Have you tried restarting your computer? I get this sometimes at work and restarting seems to clear it up.

While doing some testing on some software, I noticed on another computer
that it doesn't read the minimize maximize and close button symbols at the
top of the window, it only reading the title of the window. This window does
not close with alt+F4 either and I need to click the close button. It is
doing this for all applications on this system so the JAWS cursor doesn't
see the buttons. Has anyone encountered this issue and possibly a fix?
Thanks in advance,
John Martyn

I recall writing some stupid script for powerDVD. It wasn't the new one,
but
I recall there were some shortcuts that you could use. Can't remember off
the top of my head what they were, but it worked with basic functionality.
No fast forward or rewind or anything.

Hello there;
Knowing the computer is only 10 months old, I highly doubt junking it would

I think saying that is a real cop out, not wanting to deal with the issues.

Re: Lost Menues

Dave...

Mike,

I don't think a lightning strike would make some minues disappear. It may
scramble a computer's memory and processor chips to cause them to not
operate at all, or even cause abhorrent misspellings of certain words; but
something like that is too close to divine intervention against Microsoft
for me to take seriously.

Also I'm shocked, shocked I say that FS would actually tell someone to junk
their computer.

This second-hand communication with someone else's second-hand report of a
conversation is getting us nowhere quickly.

Hi Again,

Here is Fred's reply;
Thanks for the Full Screen suggestion but I just got off the phone with
Freedomscientific and a tech ran a repair and worked on the computer for
sometime and couldn't fix the problem. I have had lots of problems with
this computer since I have had it. And it is about 10 months old. I live
in Central Fla. And had a lightening strike that took out TV sets, phones
etc and I believe it also damaged the computer. This is the 2nd time
that Freedomscientific has told me that this computer should be junked.
I guess I'll have to do some thinking.

not having any problems with Outlook 2010, just with the rest of the
operating system. I have sent Fred Darran's suggestion & asked him if
ribbons are used exclusively in Outlook 2010 as well. I'll let y'all know
what happens. Thanks again, take care.

I suspect so, as MS intends to cover the entire world with ribbons some day.
But I didn't want to guess at an answer.

I further suspect that Mr. Fred Adams might havfe recently been confronted

We shall see, perhaps.

System restore and JAWS

Dondi

Hi Everyone,

I'm running Windows 7 and JAWS 13. When I go to the System restore
application in Windows JAWS reads the date and time for the restore points
but not the description or the type. Both the description and type are
visible on the same line with the date and time their just in different
columns, I just had a sighted friend verify this for me. Has anyone seen
this or know how to make JAWS say everything associated with a restore
point?

Hi Again,

Here is Fred's reply;

Hi,

I have used VLC ever since I uninstalled Power DVD because it only had one

I recall writing some stupid script for powerDVD. It wasn't the new one, but
I recall there were some shortcuts that you could use. Can't remember off
the top of my head what they were, but it worked with basic functionality.
No fast forward or rewind or anything.

Adrian,

This old dinosaur saw that the sender (not Mike) referred separately to the
Tools ninue, Application nimue, Options minue, and Alt minue. Henceforth my
question in attempt to clarify. I need more details before I can help Mr.
Fred Adams.

So far no one has come forth from the Jurassic period to say whether Outlook
2010 uses ribbons exclusively, or if it's still a hybrid of minues and
ribons. I sure don't know.

[sic] repeatedly above, BTW.

Dave, as a long-time JAWS abuser, to allude to Mike's touching phrase, you
know from the dinosaur age, where I still live, that pressing alt brings up
what are often called the file menus, which are actually file, edit, view,
tools, help, etc. I expect this is what Mike means.

Mike,

Too vague. Did this person just switch over to Outlook 2010 recently? That
might be the explanation.

In Outlook 2007, Tools is Alt+t, and Options is "O". But I think 2010 is all
ribbons now. Someone please confirm.

also don't know what an "Alt" minue is.

Hi All,

I am posting this question for a fellow Jaws abuser, in an effort to get him
back up & running.

I am using windows 7, jaws 13.0 and outlook 2010 and I have lost my
minues in windows 7 for tools and tools options minue, the alt minue
and
applications minue. I have gone through my settings several times and
can't find anything. I have also rebooted a couple of times but no
luck.
Outlook 2010 seems to be OK as best I can tell. I will appreciate any
help on this as I am baffeled. Thanks much,
FRED ADAMS W4HC
