How does one reset user dialog items to default? I could not find that in settings center.

I wonder what happens if one deletes everything in the user folder including all the sub folders. Would Jaws recreate them or would this really mess it up? For example: PersistenceLevelInfo.ini SettingsCenter.ini Classic.SMF PlaceMarkers File Folder PersonalizedSettings File Folder Sounds File Folder transient-session File Folder transient-focus File Folder

Jaws 11 / Focus 40 BT
Richard Holloway
My daughter has been using her FS Focus 40 BT in uncontracted braille mode with Jaws 11 for quite a while, but she had use one before in contracted mode. I believe she said it always displays contracted but she has to type uncontracted. I actually didn't realize the keyboard was running uncontracted as she flies along pretty quickly and it looks the same to confused sighted parents like myself trying to keep track of our braille-using kids.
Can someone tell me how to toggle between contracted and uncontracted (grade 2 / grade 1) please? I suspect it is a simple keystroke, but I'm not finding the solution in the print manual, nor does my third grader see it in the braille version. (She's actually often able to find things like this for herself.) Thanks so much for any help with this.

Is this another getting stuck in the tool bar?
Lisa D. Porter <lisaporter429@...>
Hi all,
I came into this late, so this may be a different thing, but please bear with me and help if you can as it's very annoying. I'm using JAWS 12.0.1170 with either IE 9.0.8112.16421 or Firefox 7.0.1 on a Windows 7 Home Premium Dell laptop. Now, that the preliminaries are out of the way, here's the issue. I can go into IE with no problems, but when I try to go into Firefox either straight in or from a link in an email, I hear the page name followed by menu use left or right arrow to navigate, but left, right, up, down, f6, control f6 do nothing. I have to hit the alt key and hear the usual file menu message then I have to hit it again to hear leaving menu and I'm on the page. Also, I might add, It is almost impossible to access the file menu with just the press of the alt key. I have to go through many steps and some of them involve routing cursors and hitting the left mouse button. Is this a Mozilla Firefox, Windows 7, Dell laptop, JAWS or something else issue? Is there a fix or am I crazy? Thanks. Lisa

due. People like Negoslav, you and others post good information, a and recognition is owed. As you imply, it isn't as if the real source of a good idea is going to get paid. Presumably, the answer to whether a single key Can be assigned to perform the function of control-F6 requires an MS, not a JAWS, solution. Note that F6 appears to rotate from the toolbar to the address bar to the main window and back to the toolbar, etc. Control-F6 simply cuts out the rotation.

And thanks to everyone else for your input. I realize that my description is rather vague, but given the randomness of the occurrence, it's about as specific as I can be. My hope in contacting FS was two fold: first that if perhaps they had heard the same report from others that there might have been a more solid solution. second, that if they do hear the same report in future that they might investigate something more conclusive than "try deleting your settings." I appreciate all the ideas that were offered. K

Re: What kind of tech support is that?
Richard Holloway
Respectfully, even if it didn't fix your problem that sort of thing is what is recommended to do first even when a lot of info is available with most electronic system problems.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Some problems may have more than one cause and it is not always practical to chase some specific detailed remedy before trying things like rebooting hardware or clearing out settings, preferences or the like. Failing to clear out questionable settings first may waste a lot of time or even introduce additional problems as you continue to troubleshoot. I'm no FS expert by amy means, but that is what I have found in working with a lot of computers and electronics over the last 30 years or so. The fact that this is a new problem to you or that it may indeed be new with rev 13 doesn't mean clearing the settings would not clear the problem, right? It may be the cure for that or some similar problem with this current release. Richard
