David:

It's funny you should ask this, because I am investigating this very question as we speak.

What I have heard is that Windows Live Mail is closest to Outlook Express, which I currently use on a Windows XP machine.

So, I'll probably start with the Live Mail option.

The trick will be synchronizing it with my personal G-mail account.

If you have any thoughts on how to gget Windows Live Mail, and how to synchronize it with my g-mail account, that would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello sir;

Not sure if you no this,
However, there's one decision you will need to make and that is,
What email client will you use, since windows 7 doesn't come with a email
client built in.

You have choice, windows live mail which is free,
MSoutlook 2007 or 2010 in fact even 2003 would work, also thunder bird,
which I no nothing about.
These are just a few.

Hello there;

The easiest way is to,

1, go to start menu, you will hear, search box edit,
Type in, theme, you then will hear;
Change the theme press enter.
Now you have landed in the list of themes,

The trick is now to find the classic theme,
You will need to use your arrow keys,

Once you hear jaws announce classic theme, press enter, you should hear a
sound, signifying the change, now alt+f4,

This is mostlikely the easier way,
This can also be done through the personalized items.
Through the desktop.

Hope this helps.

Actually?

Things should work fine right out of the box.

Other wise?
Things should work just fine,
And really no need to navigate since you can find things through the

Just to be clear, are you using the standard Acrobat find command Ctrl+F or the Jaws-specific Acrobat find command Ctrl+Ins+F?

In my experience, the standard Acrobat find command is worthless while the Jaws-specific Acrobat find command works well.

Hi, all.

I'm between computers here, and have a question about Jaws activation
counts.

I know I could call FS about this, but figured I might get a quicker
answer
from the list.

Regarding activations, does a single-license Jaws user like myself have a
given number of activations for each separate version of Jaws, or is the
allotted number of 3 activations constant across all versions of Jaws
collectively?

I am getting a couple of new computers set up for both office and home,
and

am trying to figure out how best to proceed, while still keeping an older
Windows XP machine around as a back-up in case that is needed as well.

I have Jaws 12, but a few earlier versions of Jaws that I could probably
use if neded, if that would give me more activations to work with.

Thanks!

Tom from Michigan

Homonyms Dictionary

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

All:
I've been beta testing a soft phone for over a year, and during that time, I've had my Dragon Naturally Speaking system disconnected. I installed yesterday, and an old problem came to light again.
Naturally Speaking isn't all that good about recognizing context. So, it can, and does, confuse h-e-a-r and h-e-r-e; t-h-e-r-e and t-h-e-i-r; and m-a-l-e and m-a-i-l.
The problem is that these, and loads of other homonyms, sound exactly the same to me. I have a pretty good secretary, but she doesn't catch them all.
I have a list of about 120 homonyms, and for Window-Eyes, I created a special dictionary in which these homonyms are actually spelled. I could simply "load" this custom dictionary when proof-reading. To use it all the time would drive one insane.
I'm not exactly sure how to do this in JAWS. In fact, I think I raised this question about a year ago, and I don't remember any particularly satisfying answer. So, I'm trying again.
If my guess is correct, and the pronunciation dictionary is a mere text file, then presumably I could use my old dictionary file from Window-Eyes. I'm thinking, however, that I would have to copy, physically, two entire configuration files over top of one another because JAWS doesn't distinguish between dictionaries for a particular configuration.
I suppose that one could copy configuration files with some sort of a script, but that solution seems rather messy.
I could also possibly create a new voice profile, perhaps called "DragonProof," to which I could switch when proof-reading dictated text; however, I'm not sure whether each voice profile uses a separate pronunciation dictionary. In fact, I don't think they do. For instance, I defined a client's name,
Toughey, to be pronounced Tooey, which is the correct pronunciation.
I just switched to the Solo Real Speak profile, and the name was pronounced correctly. So, I conclude that the speech profiles are using the same dictionaries.
Another possibility might be simply to have JAWS pronounce all homonyms using British English. I would run that configuration, the default, all the time. It would be annoying, but at least I would be alerted to double-check the spelling when the British voice pops up. That's also not very elegant. Thinking about it suggests that JAWS uses a far more complex pronunciation dictionary than a mere text file -- as does Window-Eyes. In Window-Eyes, one cannot change the pronunciation of characters, switch to a different language, distinguish between upper and lower case, or associate sounds with particular words.
So, I'm open to suggestions. I don't want to unload JAWS and load Window-Eyes just to proof a document.

