Re: My IT Lab .com

Brandon McGinty

Michael,
If you would like, I will try to contact MyItLab directly tomorrow, and see if I can get a demo account, and discuss the product's accessibility with the product rep.
I would be glad to report back to you, hopefully with good news.
I'm a Security auditor and programmer, and am in between jobs; I would like to help wit this.
Please let me know off-list if I should pursue this.
If so, please give me the names of the classes you are taking, so that I can refer to them when speaking to the rep.

Sincerely,
Brandon McGinty-Carroll

Re: Eudora 7.1.0.9 Download Link

Pat Byrne

Paul,
I have had no experience with the unlock procedure but have installed Eudora on a number of computers. It has always worked for me! I've not taken any of the extra things that are offered and I have wound up with a working Eudora with a short cut on the desktop. So you would likely be okay with the installation. And great for a person's self confidence.

Hello Ben and all,

I would regard myself as a computing beginner in many ways, so please forgive me if this sounds rather simple. I have 2 questions:

1. Does the link given for Eudora below, download the program to the Desktop, to be installed later, or does the link initiate the installation process? My reason for asking is, that if it is the latter, and something goes wrong, I have to wait quite some time before sighted assistance can rescue matters. My one and only previous attempt to install a program failed badly, causing total laptop failure, which sighted help eventually put right.

2. What does the phrase, "unlock the full mode", mean, and as this sounds like action must be taken, can you outline the stepsplease?

Paul Benson.

Bill,

While Eudora lives on in open-source, the last version produced by
Qualcom is Eudora 7.1.0.9 and that version is very accessible with
JAWS, something that I do not believe is true of the newer
open-source versions.

Happily, Eudora 7.1.0.9 works fine with Windows 7 and Qualcom has
graciously provided the following code to unlock the full mode without cost:

RegFirstNamePro= Paid_Mode_No_Support
RegLastNamePro=Without_X1_Search
RegCodePro=4352-4846-7641-3881

You may download Eudora from

Re: results of how to activate audio in safe mode

inthane <inthaneelf@...>

I do believe the number of arrow downs for "safe mode launch" can vary with the machine's manufacturer and what they have installed , I'll ask some folks around here to see if I can check on that part.

and as far as the rest goes its:
1. install the registry file
2. if your not in safe mode, start your computer in that mode when needed (or if you want to check on this things operations).
3. plug in your USB headphones or speakers (I'm going to try it with a USB sound card I have and see if that works also).
4. start the un-mirrored screen reader file running (this can be accomplished with the run command so should be easy enough if you know the path, I'd make a point to learn it for such troubleshooting use!.

--- this is all that it takes as far as I understand it...

there used to be a method somewhat like this for windows 95 98, me and I think, don't mark me on this but I think 2000 (maybe 2000)
I had a file on a floppy a dos bat file that loaded the sound card driver for the machine, and then started jaws running. it didn't work well since the safe mode drivers were very minimal and jaws was touchy about them even back then, but it did work for light maintained and essential file removal and application trashing, anti-virus work and the like.

HTH,
elf
I'm going to run this on one of my XP machines with a USB sound card I have and see how it goes, I'll use one of the other machines sitting here to write down the safe mode loading instructions as I go and give them out to the list and put them with an updated version of the "sound in safe mode" registry file that I will be putting on my site for permanent download.

Early versions of Firefox didn't start out as accessible, so FS deserves
credit. Like you, Chris, I now rely mostly on IE but for specific tasks,
above all CAPTIA with Webvisum.

Yep, at least in my experience with it, Firefox is about as accessible as
Internet Explorer. It comes down to a matter of preference, which one you
like better. The one advantage with Firefox is being able to use the
Webvisum add-on to solve capchas, along with labelling page elements and
sharing those labels automatically with other users.

I'm finding with Facebook and JAWS 12 that IE9 is much more responsive than Firefox 6. In fact I've been very impressed how accessible the main facebook site is now and it's very much like using an application as JAWS is reading alerts and letting me know when things pop up etc.

No question is too out there when you're just learning. Keep at it, you'll

Reading Kindle books with Jaws voice?

Matthew Bullis <matthewbullis@...>

So I've downloaded the Kindle software with the accessibility plug-in:
www.amazon.com/kindle/accessibility
and am informed that if the book I choose has text to speech disabled, then Jaws will read the book. I've not come across a book yet that has the tts disabled, so the program uses the voices which are built in. My question then is can you turn off the two internal voices and use the voice from Jaws if you want to, or only when the tts option is not available?
Thanks a lot.
Matthew

I have no idea how it will behave on your computer, with whatever other software you have. Personally, if I need Webvisum or something else that Firefox seems to do better, I fire up Firefox. If not, I fire up the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer, since often, I find it easier to access flash content that way.
