I just had to sign a document regarding a real estate transaction in two places and initial in a third place and all worked without a problem. Yes, my name and initials were already there, probably because I had to sign many things regarding this deal before and the only thing is to make sure you select a signature style and not the draw option which would require you to draw a signature with the mouse.

Re: jaws 2020 not starting correctly.
Hello Patrick:
I think I may have found the solution to your problem.
In JAWS 2020
1. In the "Automatically Start JAWS" dialog box, uncheck the, "Start JAWS at the Logon screen", and set the "Start JAWS after logon: to "Never". Click the 2 OK buttons to close the 2 dialog boxes.
2. Unload JAWS 2020.
In JAWS 2018
3. Load JAWS 2018.
4. In the "Automatically Start JAWS" dialog box, check the, "Start JAWS at the Logon screen", and leave the "Start JAWS after logon: at "Never". Click the 2 OK buttons to close the 2 dialog boxes.
5. Unload JAWS 2018.
Back in JAWS 2020
6. Load JAWS 2020.
7. In the "Automatically Start JAWS" dialog box, leave the, "Start JAWS at the Logon screen", unchecked, and set the "Start JAWS after logon: to "always". Click the 2 OK buttons to close the 2 dialog boxes.
8. restart your computer. Hopefully, after you have entered your password, and pressed the OK button to proceed, (that is, if you use the logon screen), JAWS 2020 will start correctly, after the start up procedure has been completed.
When I looked in the "Automatically Start Jaws" dialog boxes for both JAWS 2018 and 2020, I found the "Start Jaws after logon for this user", was set to "Always", in both versions, why this should b, I do not know.
I will be very interested to hear from you if the above procedure solves your problem.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I am now more convinced than ever, that it is an authorization problem. My internet just went down, and jaws started correctly. I have set the computer to not connect to the internet and it works just fine. When the pc does have an internet connection, it doesn't. I think that, therefore, when it is checking while loading (grace period), it gets into a mess. I will update if i can prove this definitely. Pat

The fact is that you won't have a choice but to upgrade anyways sooner or later and with another Windows 10 update coming very soon it may be sooner rather than later. Even now the emoji panel, for example, is not useable to you with Jaws 2018 and in time there may be other features. If you use Office you will find that it works best with the latest version of Jaws and while I know you said there is always NVDA that is a call you have to make, it wouldn't work for an old Jaws guy like me, I tried it and I just can't get used to how they do stuff. Maybe I don't want to get used to it because I have always kept up my SMA and always used the latest version of Jaws, but once again, that is everybody's choice. All I can say is that is not an issue I have heard about before hence it must be specific to your configuration. I am not usually somebody who says reinstalling Windows from scratch should be your first option, but if you can't or don't want to get a h old of Jaws support to see what they may suggest and if this is a big deal for you otherwise I'd say this maybe an option.

Hi Andrew, i tried that. in jaws 2018, it will let me reactivate using my full licence. it asks me for my actual authorization number. however, when i do this, jaws 2020 is not authorized, as i do not have a valid internet licence for that. this will eliminate the checking and validation of a proper licence, so the problem goes away. i know this, because when i first installed it, it was running in 40 minute mode, and there was absolutely no problem. once i installed the 90 day ilm key, it would not load the jaws window at all after that. as i said, i can quit and restart jaws 2020 and it works fine. i think i am left with two options. one, do as you say and reactivate my jaws 2018 with my old licence and run jaws 2020 in 40 minute mode. two, update to jaws 2020 altogether. if then, the problem goes away, great. if not, i have just wasted the price of an upgrade. regards, pat

Hi Dave,
Yes, i am on the last version of jaws 2018 which is all i am entitled to. I did use the jaws import wizard to copy my shared settings. I have a 90 day ilm key just to try out jaws 2020. Jaws2020 and jaws2018 are now both authorized using the same 90 day key for some reason. With regards to settings etc, i uninstalled both, reinstalled both, removed both again with all settings and shared components, reinstalled jaws2020, but still the problem exists. One peculiar thing though, i started up my computer yesterday from a shutdown, and everything with jaws2020 worked fine. I did the exact same thing just now, and the problem came back. I am convinced at this stage, that it does have something to do with the new "grace period" authorization function introduced in jaws 2019. I think it is loading before it knows for certain whether or not you have a valid key. Sometimes the check works, and sometimes it doesn't and jaws half loads with no actual jaws window. I also think, that it might have something to do with the ilm key, as this is a very old type of authorization for a pc, as against the internet activation method. However, i am not paying for an upgrade until i can get a definite sort-out for this problem. As i said in another post, there is always nvda, but i would rather stay with jaws.
Regards,
Pat

