Dondi, go into keyboard help by pressing JawsKey+1, then press JawsKey+Z and pay attention to what it tells you. Press JawsKey+1 again to exit keyboard help.

Hi everyone

On some websites (unfortunately in Danish), I'm out that JAWS say
"application mode on", when I move focus from the website and back again.
After that I can do nothing with JAWS on this website.
Does any know of some websites on English, where JAWS also say "application
mode on", and does any have a solution to how I fix this problem?

I have tried with Internet Explorer 8 and JAWS 11 and 13.

Very thanks.

Regards,
Anders

Hello,

A student of mine created a power point presentation, but when in the slide
mode, JAWS will not read the slides instead it says "not selected). Could
someone please assist with this situation? The student is using Power Point

Hi
Up to now I've been using adobe reader to read all my pdf documents
weather it's saved ebooks on my pc or pdf docs straight from the
internet. My big frustration is the pdf's opening in internet explorer
when clicking a link on the web, this sometimes works out but other
times I can't read the document at all, I just can't get it focused or
something. Does anyone have an idea of a setting or something to make
pdf's open in adobe reader by default and not in internet explorer? Or
alternativly do you know of any other pdf reader I can use?

My numpad also won't speak the JAWS function for the 5 key. I haven't found
a solution. I suppose you could go around to your local Radio Shack and try
different numpads in case one does work correctly. Or maybe someone on the
list has an external numpad that performs all JAWS functions and can post
the model information.

Re: Reading PDF documents frustrating

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

There's also a neat little package known simply as PDF Reader. Those
who have tried Thunder will know what I'm talking about, as it comes
bundled in the same archive file. The controls are pretty basic, but
it's rock steady in PDF mode. You can even make and save changes,
although they have to be saved as either HTML or text. Search
capabilities are almost nonexistent, but the JAWS find should make up
for that. Furthermore, it's not finicky about the size of file you
load, and will simply read, without repetition, glitches, or gotchas.
It's not so stable in HTML format, but that's why The Good Lord made Web
browsers.

I've become a big fan of sending PDF's to Robobraille.org for e-mail
conversion. You can first download the file, then either use the web
form at www.robobraille.org or e-mail the document to
convert@robobraille.org.
You can get the document back in any of several formats including
braille and Word.

In Adobe Reader X bring up the preferences (Edit->Preferences), then on
the Internet page make sure "Display PDF in browser" is not checked.

The layout might be slightly different with other versions but I believe
this particular setting has been fairly stable so it shouldn't be too
hard to find.

Linda,

How about you visit that same web site, and unsubscribe?

Then send yourself a message to the list to see if you still get one.

If you still get one, then you're done.

If you get nothing then wait a couple hours and subscribe again.

Linda,

You need to first go to the web site where you signed up. Make sure that you

have unchecked the "send a copy of my messages to me" (or something
similar)and see if that fixes your problem.

I am receiving 2 copies of every email sent to this list. I assume that I
am registered for the list twice though I don't know how that happened.
I'd appreciate it if the moderator/list owner would remove one entry so that
I only receive one copy. This list has quite a bit of mail as it is without
getting it double!

Thanks !!

Linda

Dondi,

If you received Jaws 13, then all updates should be free up until version
14.

Hi Everybody,

I just installed JAWS 13 last Monday and as soon as my version was all
registered and legal it said there was an update do I want to install it.
Of
course I said yes, but now I got questions. Are updates to 13 free? I ask
because of my situation I have no registration keys, so how did JAWS
update
it's self? And if updates are free, are they free all the way up too and
then stop at version14?

Re: background color

Zaheer Sheikh <cybergeek2020@...>

No, jaws cannot read the background color. However, you can select html
color code from the following website, and then use that color code
for background color.

This website is very jaws friendly, Jaws reads color type and its html code.
http://www.computerhope.com/htmcolor.htm

If you have any other questions, you can e-mail me off list.

Hope this helps,

Zaheer Sheikh

The jaws+5 command only works for programs that use the most basic
rendering mode that windows offers. Firefox for instance uses
something else and so jaws+5 isn't going to work. I believe in the
specific case of FF that there are probably page development add-ins
that will tell you that sort of thing but don't know for certain and
so can make no recommendations.

Hello:

Do we have any blind folk here who design their own webpages? If so, can
you please raise your hand? My question with jaws is does it read the
background color for you after making the change? If so, how did you do
it?

I press jaws key five and it says a color that isn't what I selected.

Thanks.
