Could you have ever perhaps set up some individual JAWS settings using INSERT SHIFT V with Google. Perhaps try using that keyboard shortcut and see if auto forms mode is on when your in those settings and change it that way, or completely remove your specific settings for google.

Hi every body
for those of you who repair systems & for those who would find this
helpful.

I have attached 2 text files that when you change the extention to .reg &
run them they will do the following.

1. Activate Sound in SafeMode
this will add a set of registry keys to the safe mode tree
that will enable audio in safe mode, in both safe mode & safe mode with
networking.
Depending on the chipset as to whether the onboard audio will load, how
ever the microsoft USB audio will always load, so all you need is a USB
headset & use NVDA for the screen reader.
I have used this on many diferent chipsets & so far the onboard audio has
loaded, but shore there will be a chipset that wont like to play But as I
said the hedset is all you need.
I have used this on XP, W7 32 & 64 bit.

2. remove Activate Sound in SafeMode.
this will as it says remove the registry keys once your done if you want
to remove them.

I hope a lot of you find this helpful & please pass this onto all your VIP
techy friends.

What else can I say, except to repeat what I wrote in my previous posting,
according to FS Tech Support, JAWS does not assign a shortcut key during the

installation of any version of JAWS. If you have a problem with that
statement, then you should take it up with the FS Technical Support
Department.

Now, as far as I am concerned, this thread has reached the end of the road.

Then how do you explain the fact that my version of JAWS 9 had the hot key
of Alt-Control-J when it was originally installed? I did not assign this
hot key myself, and Hot Key Detective confirmed that it was not
user-assigned. Hot Key Detective designates user-defined hot keys as
"personal" and system or program-assigned hot keys as "common".
Alt-Control-J was designated as "common", which means that it was not
user-assigned. So where did it come from? And how do you explain the
fact that When Open Book 7 was installed, it was assigned the hot key
Alt-Control-O? Again, I didn't assign it myself.

When I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my computer and installed
JAWS 9, the JAWS installation program did not, I repeat, did not, assign
CTRL+ALT+J or, any other shortcut key combination to JAWS 9.

Likewise, when I installed JAWS 10, 11, and 12, none of the installation
programs for any of those versions did not, again I repeat, did not,
assign any shortcut key.

Finally, before posting my response to your last posting, I called FS
Tech Support to clarify this point.

The Tech Support Representative, when I ask them if JAWS assigns a
shortcut key automatically during the installation process or not, said
that the JAWS installation program does not assign any shortcut key to
the newly installed version of JAWS. They went on to say that JAWS might
delete an assigned shortcut key. when you use the Repair JAWS function.

Not necessarily. Assuming JAWS 11 is the latest version installed on
your computer, it was automatically assigned the hot key Alt-Control-J
when it was originally installed. Unless you delete this "hidden" hot
key, it will always launch JAWS 11, even if you create the user-defined
hot key Alt-Control-J for JAWS 10. As a rule, hot keys automatically
assigned by an application take precedence over hot keys defined by the
user. You can use Hot Key Detective to determine whether a particular
hot key is application assigned or user assigned. When I installed the
demo version of JAWS 10, Alt-Control-J, which had been created
automatically when I originally installed JAWS 9, was automatically
reassigned to JAWS 10. In order to reassign Alt-Control-J back to JAWS
9, my default version of JAWS, I had to use Hot Key Detective to delete
Alt-Control-J from JAWS 10 and then use the Properties dialog of JAWS 9
to re-create it as a user-assigned hot key.

Yesterday, if you remember, I assigned CTRL+ALT+J to JAWS 10 first and
then JAWS 11. I then unloaded JAWS 10 and pressed the shortcut key
combination to see which version of JAWS Windows would launch. In that
instance, JAWS 11 was launched over JAWS 10.

Following your comments in your reply, I reversed the actions of my
experiment, to see whether Windows reversed its action, that is, launch
JAWS 10 over JAWS11.

I first deleted the CTRL+ALT+J shortcut key combination for JAWS 10 and
JAWS 11.

I then assigned the shortcut key to JAWS 11 first and did the same with
JAWS 10.

I then unloaded JAWS 10 and pressed CTRL+ALT+J and waited to see which
version of JAWS would be loaded.

Well, surprise, surprise, Windows did reverse its action and launched
JAWS 10 over JAWS 11.

It appears that if you assign the same shortcut key to more than one
application, Windows will launch the last program to which you assigned
the shortcut key combination, that is, the application which has the
latest updated date and time stamps.

