Re: Jaws 12 question - Jaws unresponsive to keystrokes while in folder and link lists

Dorothy <dorothy.ingram-gorban@...>

I note you are using high contrast settings, and I think even if you have
professional equipment you will have problem with xp, I used to get around
it by running lunar a product from another stable, I find using windows 7
it is much easier. I have actually removed lunar from my xp laptop just
take care not to use high contrast, the laptop has little resources but has
kept going for over 6years and as it is a secondary machine just put up
with it, is there a reason you need high contrast settings I wonder regards

Subject: Jaws 12 question - Jaws unresponsive to keystrokes while in folder
and link lists

Hi people, my apologies if this has already been asked.
I recently upgraded from Jaws 11 pro to Jaws 12 pro. I am operating on xp
professional and use high contrast settings.

One of the first things I noticed with Jaws 12 is that when I am in a folder

list in say outlook Jaws continues with its narrative even when I press the
letter of the folder I wish to go to such as J for junk email. This happens
on all applications and is of particular annoyance when I use f7 on the net
to bring up the links list. When I hit a key to find a certain link Jaws
still continues to read the link it is on and shows no haste in updating to
the new link.

I can get around this by using the control key to silence Jaws then I can
hit the first letter of the link or folder I want and this does the trick
however it is an extreme annoyance and slows things down for me.

Does anyone know of a fix for this or is this just a new feature on Jaws 12
and I am stuck with it.

I have all the latest Jaws 12 updates on my system so as far as I know there

is no outstanding update available to help.

I sent a request to Freedom Scientific however have not heard back thus far.

Thanks kindly
Murray

JAWS 12 and the transition from XP Home to Windows 7

Dave Mitchell

Greetings: The day may come when I need to make the switch from my current XP Home to a Windows 7 machine.
A Geezer and set in my ways, will this be a smooth transition or are there new formats, layouts and the like one must learn?
Thanks for any feedback from those of you who have made the jump.
Best Wishes, Mitch

That's what I like about Apple. They are the largest/richest company
in the world, voiceover their built in screen reader is by no means
their priority but still they treet every customer, voiceover user or
not as their only customer and they will always answer a question even
if they don't have a solution to the problem they will try to help.
They also take bug reports from their voiceover users very seriously
even though blind/voiceover users are just a single drop in their
ocian of customers worldwide.

I don't see any fix for Jaws crashing again, and again, and again in XP.

May as well stand pat with Jaws 11.

We should have started a pool as to how many updates there would be to

Any list of changes/fixes?
When I go to the FS site, I seem to only find the list of what's
new in Jaws 12, not the latest patch.

Re: Scripts for Skype

David <davidwhitehead1957@...>

Hello there;

Yes, you are correct, providing you have these checked in the tools/options
of skype,

Open skype,

Alt+t=tools,
O=options,
Now, you will land on general,
So you can eather down arrow to shortcut keys,
Or, press ctrl+end-key, you will see shortcut keys, tab and check the box,
Enable keyboard shortcut keys,
Now you can tab to verify,

Remember to save.

Hi Dave
Thank you for the scripts for Skype. It went like clock work. I had
tried to find them before but had no luck. One question for people, though,
is it Alt page up to answer and alt page down to hang up? I looked at the
keyboard commands for Jaws but there wasn't any information about this.
Thanks so much.

Marsha

Re: [Bulk] Can any of you please edit the word bulk out of your subject linesHuh?

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

Thanks Dave. Yet again, the solution is in exploring one's screen reader and its features. *grin*

Re: [Bulk] Can any of you please edit the word bulk out of your subject linesHuh?

Dave...

Uh, and Ken if I may suggest that you edit out all the huh? from your
messages? Pretty annoying. But maybe that was your point?

Again understand that no one intentionally puts [bulk] in their subject
line. It's an automated system, huh?

From my Dell Latitude 630, currently not nearly close enough for my comfort
to my Audio Recording and Mixing Studios, San Francisco Bay Area. But I'll
try to remedy that situation.
