Re: jaws 11 and lost focus

HI Bob,

Are you running Jaws from the system tray? If so, windows key + J, is the
incorrect keystroke. You need to use Insert / Jaws key + J, to get to the
Jaws window. If you arre using Jaws key + J, & happened to type windows key
+ J, by accident, I don't have an answer for you, & hopefully someone will
have the answer & help both of us. Take care.
Mike

I just found a problem in jaws 11 . If it loses focus and says press
Windows key m to go to the desktop, I can not press Windows key J to go to
the jaws window.

WindowsKey+J does nothing here. Are you sure you don't mean Insert+J?
Me thinks this is a case of operator error.

Hi, I cant test this at the moment, but by the sound of it you have
nothing
to loos.
Im asuming that windows is still starting up ok?
if so go to the program files folder & to Freedom Scientific & coppy the 2
folders, Activator, & Authorization Coppy them onto a flash stick or
external drive.
If it wont let you coppy them, you may need to stop jaws from starting on
reboot & use NVDA to coppy them.

after you reinstall the system, re install jaws & I would suggest you set
jaws not to start automaticly & then reboot, then use NVDA to coppy the 2
folders you coppied before back into the Freedom Scientific folder over
writing the existing ones.

As I said havent tested this but because you are reinstalling your system
with out any hardware or OS changes this may work, & you wont need to use
another auth key.

Good luck,
let me know how you go.

Re: Will Jaws read a Kindle book that's not text to speech enabled?

Gary King

Matthew,
Kindle for PC with Accessibility Plugin will read books with its built-in text-to-speech even though text-to-speech has been disabled by the authors. In order for this to happen, an external screen reader must be running. They tested JAWS and NVDA. The screen readers reads the menus and controls, and the built-in text-to-speech reads the content of the book. JAWS cannot read any text in the book.

If the book is available in the Blio bookstore, you may have better luck. JAWS can read the content of a book in the Blio EBook Reader.

JAWS can also read protected Epub books with Adobe Digital Editions 1.8 Preview, not to be confused with other versions of Adobe Digital Editions. You may want to check to see if the book is available in that format.

Hello, according to various reviews of the Kindle app for pc with the accessibility, if the text to speech isn't enabled on a certain book, Jaws should read the text. I'm concerned, because if the text to speech is enabled, then I can't turn it off and let Jaws read the book in my preferred voice. I also can't arrow up and down through the text. So will I indeed get the text read to me if I buy the new Stephen King short story called Mile 81? The page says that text to speech isn't enabled, but I don't want to spend the three dollars if Jaws won't read it, and take the chance that Amazon may not give back the money. The link for this story is here:
http://www.amazon.com/Mile-81-ebook/dp/B005COO1X6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313679407&sr=8-1
Also, if there's some way to turn off the tts and let Jaws read from the Kindle app all the time, I'd like to find that out, although Amazon says it can't be done.
Thanks.

Dear James,
I appreciate you telling me that I am being sent messages that will help me unsubscribe, but I assure my ISP is not blocking them, my ISP never blocks anything.

James, can you please unsubscribe me manually, I would certainly appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

hmmm, i didn't have any trouble unsubscribing using the link i provided
when i had to switch isp's last week. not sure what the problem is, but it
works for me and it should work for anybody else that uses the provided
link

mailto:jfw-request@...?subject=unsubscribe<mailto:jfw-request@
lists.the-jdh.com?subject=unsubscribe>

when you click on the link above, a message is generated in your default
email client and all you have to do is just press the send command of your
client. you should receive a message that you can reply to to confirm that
you definitely do want to unsubscribe.

research-it will never be reliable, should be removed from jaws altogether for my part. never use it and its useless code.

Why don't you just do it yourself and go to si.com that stands for sports

I'm sure you're going to have to wait until JAWS 13 is out. I doubt
they
will do any more revisions to 12.

Any dissenters?