Hi Everyone:

Since joining this list about a week ago, I've noticed a great deal
of negativity about JAWS. I don't want to downplay its problems
-- it has a few. And it seems like many on this list have encountered more
difficulties than I have which, naturally, puts one in a gloomier frame of
mind, not only with regard to the application itself but also to its future. Yes, JAWS's pricetag is waaay too high, its scripts are meager, its
glitchiness is frustrating, its documentation is lackluster, its tendency
not to do what you set it to do is legendary... But... It has some pretty
awesome features as well.

- revolutionized the way I read webpages. Experience with these can get me
- to the content faster than sighted people, provided that I'm at least
- passingly familiar with the website in question. SelectAParagraph is
- probably my favorite feature in JAWS. Go to any News site, click on an
- article and tell me that SelectAParagraph doesn't rock. You avoid all the
- mess and get right to the targeted content. For me, it's almost replaced
- placemarkers which were never reliable anyway given the rate at which
- webpages are redesigned.

- Personalized settings for webpage? Fantastic! I hate inline frames. If
- there are any Slate Magazine fans on this list, having to bump over that
- stupid Facebook inline frame to read articles drove me bunkers until I
- found out how to turn that off in CTRL+JAWSKey+V. And Slate. Com isn't the
- only site that puts that Facebook inline in inconvenient places. And for
- those like me who've been all-but-driven to madness by SayAll's obsessive
- need to vocalize Same-Page links on Wikipedia pages, you can turn that
- off under the Links branch in personalized settings. And the best part is
- that you can customize these settings for individual websites.

- Finally, some of the navigation keys are pretty sweet. Visited links is
- the most useful, for me. Going right to that spot you typically visit and
- hitting enter, so click. Going right to placemarkers on webpages that
- don't update a lot? Nice. Jumping to lines on a page? Paging through
- paragraphs? I use them all to get through the mess.

My intention is not to chastise. Like I mentioned above, JAWS has
its problems and its important to point them; I recognize that. So for all
of you who've held Freedom Scientific to account over JAWS's issues, I raise
my glass to you. But it has some pretty amazing navigational features as
well and I don't want that to be forgotten in the din.

Cheers,
Spence

PS: Does anyone know if the JAWS developers have any intentions of
implementing that Voiceover-in-Safari feature for the Mac which keeps all
webpage menus closed until you click on them to open them? If that wouldn't
clean up web browsing for Jaws in IE or Firefox...

I'd be happyier if they just focused on getting all the features from JAWS 12 working as well as possible.

Bhavesh, we can discuss jaws 13 features all we like, but the public beta
will be coming out in the next month or so. Therefore this conversation is
redundant, as fs have already decided what new features in jaws 13 will be.

in this issue, i think even though it is late, we can discuss jaws13
features, which FS should add.
according to me, one feature that jaws13 should have is that it should
allow us to select the list of textual errors in a list view, and then
select which one to edit. this becomes easier to edit our preffered
text.

Re: [Bulk] Question on activation count

Peter Holdstock <peterholdstock@...>

Hmm, they have now refused to reset mine to more than one at a time. They claim I have had 33 activations in a few months. Can't think where they get that figure from and very annoying. I'm in the process of raising it as a complaint. They tried to sell me a dongle licence instead.

Re: Jaws And Negativity.

Spencer McLean <smclean@...>

Valid points all. I'm a writer, so the health of my employment doesn't hinge on Excel. So I can well imagine how those who have to venture off the main path of web browsing/word processing get frustrated, and how I might have a better opinion of the application given that I don't have to hack my way through those particular jungles.

Well, in the end, the lens through which we evaluate something is almost always primarily colored by how much we paid for it. given the ridiculous pricetag, it should work better than it does. I just wish its virtues got kicked around a bit more than they do because maybe some people on this list aren't'aware of JAWS's more useful, esoteric commands.

anyway, my sympathies to those of you who have to soldier on.

Spence

PS: So sorry for that dashes thing in my original post. didn't notice before I hit send. 23 list items, huh? At least that wasn't JAWS's fault. ;)

Nope, you don't get any more activations. The only time the older versions might make a difference is if you run out of upgrades, then you could use a newer version as a demo and use the older version permanently.

You are given a certain number of keys. You can use those across any number of computers, provided you only use one at a time.
