

Tom,

I've always found it advantageous to re-create this shortcut for any new
version. Like many JAWS users, I have a few versions on my system because
later ones broke what previously worked. Each time I install a new version
(i.e., 10, 11, 12), I assign the j shortcut to it and reassign other
shortcuts to older versions.

Hi, again.

I just thought of one more question here.

What is the best way to transfer the Alt Control J shortcut to Jaws 12 from
Jaws 11, when doing the upgrade process?

I seem to recall having a problem with this once before in earlier upgrades,
and can't remember how to resolve it.

All I remember is that I had great difficulty transferring the shortcut over
to the new version of Jaws from the earlier version.

I would have thought that the "merge utilities" function would have taken
care of this, but it didn't in my earlier upgrade efforts.

Thanks for putting up with all my questions lately.

inthane <inthaneelf@...>

no, they don't necessarily do this, dongles don't cover every situation.

I may need to run up to three of my machines at a time for synchronization and coordination, and they all need to talk so I know what is currently going on on each of them.

and FS already knows about my setup and as long as they don't get authorization requests from different locations from me or no more than two locations all is fine.

Gerald:

Not so fast there!

I work as a college professor, and need a PC for my normal office work, and a laptop when in the classroom or when traveling.

So, that's two computers for work.

Then, at home, I have my main PC, but like to have a back-up, just in case I experience a
system crash like I did a few weeks ago.

So, I use three computers mainly in my personal and professional life, but have the fourth as a back-up to call into service as needed.

Steve, a small objection from one who has requested new activations only
twice in nearly two decades. Agreed, requesting a lot of activations could
indicate usage outside the terms of our agreement with FS. However, it's
clear that many people here need activations for reasons to do with the
number of systems they have, the hardware upgrades they install, the
occasional mistakes they make, and so on. FS has a right to protect its
revenue source, but it does come at a cost to customers of the unrestricted

Hi, all.

I'm between computers here, and have a question about Jaws activation
counts.

I know I could call FS about this, but figured I might get a quicker
answer from the list.

Regarding activations, does a single-license Jaws user like myself
have a given number of activations for each separate version of Jaws,
or is the allotted number of 3 activations constant across all
versions of Jaws collectively?

I am getting a couple of new computers set up for both office and
home, and

am trying to figure out how best to proceed, while still keeping an
older Windows XP machine around as a back-up in case that is needed as
well.

I have Jaws 12, but a few earlier versions of Jaws that I could
probably use if neded, if that would give me more activations to work
with.

Thanks!

Hello there;

The easiest way is to,

1, go to start menu, you will hear, search box edit,
Type in, theme, you then will hear;
Change the theme press enter.
Now you have landed in the list of themes,

The trick is now to find the classic theme,
You will need to use your arrow keys,

Once you hear jaws announce classic theme, press enter, you
should hear a
sound, signifying the change, now alt+f4,

This is mostlikely the easier way,
This can also be done through the personalized items.
Through the desktop.

Hope this helps.

Actually?

Things should work fine right out of the box.

The only change you may want, is to set the theme to classic,
thus taking
the
Desktop out of the alt+tab cycle.

Other wise?
Things should work just fine,
And really no need to navigate since you can find things
through the

In my case I haven't had as many activations as FS claims. I only use JAWS
on both of my PCs and no where else. The only times I've had activations has
been when I've restored my PC back and fitted new hardware. Some of the
times I've restored my PC back has been due to issues with JAWS and trying
to resolve them. A more sensible approach from FS would be to have JAWS send
once a day a message to FS giving the IP address of the computer then they
would be able to see that it was being used in the location it was intended
for and wouldn't be an issue. For those who don't want FS to have that
information they can just remain as they are.

We pay a lot of money for the software to say the least. I appreciate FS
want to protect themselves from piracy but I am sure that such a strict
policy on activations is what has caused some to go down the route of piracy
(mine is a fully paid for version and I do not condone piracy in the
slightest).

FF 6 works well with Jaws 11 and up. In fact, the address bar
works in FF
6
again.

Hello. Yes, I have installed fox 6 because that is the only one
I know of
and I did so in a pinch. The synchronizing was my next question
since I
don't know how to import my favorites or anything else with fox
but I'll
quit bugging you now. Grin.

Kerri,

Have you installed Firefox 6? I have no experience with that
version for a
reason I'll explain in a moment.

In terms of JAWS, I don't recall needing to make any
adjustments for
Firefox
3 and 4. I assume, without knowing for a fact, that Firefox 6
and JAWS
work
well together.

If you explore the Mozilla website, you'll find references to
many, many
add-ons that can enhance your experience. These have to do with
synchronizing your Firefox and IE favorites, PDF files, Adobe
Flash and
more.

Many of us started using Firefox because of Webvisum, which
deciphered
so-called CAPTIA, or image codes, that many websites use for
security
purposes. Webvisum never worked with IE. However, Webvisum
hasn't been
updated for versions 5 and 6, and the people at Webvisum
haven't been
responding to queries.

Hello, all. I'm new to Firefox and was inquiring whether or not
there are
any settings needed to optimize fire fox with jaws? Thanks and
have a
great
day.

You're supposed to enter date as a two digit day, two digit month and 4 digit year, but Baseball scores are down the contract with ESPN expired and then they haven't worked since june at least.

What do I enter in the list box to get baseball scores? I tried
Cubs, then chicago, and then blank, tabbed to MLB scores, and got no results.

Hi Elf,

Problem mostly solved, so I'm happy. Jaws key + Z did the trick.

Thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim,

I am really sorry, but I don't have a clue! You can try Keyboard Help,
Jaws
Key + 1, on the number row, & play around with keystrokes to try & find it
or, wait until someone comes along with the correct keystroke. Take care.

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for that info!! I'm using a laptop, though, so don't have a
separate number pad... any idea what the laptop keystroke may be?

Thanks again!

Warmest,
Kim

As was already said, this isn't a topic appropriate for the list. Blindtech
might be a more appropriate venue for a question of this nature. The
subscription info can be provided if required.

Dear list,

What web hoasting companies have any of you used successfully? Wondering
which ones are the best. Thanks
