I am sending the router back to Amazon. I had my daughter look at it and she tells me that the power light, which was supposed to light up amber when starting and turn white when ready, was not turning white after 2 minutes as stated in the user's manual. The trouble shooting section stated that this may happen if there was a defective unit, so it is going back.

And set it up with my wife's sighted assistance. All went well except my Lenovo Flex laptop simply didn't see either the 2.4 or 5 GHz bands. I called Netgear support and waited for literally hours to talk to customer (dis)service only to get disconnected without a solution. I wasn't going to wait around for several more hours, so I returned the Netgear router and purchased a TP-Link Archer AX50. I encountered a few glitches with its setup as well, but I got them all resolved. First, I had the same problem with the AX50 not being seen by my Lenovo laptop, so I had my wife help me set it up using her iPad. We had some trouble getting our preferred password to work. I think the iPad was substituting some special characters which the router didn't like. Since my laptop was the only device that didn't want to connect to the network, I figured it was probably a driver issue, so I went looking for a driver update. I first checked Windows update, but it said my driver was up to date. I then went to the Lenovo website, but couldn't find anything that looked like a driver update for the wireless adaptor in my Flex laptop. Finally, I scoured the Intel website and after much hunting around, I found a driver update for my wireless network adapter. I installed it and restarted my computer. At last, all my devices connected to my new wifi 6 router, including my Lenovo laptop. And so far, (crossing fingers) no crashes! And I was able to enter my preferred password from my laptop. To summarize, my Lenovo laptop needed a driver update in order to work with a wifi 6 router. The Netgear probably would have worked with the driver update, but I'm happy with the TP-Link and it was actually a bit less expensive. I have noticed that I don't get quite as fast download speeds, but that could be due to any number of reasons, such as a busier Internet or even the driver update. Getting a slightly diminished download speed is way better than having to reboot my router several times a day. I guess time will tell whether I made a good decision in choosing this router. Hm. I didn't think Doug Lee had scripts for goldwave. I'll have to look as that's news to me.

Strictly speaking I feel like scripts aren't that necessary with GW -- but they do add a little more audio feedback for certain things, which could be helpful. There's also an add-on for NVDA, which is also pretty talkative.

Or maybe an older version of Audacity. It's been around for a while and I'm sure there are old versions available that will work with loads of systems. I first remember using it in 2011 or 2010 I believe and it wasn't exactly new then.

Re: Is there an easy way (or an extension for) sending a URL as a shortcut to the desktop with Firefox and JAWS?
Barbara Sheinbein
Hello,
I have some steps you can use regardless of which browser you are using. This works in Windows 10. I do not know if it works in earlier versions of Windows. This works for all sorts of things to send to your desktop like folders, documents, or even a commonly used email address.
Go to your desktop. Press control-space bar to deselect anything on your desktop. Press the applications key or shift-10. Arrow up or down to new and press enter. Arrow to shortcut and press enter. You will be in an edit field. Type or copy/paste your web site URL. Tab to next button and press enter. On the next screen give this a name and tab to finish. Press enter.
I hope this helps.

Hi!
I am using Windows 10, JAWS 2019 and Firefox. Unlike in IE, Firefox seems not to have the “Send Shortcut to Desktop” command. I use to have an extension called something like “Deskcut” in my Firefox, but apparently it became deprecated and was automatically removed. So, is there any easy way natively within Firefox, or a good extension for, sending a link to the currently viewed website (i.e., its URL) to the desktop?
Thanks, Richard

The only currently maintained Firefox Add-On I can find that has functionality similar to DeskCut is QuickCut.
I have not used it, and it appears to put a menu item into the Firefox menu, "Save Link." I have no idea if it's accessible or not, but given the simplicity of the way it's invoked, I expect it is. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Hi Brian: Thanks for that. I’ll try, but I have Windows 7 here.

If you're running Windows 10, try the following: 1. Make nothing is highlighted / selected and press the application key to open the context menu or use Shift + F10 if you don't have an application key. 2. Down arrow to, Group by submenu, press enter, now navigate to, None, and press enter. 3. Again make sure nothing is selected, open the context menu and make your choices in the View & Sort by submenues.
Here is a list of the shortcut keys for changing the type of view:
CTRL + SHIFT + 1 Extra Large icons,
Take care.

Re: An accessible router

I thought I'd let y'all know how I resolved my router issues.

I continued to experience the problem with my 5GHz band crashing, so I decided to try a wifi 6 router. I purchased a Netgear Nighthawk. (I don't recall the model number.) And set it up with my wife's sighted assistance. Jeff

I think I might be in the market for a new router myself. I got my stimulus payment and figure it's a good way to use some of it.
