OK.
Will try the F-6 command.
I generally try to avoid PDF, but sometimes they just cannot be avoided.
I'll definitely give that a try.

Ed,

I vaguely recall this on some PDF and I'm also using Acrobat 9 on XP Pro.
However since I'm using JAWS 12.0.525 I may not be subject to the same
issues that you are seeing. Have you tried using F6 to route through
possible pages to get to an underlying document page?

Recently, as I've attempted to read PDF documents, I encounter pages which
simply say "Open Parent Document Button."
The button doesn't seem to do anything, and there appears to be nothing on
the page.
Before anyone tells me it is a scanned image, I know that's not the case.
When that is the case, JAWS says "Empty Document."
I've never encountered this "Open Parent Document button" before, and I'm
not really sure what is going on.
I'm using IE 8. I am pretty sure they installed Adobe 9. This is on my work
laptop.
These buttons are annoying, to say the least.

HI
If you are waiting for a stable version of Jaws 12 good luck. Why should
they make a stable version of a product when they can make a new version
which people think they must buy in order to get a stable version?

I'm guessing 13 will be out by the end of the year. It's up to you
whether
to wait or not. You could always contact Freedom Scientific and ask if
they will honour a purchase of 12; that is, if 13 comes out right after
you buy 12, see if they'll give you the upgrade to 13 at no cost. It's
worth a try.

Re: When will JAWS 13 be out?

Dave...

Karen,

If you have an SMA for 12 you do realize that even if you don't use it, you
still lose the SMA. If 12 is your last version on the SMA, you'll need to
renew the SMA to get 13, or wait and purchase 13 full price. Better check
with FS ASAP.

Yes I no there are some issues with Jaws 12.exe,
But seriously, I'm running jaws 12.exe, on a xp, vista, and windows 7
machine, I'm really not seeing a complete mess.
There are many others who are running the latest version, and things are
working good.

So, what are or were the issues you were experiencing?

Re: When will JAWS 13 be out?

Dorothy <dorothy.ingram-gorban@...>

Exactly and of course you asked how well it will work with windows 8? The
list seems very busy repeating the same questions, I put it on and swallow
hard seeing about 60 unread messages, but I guess many of us have paid in
advance for Jaws 13, I know I did as far back as December, since in uk if
left till even January it would have cost a lot more, and many like me are
using our savings to buy it if fs want loyal users they will have to work at
it regards dorothy

I have contacted FS re this matter and they have assured me that Jaws 13
would be released on the very day that it is ready to be released. As they
are very anxious to sell this exciting new product, thereby increasing
revenue and generating cash flow, they will be working like bees over the
next several weeks.
I guess a more appropriate question is "how many times will posters ask on
this list when Jaws 13 will be released."
If memory serves me correctly, I believe this thread was the final straw
that then prompted me to unsubscribe from the list--directions for which can
be found at the bottom of said list.

Good news. I wonder what they'll do next!

I was looking through the Help files this morning to find out how to

an
item from my Programs list and put it onto my Start Menu. I was
unable to

it

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do, but I don't know why
you're going through so many steps. If you want to add a program to the
start menu, just go to the program, press the applications key, and choose
the "pin to start menu" command.

Hi,
Somebody wrote:

I wasn't sure about that. If using Windows 7, the previous directions
about pinning items to the Start Menu are correct. If we're talking about
XP, the procedure is almost as simple.
1. Find the program that you want to add to the Start Menu.
2. Press the Application key or Shift-f10, then arrow down to Copy and
press Enter.
3. Go to the Start button and use the application key again. Arrow down
to Explore All Users and press Enter.
4. The Start Menu tree view will be open in Windows Explorer. Press Tab
once, then ctrl+v.
5. Press Alt+F4 to close Windows Explorer.
6. Open the Start menu as you normally do and you should find the new
entry.

Tom

Re: Adding items to Start Menu... was When will JAWS 13 be stopping Jaws from the command line

The Scarlet Wombat <scarletwombat@...>

I am sure there is a way to stop jaws without having to use the insert f4 command. I am scripting several things with autoHotKey, a wonderful program. I need a command to stop jaws from the command line. I have tried tskill, but it refuses to stop jfw.exe.

Any better ideas?

Hey Farfar,
You wrote:

Tom,

Man, where did you learn all that?
Well, a lot of that came with willingness to play around and just explore to see what happens. There's a lot of trial and error in that process but it's a tremendous learning experience. Being involved with PC's now for sixteen years and fiddling with assistive technoloby of various sorts, one is bound to pick up a few odds and ends along the way. And I'm more than happy to impart what I've learned to whoever is a willing and open recipient. That's why I'm teaching for a living these days.

I've been wasting my time all these years
groping through folders and subfolders, and all I needed to do was the
Applications key?
Yes, there's a lot of power in that application key, as you've now seen. I use it whenever possible and when the need arises. It opens up a lot of possibilities. Pick something at random, use that application key and you'll be amazed at what you can find.

I take my hat off to you, my friend. There's a whole lot
of Windows hidden in that Applications key just sitting there, waiting for
me to stumble on it.
Good stuff!
Indeed, and I thank you for the nice words. Take care, my friend.

CHEERS!

Correct. There is none. What you need to do is:

1. C:\documents and settings\[YourUserName]\start menu\programs
2. Browse to what you want to copy.
3. Copy.
4. C:\documents and settings\[YourUserName]\start menu\
5. Paste.

See if that works.
