Re: [Bulk] Putting Jaws to sleep

It works in JAWS 11. Press insert-1 (the 1 above the letters) to go into key
identifier mode to confirm. Use the same mode to answer your earlier post.

insert spacebar then s gives me a pair of upward clicks; then the s does
nothing. This is version 11.

Marsha,

How about Insert+Spacebar, then the letter "S"? Just remember to do it
again to turn it back on.

Re: A Music player

Hi,

I'm little confused about uploading music files to my library. If I already
have a folder for a artist in the library and there are an album in it with
some songs. How do you add another album to the artist's folder in the
library. I tried to add a folder to library, were I selected the artist name
to upload. I was thinking the album in the artist folder that was already in
my library would be ignored and the new album would be the only thing
upload. But it didn't work like that I ended up with the album that was
already in the library having duplicate songs.

availible but I use mine without any scripts and without any problems.
Apparently the scripts adds a lot of shortcuts but I never needed
anything more than tab, F6, space and the arrow keys. Some people
don't like the way itunes diggs in to your music and rearanges it in a

There used to be a control--I think insert control s--that allowed you to change synthesizers to no speach. When I wanted braille only, that's the one I used. Is it still available somehow?

Ed,

One thing that putting JAWS to sleep allows one to do is to use a braille
display without speech. This is useful in a program like Kurzweil or a
braille translator.

What always bothers me when there's an update

Cal <yesitscal@...>

I just jumped from V11 to V13 and am finding it okay. One thing that always bothers me with every update is that how I navigate through text changes because I use the CTRL+down-arrow key a lot to jump from paragraph to paragraph, or on news pages from story to story. There always seems to be missing lines in places were they were previously not separated by a line and hence sometimes I move over text that I had not intended to. I'm making a mess out of trying to explain myself, aren't I? I'm sure I must not be the only person who goes through text online this way, so maybe you might know why this is because I'm just really curious.

didn't do anything. My computer wasn't setup to do anything. But I just
setup this key combination for JAWS startup because of a response from Chris

Dondi,

Usually when you install JAWS the shortcut is automatically assigned to your
desktop shortcut. What happens if you press Ctrl+Alt+J? Does it bring up the
JAWS dialog?

Then unload JAWS with Ctrl+F4 and try it again to see what happens. Which
version of JAWS was loaded?
Get back to me with your findings.

Re: can't get punctuation some to stay

Soronel Haetir

I don't see any discrepancy, the two do different things.

Say for one application you want '?' to still be spoken despite your
using a setting of 'no punctuation' for that profile, you would modify
the settings center punctuation dialog in that case. But as far as I
am aware, the punctuation level in use is strictly a matter of the
voice profile in use and is not effected by the application profile
(of course, you could go through the punctuation dialog and alter
every symbol individually but that would be a slow way to perform that
particular task when you could just create a different profile
instead).

Does that clear up why I answered these two questions in the way I did?

Sure. I think your conversation is with George? Settings Center is simply
Insert+f2 then s twice. Then type in the word highlight. I think it will get
you close. Don't know what George was alluding to, so I purposely kept out
of the conversation. But now I'm in it, and likely not suggesting what
George was intending.

word 2003 and old jaws could do it. Do I need to setup something in
jaws?

New Jaws build.

Matthew Bullis <matthewbullis@...>

There's a new build for Jaws, and once you navigate to Jaws headquarters, then to what's new, then you go to the thing that says complete list of enhancements. That page gets more specific on what each build has in it. It's here:

Re: Jaws 13.0.527 Direct Download Links

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

The office installation went fine, but a little squirrelly. In the
middle of the WWV sequence (I know we have some hams in the house) if
rebooted. Upon returning, we went through the installation wizard. The
second attempt was perfectly normal, and we're now in!

I *never* use the automatic download. Too risky. Always, always, always,

download the executable file directly from the web site and save it to
your
hard disc drive, and then launch it from there.

I tried the direct download.
It said "configuring system for JAWS" and started ticking.
It never stopped ticking for an extremely long time.
I turned the pc off, and when I turned it on again, JAWS was loaded at
the
new version.
Go figure!

Don't know why, but I couldn't get it to install on my home machine. I
just finished a new download from FS, and will try it again tonight. I
hope to install it in the office later this morning.

Hi All,

Below are the direct download links for the latest version of Jaws13,
Jaws
13.0.527. Choose your operating system & click on the link. It is
suggested to save the download to your computer, in a place you can
access
easily, & run the update from there instead of running / installing
from
the
website.

For 32 Bit Systems:

http://files.freedomscientific.com/WebFiles/JAWS/J13.0.527-32bit.exe

For 64 Bit Systems:

Hope this helps. Take care.

Find the Jaws icon on your desktop. Press ALT+ENTER to enter its properties dialog. Tab until you reach the hotkey field. Press the hotkey you wish to use to launch Jaws. Then close the dialog.

Is that "sleep" different from using Insert plus F-4? I know the latter
actually shuts JAWS down, but it seems quicker and easier than going to the
Settings Center. Just wondering what advantages there are of using "sleep"
over just unloading JAWS and restarting again with control plus alt plus j.
I'm probably missing something.

Hi,

Bring up settings center (jaws+6), type 'sleep' in the search box and
then arrow down to the sleep mode selection and enable it.