Question 1: With JAWS 18, are you on the last upgrade for your current SMA? Which is why you are using the temporary license for JAWS 2020, so you can try its new and upgraded features?
Question 2: did you use the JAWS function, which copies the settings you set

Hi,
I wasn't aware of this feature, but you could be right. Now that i think of
it, it started right after i installed the temporary authorization (90 days)
that i was given to try it out. That could explain why 2018 works and 2020 doesn't. If it checks while windows is loading, it could be a problem. When i stop and restart it, it is
fine, but then windows is fully up at that time. Any way to disable/check/change this or something?

might that be the JAWS feature touted as new in either 2019 or 2020, saying
that JAWS will speak before checking your authorization, so you don't have to wait so long to hear that it is running. However, it doesn't do anything
till it makes internal checks and decides what context you are running in. So in my opinion it is a totally useless change which FS calls an improvement. At 07:59 AM 4/24/2020, you wrote:

I have tried all this, I tried to post a full message about everything last night, but it was not approved. I think it was too big. If you shut it down (insert+f4) and then restart it, everything is ok. If you don't start it at the login screen, it still produces no window. Pat

It sounds like J2020 is set to start on the log-in screen. If you're saying that there's no Jaws window when you, Alt + tab, you probably have J2020 running from the system tray. To find the settings for both these items press, Insert + J, to open the Jaws context menu, press the letter, O, to open, Options, and press the letter, B, to open, Basic.
Now tab to Automatically start Jaws... button and press the spacebar to find your Jaws start settings and tab to Okay and press the spacebar when you're through in here. Now tab 3 times or so to, Run Jaws from system tray, and uncheck this if you want the Jaws window to be in the, Alt + Tab, order, then tab to Okay and press enter to save / close.

Hi all,
Below is a message I just sent to Zoom Tech Support. If you agree with my opinion, please take a little time to send them similar requests. It’s more effective if several people speak out.

Hello,
I would like to report on a general problem, not specific to any meeting, and make some suggestions. I am blind and use the JAWS screen reader program. Like millions of other people, many blind people have increased their use of the invaluable Zoom platform to stay in touch and conduct business meetings in these challenging times.
As you know, when participants enter and leave meetings, it is announced. I assume visual participants see something on the screen. Screen reader users hear “John Smith has entered the meeting,” or “Sally Jones has left the meeting.” Because we are forced to hear this audio, it often seriously disrupts meetings, especially those with a large number of participants. Presenters who use screen readers are frequently interrupted and thrown off stride. Participants often have to ask presenters to repeat what they just said. It can even be awkward and embarrassing. Imagine yourself in a meeting conducted in a physical conference room. In the middle of a presentation, somebody suddenly blurts out “My name is John Smith and I am leaving the meeting.” He then gets up and walks out the door. Of course, everybody would be shocked at this outrageous behavior. A milder form of this can happen in Zoom meetings. To be perfectly frank, the main reason I leave meetings early is that I no longer think the discussion worth my time. But I don’t want to be forced to publicly proclaim it. One thing I recently figured out is to rename myself as a fake phone number. That way, when I leave nobody knows who I am. But I should not be compelled to resort to such devious behavior.
While there are ways that blind people can mute their screen reader program, that only works for those individuals who know the keystrokes. It does not help improve overall meeting quality for the other participants. And if I am a presenter, I may need to hear my screen reader program, so I must unmute it, causing me to hear this annoying verbiage again.
Giving participants and hosts the option to disable entry and exit notifications would greatly improve the Zoom meeting experience for screen reader users. I would suggest the following specific modifications to the Zoom app on the PC.
For participants:
* In the Settings area accessed through the Home Tab, provide an option for individuals to mute their individual entry/exit notification. * Provide an additional option to mute such notifications for all participants. * In the Participants List area of the Meeting Controls window for meetings you are currently participating in, add a disable entry/exit notifications in the More options for individual participants dropdown.
For hosts:
* In the meetings Tab of the PC app, when scheduling meetings, add an option to disable exit/entry notifications in the Advanced options dropdown. * In the Participants List area of the Meeting Controls window for meetings you are currently hosting, add a disable entry/exit notifications in the More options for All participants dropdown.
It would be advisable to make similar modifications in the appropriate places in the smartphone app.
Thank you for taking time to consider these ideas and hopefully implement them . I strongly believe that if You make these modifications in a future update, it will greatly improve the Zoom meeting experience for blind and visually impaired users of the Zoom Cloud platform.

