did you do a full shutdown and restart?

sometimes you just have to shut the thing completely down, wait a minute (literally) and then fire it back up and you can see a vast difference

another thing is to make sure all windows are maximized with it.

Subject: yet another problem with JAWS

I have a strange problem with JFW. I reverted back to version 12.0.522
because of my annoying problem with flash with the latest version, but now
when I go to internet explorer and try to do anything JFW won't read
anything. I can't see links, it won't read text, nothing. I can do an insert
f7 to get to the links list box, but I can't see anything on the page.
Tabbing doesn't work either. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've made
sure it was in full screen and did a jaws refresh. JFW 11 doesn't seem to
have this problem. Thanks for any help.

How about trying the completely accessible Google Labs without the
/accessible ending? I just created this results page that way, and it shows
headings, etc.:

http://www.googlelabs.com/

I find google's /accessible versions of its search sites often limiting. For
example, on the regular Google search pages, the /accessible version doesn't
list the number of total hits.

Also, google recently announced that most of the google labs will be going

do a quick google search for something like google labs going away.

For now, you'll have to find other ways to navigate it with jaws.

You type in your search, press enter and when the list of results come up
get this custom google search thing. What I mean is when I try to read the

displayed for labs.google. Man, I hope I am making sense. I cannot move by

Hi, I have JFW 11 installed on this machine also. I didn't uninstall it,

Some others on this list have said that the only way to have JAWS higher

When I re-installed 12.0.525 I re-copied my previous user settings after

I say keep both during install and then overwrite with a backup copy of your

You may benefit by updating to 12.0.1669. However go to
http://www.freedomscientific.com and check the "What's new" and
"Enhancements and Fixes" files to make sure that WLM has been covered in
releases after 12.0.525. I vaguely recall that there have been some

However it's at the expense of screwing up Excel 2007, so be wary before

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I uninstalled everything and tried an
install of the latest version of JFW 12, and it did the same thing as the
previous version of 12 with regards to not reading in internet explorer. I
then uninstalled it, re-installed jfw 12.0.522 and when I checked for
updates it installed the latest version again, and now it reads in internet
explorer, but I'm still having the problem with flash content. I really want
to be using the previous version, but I have no idea why it is not reading
in internet explorer.

Terra,

Some others on this list have said that the only way to have JAWS higher
than 12.0.525 working correctly with Excel is to remove shared and user
settings when installing. I personally find that repugnant.

When I re-installed 12.0.525 I re-copied my previous user settings after
installing, so that I did not lose any of my customized files.

I say keep both during install and then overwrite with a backup copy of your

previous set of files from your user settings.

Terra Syslo <tlsyslo@...>

The latest version isn't working properly with flash, but when I installed
the previous version nothing would read with internet explorer, so I wanted
to see if by updating to the latest version it was fixed, and it did fix the
problem with internet explorer, but not the problems I'm having with flash
content. Doing a clean install of either version leads to the problem of
nothing being read in internet explorer.

Terra,

Now you've confused me.

If you wanted to be using version 12.0.522, then why did you check for
updates? That would download 12.0.1669 and you're back where you started.

Turn off the automatic update feature in the JAWS Options/Basics dialog and
stay with the version you install (in your case 12.0.522).

And like David earlier I don't understand the role that Flash plays in your
decision to go back to 12.0.522.

Re: [Bulk] IE 9 question

Dave...

It doesn't say anything, you say? I guess you meant it doesn't say "64 bit".

Aside from the grammar that you acknowledge, I suspect they are both one and
the same. Just press Alt+Enter on each one and you'll see the underlying
command to launch. I suspect each are the same.

If they are, then delete whichever one offends you.

One says 64-bit and the other one, it doesn't say nothing.

Is there 2 different ones?
Would it be better for one to use with JAWS?

Sorry if that is too dumb a question.

as far as I know, one is 32-bit, the one that just says "internet explorer" on your system.

Re: IE 9 question

Well, sorry. I was not precise.
The one shortcut icon, It says Internet Explorer.
And the other one, it further says, Internet Explorer (64-bit).

I imagined at first that I may have gotten the two icons when I upgraded to version nine, which was several months ago.

But actually when you open the program via either startup icon, you are opening version 9 of the application.

I went to this link. And the top of the page, it says Google Labs was being phased out.
I don't really know what the Labs thing was even. But I was curious and went and looked. There was a ton of other things on the page that Google had and I did not check them out.

So if you would not mind, what is or was Google Labs?
I assume it is not pictures of dogs. <g>

Hi,

The link I have is

Also, google recently announced that most of the google labs will be going
bye bye. Don't know how this will affect the above link and site. Want more,

do a quick google search for something like google labs going away.

For now, you'll have to find other ways to navigate it with jaws.

Hi,

Is anyone using labs.google.com and if so are they experiencing the
following?

You type in your search, press enter and when the list of results come up
get this custom google search thing. What I mean is when I try to read the
results, its like the results from google and not how it normally is
displayed for labs.google. Man, I hope I am making sense. I cannot move by
heading or anything like that. If you understand what I am saying, please
provide a response. If not, go ahead and write back and yell at me and I
will try to explain better off list.

Thankyou.

Re: Update for Windows Live Essentials

ohio1803@...

I also did the update this morning.
So far I have not seen any issues relating to JAWS.
My About says I now have Windows Live Mail version 2011 (Build 15.4.3538.0513)

The only thing that happened to me was that the update changed the Start Menu where programs were listed. It took me awhile to find Windows Live Mail. But it was there.

My update took about 15 minutes and a Restart was required.

I suppose there must be a web page that lists what all was in the update.
If someone has already taken the time to find it, and would post the link, I thank him or her in advance!

Thanks.

Re: [Bulk] JAWS Key/Insert + F11 and F12 Not speaking

Dave...

Make sure that your system tray is enabled. I don't have Win 7 yet, but in
XP you can open properties of the taskbar by using Alt+Enter when on it.

The items in that dialog called "Notification Area" pertain to the system
tray. Also in that dialog you can see if the taskbar is positioned
appropriately.

Again this is XP; perhaps similar in Win 7.