Dave and everyone:

From what I can tell, the JAWS installation does not automatically
assign CTRL+ALT+J, as a short cut to start JAWS.

I was using JAWS 10 at the time. As an experiment, I assigned
CTRL+ALT+J, to both JAWS 10 and 11. Windows did not complain that I
had assigned the short cut to two applications. I unloaded JAWS 10
and press CTRL+ALT+J and waited to see which version of JAWS would be
loaded. Well, in my example, JAWS 11 was loaded.

It would help, if Windows allowed only one occurrence of a short cut
key combination to be allowed to launch a program. So, if you tried
to assign a short cut combination that was already assigned to a
program to another program, Windows would tell you that this was the
case and give you another opportunity to choose another short cut
combination for the other program.

Mike,

Not quite.

Checking the "Start JAWS automatically" just ensure that JAWS will
start up
on boot of the computer.

When installing a new version (say from 11 to 12) a shortcut will be
added
to the desktop with the version number (e.g. JAWS 12) and it may or
may not
have the Ctrl+alt+J keystroke assigned.

If you have more than one major version of JAWS (9, 10, 11, 12) you
could
end up with a desktop shortcut for each, and usually the first one
with the
hotkey.

Users like Tom need to edit the shortcut preferences for the old
version and
the new to ensure that only one has the hotkey assigned.

Hi Tom,

There is no need to transfer the alt, control, + J, keystroke. That
is the
default shortcut keystroke for all versions of Jaws. What you need
to do is
go to the Jaws12 context menu / options / basics and check the box
to have
Jaws12 start automatically. By checking this box in any version of
Jaws,
tells Jaws to use this particular keystroke as the shortcut
keystroke. Hope
this helps. Take care.

Hi, again.

I just thought of one more question here.

What is the best way to transfer the Alt Control J shortcut to Jaws
12
from
Jaws 11, when doing the upgrade process?

I seem to recall having a problem with this once before in earlier
upgrades,
and can't remember how to resolve it.

All I remember is that I had great difficulty transferring the
shortcut
over
to the new version of Jaws from the earlier version.

I would have thought that the "merge utilities" function would have
taken
care of this, but it didn't in my earlier upgrade efforts.

Thanks for putting up with all my questions lately.

I forgot to ask in my previous post, whether anyone else had the same

Because, if other list members did get the attached files, then there
might
be a setting on my system which prevented me from receiving the two

how to activate audio in safe mode

2.g.i <2.g.i.84972@...>

Hi every body
for those of you who repair systems & for those who would find this helpful.

I have attached 2 text files that when you change the extention to .reg & run them they will do the following.

1. Activate Sound in SafeMode
this will add a set of registry keys to the safe mode tree
that will enable audio in safe mode, in both safe mode & safe mode with networking.
Depending on the chipset as to whether the onboard audio will load, how ever the microsoft USB audio will always load, so all you need is a USB headset & use NVDA for the screen reader.
I have used this on many diferent chipsets & so far the onboard audio has loaded, but shore there will be a chipset that wont like to play But as I said the hedset is all you need.
I have used this on XP, W7 32 & 64 bit.

2. remove Activate Sound in SafeMode.
this will as it says remove the registry keys once your done if you want to remove them.

I hope a lot of you find this helpful & please pass this onto all your VIP techy friends.

Re: new member and a question

open a blank doc.
hit alt to put you in the ribbon menu, and arrow right to insert.
arrow down once.
arrow right to you hear headder footer dropdown box and then arrow up and
or down until you hear headder and hit enter.
now you will have a list with 24 choices and arrow through the list to you
find one that will work, and hit enter.
now arrow to the right and or left and fill in the info, i.e. i choose
headder 3 collums and hit enter, and there were a headder with one row and 3
collums and i arrowed right and left and heard the following, when all the
way to the left it said enter text here and then arrow right once and you
hear again enter text here, but you are in collum 2 and arrow right again
and you hear enter text here and you are now in collum 3, (you do not hear
the you are now in collum #). with this in mind i would put the name you
need in the first collum and then the page number info in the 3rd collum.

Subject: new member and a question

Hello All,

My name is Alicia and I am a college student in Central Missouri
working
toward a BSW (Bachelors in Social Work). In addition to being a
fulltime
student, I am a mother of three teenagers, I serve on several
committees and
boards, and am married to a wonderful husband of 15 years.

