Don't uninstall it. There are workarounds. Especially if you're using the
newest build of JFW, the scripts do work well for me. I'm running Windows
XP Pro SP3, all updates and such installed with latest versions of both
ITunes and JAWS as well as release 45 of the iTunes scripts from
blindtunes.net.

yes its made by a fellow on another list I am on, let me find the link...

ok here is the announcement Email with a live and working (I tested it just
before I sent this) link

Hi,

I have made a few updates to MaestroTranslate, that tools that can be used
for translating text with Google.

1. The program is now multi-threaded, so the interface can be used while the

program is translating a long document. It doesn't freeze anymore.

2. The program displays a progress bar that shows the percentage of the
translated text, which is helpful when translating long documents.

3. The translated text is displayed in the destination text field
continuously, and it can be read while the program translates the rest of
the document.

4. The program has a "Stop" button that can be used for stopping the
translation of the current text, which might be utile sometimes for long
documents.

5. Zlatko Sobocan created improved JAWS scripts for MaestroTranslate, and
now the installation and configuration of these scripts can be done much
easier.

At the installation time (or later), the program ask you to choose the
hotkey you want to use for translation and the hotkey for configuration.
The hotkey for translation is the one you can use to translate the word at
the cursor or the selected text, and the hotkey for configuration is the one

you could use to choose the source and destination languages and other
options (and it will appear a wizard that will let you make the choice).

These scripts are installed automatically when you install MaestroTranslate,

and you can uninstall them without uninstalling the program. They are
uninstalled when you will uninstall the program.

The interface of these scripts is also localized. You can change its locale
by changing the current language of the MaestroTranslate's interface (and
then press Control+JawsKey+Escape to re-initialize the scripts).
The localization may change the language of the spoken messages, the names
of the languages and possibly their order (in the lists displayed in that
configuration wizard).

6. I have solved a few bugs that were making the translation of long
documents very hard. I have also solved a bug that prevented the translation

using the JAWS scripts on the first or even second trial right after the
computer has been restarted.
I have also solved a bug that prevented translating the current word pointed

with the JAWS cursor.

I have added a few details for installation in the readme file and much more

things in the help files of the program.

You can download it from:

http://www.tranzactiibursiere.ro/maestro/translate/

Octavian

so there you go its a desktop application that uses google translation and I

have found it to work well so far,

Re: Google Chrome

Kirsten Edmondson <kirsten.edmondson@...>

This is what I found out after I downloaded Chrome, I hope it is not off
topic and is helpful to some.
As far as I can tell, Google Chrome is ok, the welcome screen is a bit
annoying but if you tab once it seems to put you on link to google.co.uk
which if you then press enter on you go to the standard page from where you
can access all the usual google items. I'm not sure all the buttons on the
welcome page are labelled as it just says numbers so I think we miss out on
things like translate. The address bar is called "location" and that was a
bit confusing at first but that's definitely where you type in your address,
using alt plus D also takes you to this location box.
Putting in the address into this box does work as I got onto a page I wanted
using it. It was quick to load too (which is one of its promises).
I know these things are a much of a muchness, but as someone who has always
used IE since the advent of it, (and safari on my iphone) I don't see a
major problem with it. The download was very quick
and the installation did itself and you will have a link to it on your
desktop. I think you can probably set it to be your default browser if you
want (actually i think it sets itself which could be a bit irritating),. I'm
not sure how things like cookies work as I noticed when trying to use it to
log into somewhere I couldn't get my username which I used to be able to get
it to autofill by using the arrows.
This could be annoying, but I guess there must be an autocomplete option
somewhere. The menu works by pressing alt and it reads downwards instead of
across. It has similar things to IE but of course you need to import your
bookmarks (favourites) as it's a different browser.
There is an options setting but it's structured like a webpage and the
categories for clicking on don't come up as links, also I found I had to use
the insert/escape keys to refresh when I wanted a different page when I was
changing the settings but that's probably to do with my jaws settings. It's
accessible enough though not fullproof.
Kirsten.

Re: [Bulk] Google Chrome

Brandon Keith (Biggs) <brandonboy13@...>

Does anyone know if Google has blind workers on their accessibility teem?
Some of the accessibility options they give are the strangest I have ever seen.
Escape to start menus? That's not obvious, escape is to exit. Plus Jaws probably has something to do with most of the keys that stops them from working on many of the key commands.
Also when they try developing screen readers they don't even have the option to switch voices, the default Sappi voice is the one you're stuck with...
I think they would have a much easier time if they had a blind person directing the program to make accessibility for screen readers. If they do, I'd like to know what screen reader they're using, because it's not Jaws...

Re: Jaws and E-Books

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

Ebook is a generic term. Heck, we used to just call them textfiles, and get them from places like Project Gootenberg.

Some formats require special software and others such as pdf files only require Acrobat Reader.

Hi
I think this is Jaws related because I want to use Jaws. If there are
E-Books, do they always need a reader to read them or can you read them on
the computer? Thanks for any help.

Is there anybody using jaws with Spotify?
if so, what are your thoughts?
I have some scripts to make jaws read the highlighted list items, and allows jaws to lower or raise the volume.

Re: [Bulk] Google Chrome

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

OK.
There is an accessibility page, and even a set of screen-reader users "help" instructions that Google furnishes. I can furnish the Web address for anyone really interested. Google doesn't mention which screen-reader allegedly works with Google Docs.
If, however, one attempts the commands that Google suggests, one discovers that they just don't work.
For instance, pressing ESCAPE in a Google Docs document is supposed to turn on the menu options. This just doesn't work.
Because I have a client who insists on using Google Docs, I spent some time researching this.
Freedom Scientific pronounced Google Docs inaccessible and didn't indicate it had any plans to do anything about it. Freedom Scientific blamed Google, as did the other screen reader makers.
I called G.W. Micro (I have an up-to-date version of Window-Eyes). I was told the same thing by a person that I recognize as someone on the help/development team at G.W. Micro.
At Serotech, I was switched over from general customer support to someone identified as a developer, he said that he was aware of no screen reader that works (or even could work) with Google Docs.
So, the message Google was putting out about Google Docs was flatly inconsistent with the story I got from three of the major screen-reader makers.
From that, I've inferred that one cannot accept Google's claims of accessibility at face value.

Not sure I understood what you were trying to say. Are you saying that
Google says it's accessible? With version 12 of JAWS? What does Freedom
Scientific have to say?

on Google's accessibility page, as far as i am not mistaken, from the
version of 2158 of 12, it says that it is supported.

Does this work ok with Jaws 12 (latest update)? As far as everyone knows.
I wondered if I might sort out some of my jaws issues if I tried something
other than IE as my browser. I know firefox 6 has come out today and I
wasn't sure to get that or not because of it being the latest version I
didn't know how stable that would be with jaws either.
Any thoughts on Chrome or Firefox 6 would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Kirsten.

FF6 will work fine with Jaws. I'm running it now. Only difference is that you'll be without a status bar, until you install the Status-4-Ever extention.
