JAWS dictionary

Joni Colver <earlybird@...>

I am currently using a work computer with JAWS 6 installed on it. I am
apparently going to be getting a new computer from my employer, and I know a
later version of JAWS will be installed, although I don't know which one. I
have a lot of dictionary entries in the JAWS 6 version and I really need
them for work. Is there any way I can copy that file from the current work
computer and put it into the new version of JAWS when I receive that
computer? I don't know if it would be possible or wise to put a JAWS 6 jdf
file into JAWS 11 or 12 or whatever version of JAWS I am going to work with.

If this is not possible, is there a way I can get a list of the dictionary
entries onto the clipboard and paste them somewhere so I know what I have
added, or will I have to arrow through the list one by one and write them
down? That could be quite a task. Thanks in advance for any help.

Joni

You're in Word? Alt-down arrow should do it.

I have not figured out why I seem to get "stuck" in the tool bar. I'm
running 13 now but seemed to have the same problem with 12. Sometimes I
can
just hit tab a few times and get down into the page, other times hitting
tab
just cycles through the toolbar. Somtimes switching to the virtual cursor
helps, other times nothing helps.

Hi All. This new job doesn't seem to be working out. They've scheduled a
phone call tomorrow. They sent me a copy of our original accommodations
letter which doesn't state that they'll do whatever they can to accomodate
me, even if it means paying for a JAWS script to make their platform
accessible. I told them over the phone that I wouldn't know if I could do
the work until they installed the software and gave it a try but who cares.
If I didn't write that out in legal language it doesn't count. The new JAWS
13 seems to have brought new issues with it in some cases so it's hard to
know who to blame, as if assigning blame would help at this point.

My stomach is in knots. I hope I'm not screwed but until that hopey changey
stuff kicks in, reckon I'll be living in a cardboard box on the street.

Re: jaws and excel

Dave...

Hina,

Don't know about the Outlook question, but go to JAWS/help/training
You'll find some excellent tutorials on Excel. Also if you accept updates in
JAWS/help/check for updates you'll likely see some Daisy files on the
subject, as well.

Also in Microsoft outlook 2010, if there are two accounts how can we switch

Thanks.

Re: not good

Adrian Spratt

Brian,

I'll risk this one off-topic reply out of concern for your predicament. Keep
in mind that the Americans with Disabilities Act's accommodations are not a
contractual matter. So don't get cornered into an impossible position based
on the contract.

I'd also urge you to assume the best. Start working with the software. Don't
hold yourself back for fear that it might not work for you. If you do run
into problems with it, people on this list will help, and they've already
responded to your earlier queries. FS will almost certainly also help.
Contact Brian Carver there. He has shown many JAWS users a willingness to
extend himself and FS's resources.

If worst comes to worst, contact the American Council of the Blind, in
Washington, D.C., or your local ACB affiliate. There's also the American
Association of Visually Impaired Attorneys, AAVIA, which is affiliated with
ACB.

Good luck to you.

Subject: getting stuck in the tool bar

I have not figured out why I seem to get "stuck" in the tool bar. I'm
running 13 now but seemed to have the same problem with 12. Sometimes I
can
just hit tab a few times and get down into the page, other times hitting
tab
just cycles through the toolbar. Somtimes switching to the virtual cursor
helps, other times nothing helps.

jaws and excel

Hina Altaf <haltaf@...>

Hi,
Does anyone know from where to get a free tutorial of excel with jaws?
Also in Microsoft outlook 2010, if there are two accounts how can we switch from one to another?
Thanks.
Hina.

Re: getting stuck in the tool bar

Dave...

Ed,

No, Ctrl+F6 has worked consistently since I learned about it. It's a
life-saver. FS really should put together a "tips and trick" seminar or
posting to their site. Perhaps add it to their Surf's Up presentation.

Just tried f-6. It did nothing. Control plus f-6, however, worked just
fine. Of course, perhaps that was more accident than anything else. This
is definitely a flakey problem.

f6, maybe, that sometimes gets me out.

I've also cursed at the whole IE interface every time I get "stuck" up
there
in that area. I've turned off everything I can think of and still there are
elements that grab my cursor if I'm careless enough to tab beyond the
bottom
of a page.

Don't know any answers, as it's more to do with IE7 and IE8 layout than
JAWS.

Re: One problem I'm encountering with the new jaws.

Dave...

Mike,

In the settings center, enter the word copy and you'll come up with a
setting that might help. Here's the description of that setting:

This option controls whether or not JAWS will use the Text Selection and
Copy Commands from the Web browser, e-mail software, or other owner of a
virtual document.
With the "From Virtual Cursor" setting, text is copied as plain text without
formatting, pictures, and HTML attributes.
With the "Full Content Using Onscreen Highlight" setting, the text and
elements you select are highlighted onscreen as you press selection keys
from the keyboard just as it would be in programs like Word Processors. The
content is then copied with all formatting.
The default setting is Full content using onscreen highlight.

Hi folks! I am having problems copying and pasting text from a web-site to
a document. Not sure why, but I've never experienced this with other jaws
versions. Other than this, jfw 13 works fairly well for me.