My question is regarding Word 2007 and JAWS. I am using JAWS 12 and
Word 207
and wonder how to get a running header on the top of the page. I have
to put
the title of my paper on the left and the page numbers on the right.
Needless to say, I have been working at this all day and can't find a
solution. I am sure it is easy, but I can't figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alicia

Hello,

I would like to hear from anyone who has tried using the new AVG Internet Security 2011 with JAWS.
I am using the latest build of JAWS 12. Before upgrading from AVG 9 to AVG 2011; I would like to hear the experiences of those who have tried this version of AVG. I am not looking for any specific guidance on using this product. I am simply wanting to confirm whether or not this latest version is still accessible using JAWS.

Thanks.

Regards.

new member and a question

Starner, Alicia M. <astarner@...>

Hello All,

My name is Alicia and I am a college student in Central Missouri working
toward a BSW (Bachelors in Social Work). In addition to being a fulltime
student, I am a mother of three teenagers, I serve on several committees and
boards, and am married to a wonderful husband of 15 years.

My question is regarding Word 2007 and JAWS. I am using JAWS 12 and Word 207
and wonder how to get a running header on the top of the page. I have to put
the title of my paper on the left and the page numbers on the right.
Needless to say, I have been working at this all day and can't find a
solution. I am sure it is easy, but I can't figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alicia

I'm using the latest version of Thunderbird, with the latest update of Jaws 12 and Windows 7.

I'd rather not use scripts if I can avoid it. I just want to know the correct settings to enter in Jaws to get say it all to work correctly when opening an email and which cursor I should be using.

Thanks.

Subject: Thunderbird + JAWS 12 help needed

Hello

This is my first post to this list, so please bear with me as I'm not
sure if this is a Jaws problem or a Thunderbird issue.

I am a sighted user trying to learn Jaws in order to help my blind
husband. We have just migrated him to using Windows 7, Jaws 12 and
Thunderbird. He's only been using Jaws for a few months, so it is a
steep learning curve for both of us.

We are getting confused regarding the different cursors and how they
work. Using Virtual PC cursor, emails are opened and read fine with a
brief heading and then into the main body of the email, but the
navigation short cut keys - P, N, B and F don't work. Using PC cursor,
the navigation keys work fine, but Jaws announces the title of each
individual email along the lines of "mailbox:
///name/users/name/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/profiles/ etc etc. "
before getting to the message. This gets a bit tiresome when there's a
full inbox to go through.

Could someone please give me some pointers as to what settings I should
be using so that the title bar is not read each time and the PC cursor
can be used for navigation? At the moment we are using the Virtual PC
cursor, which means having to open and close each individual email when
moving through a list.

I'd be grateful for any help, including advice if this has been posted
to the wrong list.

Thanks
Deddajay

Dorothy, I suggest you ignore the scrubbing. It's clearly a quirk of this

Hello there:

I would loved to have used the files you say were attached to your
email message.

Unfortunately, the attached text files you talk about in your email do
not appear to have either been attached or, they were rejected by the
JFW list email server or, by some other method.

Could it be that the email server which is being used to host this
list, does not allow attachments, or, is it that the
owners/administrators of this list, have turned off the function which
would allow attachments.

Below the last line of your email message, the following information
was displayed.

Hi every body
for those of you who repair systems & for those who would find this
helpful.

I have attached 2 text files that when you change the extention to
.reg & run them they will do the following.

1. Activate Sound in SafeMode
this will add a set of registry keys to the safe mode tree that will
enable audio in safe mode, in both safe mode & safe mode with
networking.
Depending on the chipset as to whether the onboard audio will load,
how ever the microsoft USB audio will always load, so all you need is
a USB headset & use NVDA for the screen reader.
I have used this on many different chipsets & so far the onboard
audio has loaded, but shore there will be a chipset that wont like to
play But as I said the headset is all you need.
I have used this on XP, W7 32 & 64 bit.

2. remove Activate Sound in SafeMode.
this will as it says remove the registry keys once your done if you
want to remove them.

I hope a lot of you find this helpful & please pass this onto all
your VIP techy friends.

Could you have ever perhaps set up some individual JAWS settings using
INSERT SHIFT V with Google. Perhaps try using that keyboard shortcut and see
if auto forms mode is on when your in those settings and change it that way,
or completely remove your specific settings for google.

I often need to turn this off. Probably because I clear my cookies
frequently. Google Instant keeps turning forms mode off as I'm typing even
though I have Jaws forms mode set to manual. Jaws 11. Haven't tried with
12.
