Hello.

They have just upgraded me at work to Adobe Reader X from Adobe Reader
9.

Now when I load a document, I can't read anything.

When I do a down arrow it just says blank.

It is not an OCR thing since I could read the same document with Adobe
Reader 9.

Any ideas if there are particular settings under preferences that I need
to set in order for me to be able to read .PDF documents?

I am using Jaws 12.1169.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Eric.

Re: creating mp3's of EloQuence and RealSpeak readings

Dean Martineau <dean@...>

Really? Those programs have access to the proprietary JAWS synthesizers?
Windows does not show those synthesizers, since generally outside programs
do not have access to them. There used to be an Italian program that gave
access to JAWS synthesizers and allowed for creating mp3 files, but I can't
remember the name and don't know if it works on windoes7.

Have you considered using TextaloudMP3 or Balabolka? Both will do what you

On a win7 32-bit machine, running JAWS12 or potentially 13, does anybody
have a way to turn a reading of a text document by one of the JFW
synthesizers into an mp3 file? Or, and perhaps off-topic, I should be able
to make OpenBook 9 do this but my attempt so far was unsuccessful. I want to
take Spanish documents, have them read with a Realspeak synthesizer and be
able to read them on a portable device, mp3 or daisy.

Thanks.

Jaws 11 squishes everything together on screen

Samara Raine <samararaine@...>

Is it just me, or does Jaws 11 squish everything together on the screen. For example, on m.facebook.com, there are no blank lines between posts and such. The entire wall (or main page, depending on whether or not you're logged in) is all one huge block of text. Is there a way to edit this? To get jaws to show the blank lines that I know are there? Jaws 10 did it just fine.

Re: What to do about XP machines

Tom Lange

Hi,
I'll chime in on this one. I use JAWS 12 build 1170 on my XP Pro box here at home and it's working fine for me. It's very stable. Are there quirks? Oh yeah, definitely, but I can live with them; none of them are showstoppers by any means. I've still got Office 2003 on this one and it works okay with version 12, too. My laptop and the machines that I use in the lab at work are all running Windows 7 with either Office 2007 or Office 2010, and I see odd behaviors that are more serious. For example, In Word, if I switch to the JAWS cursor while in a document, I can't use normal reading commands; the JAWS cursor just doesn't track right. I haven't nailed down why that's happening, but let me tell you, when I'm trying to show a student the differences between how the PC and JAWS cursors are supposed to act, that kind of weird behavior is hard to explain away other than to say that it's just some sort of mysterious JAWS fluke, and that's not cool. Anybody got an answer to that one? Tech support sure didn't. Hmmm.

Tom

Hello, everyone.

In a recent post, I believe Adrian said the following:

"Many listers have reported flaws in JAWS 12,
possibly because it is more directed to Windows 7 than XP. ... I
still use XP Pro,
and the warnings on this list have convinced me to stay with JAWS 11,
even
though my SMA entitles me to JAWS 12."

The timing for this comment couldn't have been better in my case.

Although this is likely to change soon as my University switches
us all completely over to Windows 7, my desktop at work is still
an XP machine, and still has Jaws 11. The back-up PC I have at
home is an XP machine, and that too has Jaws 11.

So, is the collective wisdom of the group to keep things as they
are now on the XP machines, rather than installing Jaws 12 which
seems to be geared more to Windows 7?

If this is true, you guys have just saved me some head-aches with
my remaining XP computers, and I thank you sincerely for that.

I'll save my headaches for installing Jaws 12 on the new Windows 7
laptop the University will give me this week. (smile)

Tom in Michigan

Hello everyone:

I recently had to upgrade my motherboard and bootable hard drive for my
computer.

As a result, the old immages I have stored on an external USB hard drive are
no longer available to me, as they were for my original motherboard and
bootable hard drive.

Having installed Windows XP Pro again and upgraded Internet Explorer to
Version 7, from the default Version 6, which came on the Windows
Installation CD, I need to configure IE 7 to work with the best settings for
a screen-reader.

Can anyone on the list suggest a site, where I can get such settings.

All helpful suggestions will be welcome.

Thanks in anticipation.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Where to get optimal settings for IE 7 and 8 to work with Screen-readers?

Dave Durber

Hello everyone:

I recently had to upgrade my motherboard and bootable hard drive for my computer.

As a result, the old immages I have stored on an external USB hard drive are no longer available to me, as they were for my original motherboard and bootable hard drive.

Having installed Windows XP Pro again and upgraded Internet Explorer to Version 7, from the default Version 6, which came on the Windows Installation CD, I need to configure IE 7 to work with the best settings for a screen-reader.

Can anyone on the list suggest a site, where I can get such settings.

All helpful suggestions will be welcome.

Thanks in anticipation.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Re: The best accessible FTP-server with JAWS

northstar1950@...

you can use slimftp and its free. it uses a script file like apache2 does and is very easy to setup. i run it myself. you could install the apache2triad and it includes slimftp as well as http, sql, and pyphon.

Legend has it that on Wednesday 10/5/2011 01:11 PM, Anders Boholdt-Petersen said:
Hi everyone,

I looking after a FTP-server I can install on my Windows-computer where I can create users, set privileges to shared directorys et cetera.

After that I will give my computer a static IP-address, so I can forward the port in my router.

What is the best accessible FTP-server with JAWS (using JAWS 11 and 12)?

I have both Windows XP Service Pack 3 (HOME), and Windows 7 64-bit (also HOME-version).

Very thanks for the answer.

Anders

(smile)
