Cecropia, did you contribute while it was still running? I sure did, since it solved such an annoying problem.

I find that very interesting because whenever I start Firefox I get a
webvisum login error, and as was stated by the OP the webvisum domain
is now expired (if you go to webvisum.com you get a godaddy
placeholder page).

Alternative to Webvisum

Gerald Levy

Now that Webvisum is gone,I'm looking for a captcha solving alternative. Someone on another list suggested Captcha Monster, a paid Firefox add-on that purports to automatically solve image captchas . Does anyone have experience with this Firefox add-on, and is it compatible with JAWS?

jaws losing keyboard support

Bissett, Tom <tom.bissett@...>

Hi, I have been having a problem. Of course it is inconsistent.
I am running XP pro sp3, and jaws 13 latest build.
When I use the windows key + l to lock my computer some times it does just what it is supposed to do. Sometimes when I lock my computer jaws continues to speak but I have no keyboard support.
Has any one else have this experience?
Any thoughts on what might be happening?

Hello, I agree! That new captcha voice is terrible! Also, Why does it
say 2 words when there are more like 5 or 6? What do we do as totally
blind computer users now that webvisum is gone? Is it gone or just
undergoing some kind of upgrade? As a full time internet marketer for
a living myself captcha sucks! At least with webvisum it solved 90% of
my problems but what now? Also, What does it mean when jaws says
application mode? I was trying to fill out a form today but couldn't
get out of this application mode. It seems like forms mode will not
deactivate when I press the pc cursor key.

Re: What Happened To Popular CAPTCHA Solving Tools?

Dave...

Raymond, now that is a very good thought, and I agree that accessibility for
the blind and other disabled users is too often left as an afterthought. It
appears that internet security against hackers and spammers has slammed the
door in our face. So we actually should be railing against the hackers and
spammers for our lack of accessibility.

But their ears are no more deaf to our needs than those of the
security-conscious.

We are hosed, for now.

I think there should be a law that mandates that if you're going to put
audio captchas, they need to be where blind people can understand them.

The reason for the captcha is to prevent automated access to the site. That is also why the sound is so bad. They don't want robots deciphering the words/letters.
Even the visual is not clear so that it is difficult for robots to grasp.

Hi all,
Lately I've noticed that there is a new version of the audio captcha; it has
a different voice set against the muffled background noise. I have a
extremely difficult time understanding this new voice; to me it is very
indistinct. It could be that it is just set at a frequency that I can't hear
as well.
I'm wondering if others have noticed this change, and whether others are
also having a difficult time with it?

And, I still come across captcha fields with no audio or other alternatives.

I know we're beginning to stray off topic here, but to me there very

My intention here is not to make this a politically divisive issue on
a tech list ... But maybe the demise of Webvisum and Solona will
revive interest in The CAPTCHA Project from Towson University. This
is highlighted in a back issue of "The Braille Monitor," flagship
publication of the National Federation of the Blind here in the USA:
http://nfb.org/images/nfb/publications/bm/bm09/bm0901/bm090108.htm
The thought process here is that CAPTCHA can be used to make a Website
both secure and accessible if the Web designers reframe how they think
of this process. Instead of our trying to interpret a garbled visual
image or a distorted series of audible, random alphanumeric
characters, why not permit the user to prove his/her humanity by
identifying a simple sound? You could hear the sound of a cow, of
running water, of a bell or an actor snapping his fingers, and could
simply respond by identifying three or four of these simple signs with
the words representing them. Obviously, for sighted users, a picture
of the same thing could be presented and the sighted user simply could
type what is seen. This would require active intelligence, not just a
mathematical algorithm.

The standard audio CAPTCHA in use today, though better for some blind
people, is still horribly frustrating to those who are deaf-blind or
hard of hearing. So I for one hope that The CAPTCHA Project is alive
and can gain some traction as a result of Webvisum's and Solona's
failure to stay viable.

Re: Windows 7 and the search..

Hi,
When the file is searched, you'll see it under documents heading. Highlight
the file, press Applications key to enter context menu and select "open file
location."
Cheers,
Joseph

Hello, can someone tell me how to find out where the file is located in the
computer when doing a windows key search? Sometimes I loose an e-mail
without deleting it but I can find it to read by pressing the windows key
and searching for it... The problem is, how do you know where it was
found... Thanks so much... Andy

Aria is not a FS application, it is part of a web development process.

It's a new thing that freedom scientific has done called aria.
I forget what it is for though.
