JAWS dictionary
Joni Colver <earlybird@...>
I am currently using a work computer with JAWS 6 installed on it. I am
apparently going to be getting a new computer from my employer, and I know a later version of JAWS will be installed, although I don't know which one. I have a lot of dictionary entries in the JAWS 6 version and I really need them for work. Is there any way I can copy that file from the current work computer and put it into the new version of JAWS when I receive that computer? I don't know if it would be possible or wise to put a JAWS 6 jdf file into JAWS 11 or 12 or whatever version of JAWS I am going to work with. If this is not possible, is there a way I can get a list of the dictionary entries onto the clipboard and paste them somewhere so I know what I have added, or will I have to arrow through the list one by one and write them down? That could be quite a task. Thanks in advance for any help. Joni

You're in Word? Alt-down arrow should do it.

Don't know about the Outlook question, but go to JAWS/help/training You'll find some excellent tutorials on Excel. I'll risk this one off-topic reply out of concern for your predicament. Keep in mind that the Americans with Disabilities Act's accommodations are not a contractual matter. So don't get cornered into an impossible position based on the contract. I'd also urge you to assume the best. Start working with the software. Don't hold yourself back for fear that it might not work for you. If you do run into problems with it, people on this list will help, and they've already responded to your earlier queries. FS will almost certainly also help. Contact Brian Carver there. He has shown many JAWS users a willingness to extend himself and FS's resources. If worst comes to worst, contact the American Council of the Blind, in Washington, D.C., or your local ACB affiliate. There's also the American Association of Visually Impaired Attorneys, AAVIA, which is affiliated with ACB. Good luck to you.

In the settings center, enter the word copy and you'll come up with a setting that might help. Here's the description of that setting: This option controls whether or not JAWS will use the Text Selection and Copy Commands from the Web browser, e-mail software, or other owner of a virtual document. With the "From Virtual Cursor" setting, text is copied as plain text without formatting, pictures, and HTML attributes. With the "Full Content Using Onscreen Highlight" setting, the text and elements you select are highlighted onscreen as you press selection keys from the keyboard just as it would be in programs like Word Processors. The content is then copied with all formatting. The default setting is Full content using onscreen highlight. Dave Carlson Sent from my Dell Latitude E6520 using Windows 7, San Francisco Bay Area