David Kingsbury

Hi All,
Below is the download link for both 32 & 64 bit systems + what's new in
this release.
Announce Group Changes in Outlook 365 Message Lists
JAWS can now indicate group changes, such as dates or conversations, as you
navigate through message lists. For example, if your Outlook view
settings are set to show messages by date and you are navigating a folder
containing messages covering multiple days, when you move to the first message
in the new date group, you will hear announcements such as "today,"
"yesterday," "last week," or "two weeks ago." To turn on this feature, open
Quick Settings (INSERT+V) while in Outlook and select the Announce Group
Change in Lists check box.
New Focus Braille Display Commands for Adjusting Speech Rate
You can now use the following controls on the Focus braille display to
adjust the speech rate.

SHIFT+LEFT SELECT CHORD • Permanently increase speech rate: RIGHT SELECT
CHORD • Permanently decrease speech rate: LEFT SELECT CHORD list end
New Dialog Box for Troubleshooting Remote Access
JAWS and Fusion now includes a new Remote Desktop dialog box to help
troubleshoot remote access connection issues. It can be accessed from the
Options menu in JAWS or the Support submenu in the Fusion main menu. From
this dialog box, you can:
list of 4 items • See whether or not your Freedom Scientific software is
authorized for remote access. • Check the status for each supported remote
channel (Remote Desktop, Citrix, or VMWare Horizon). • Repair any channel
that is reported to not be working. • Test the connection between the client
and server/remote computers. list end
Other Changes list of 8 items • If Mouse Echo is enabled and you move
over text with the mouse, JAWS or Fusion now only reads the current line as
expected instead of reading everything on the screen. • Book nine of the
JAWS Basic Training, Surf's Up, Surfing the Internet with JAWS, an Introduction,
has been updated to include links to go directly to the Surf's Up web pages.
To get the latest book, select Training from the JAWS Help menu to open the
Training Table of Contents in FSReader, select the link to open book nine,
and then press ENTER when prompted to install the updated book. • Added a new
Quick Settings (INSERT+V) option called List Nesting Level Announcement which is
off by default and available in Chrome and Edge Chromiun. Use this option to
enable the announcement of nesting levels for list items in edit fields on web
pages like Google Docs. • Resolved an issue where JAWS would sometimes exit
Forms Mode when pressing ENTER in some multiline edit fields. • In response
to customer feedback, disabled the announcement of inserted and deleted text on
web pages. • In Microsoft Teams, when you press CTRL+PERIOD to display Teams
hot keys, the Virtual Cursor is now active so you can review the keystrokes as
if you were on a web page. • Addressed a reported issue in the retail
version of Excel 2016 where JAWS would become sluggish after using Paste
Special. • Added updated braille drivers from Humanware containing
performance improvements when using their line of displays with JAWS and
Fusion. list end

A perfect time to get in touch with Freedom Scientific tech support. Even if the issue does lie with Chrome, you can be certain that it's probably not only you it's happened to. Getting a "critical mass" of reports is what gets the ball rolling between companies such as Freedom Scientific and Google on issues such as this. --

Hi, Tom.
If you're using Brian Hartgen's Zoom
scripts with JAWS, including the free scripts, you can
press alt-Windows-S to toggle the speaking of Zoom alerts. Without
those scripts JAWS and NVDA can be set to not speak anything but
the problem with this latter approach is that you then silence
nearly everything else, which is not always ideal or desirable. It
sounds like Zoom is planning to allow users to select which alerts
they do and don't wish to hear. This is particularly nice as this
should work regardless of which screen reader you are using.

Hello,
I would like to report on a general problem, not
specific to any meeting,
and make some suggestions. I am blind and use the JAWS
screen reader
program. Like millions of other people, many blind
people have increased
their use of the invaluable Zoom platform to stay in
touch and conduct
business meetings in these challenging times.
As you know, when participants enter and leave meetings,
it is announced. I
assume visual participants see something on the screen.
Screen reader users
hear “John Smith has entered the meeting,” or “Sally
Jones has left the
meeting.” Because we are forced to hear this audio, it
often seriously
disrupts meetings, especially those with a large number
of participants.
Presenters who use screen readers are frequently
interrupted and thrown off
stride. Participants often have to ask presenters to
repeat what they just
said. It can even be awkward and embarrassing. Imagine
yourself in a meeting
conducted in a physical conference room. In the middle
of a presentation,
somebody suddenly blurts out “My name is John Smith and
I am leaving the
meeting.” He then gets up and walks out the door. Of
course, everybody would
be shocked at this outrageous behavior. A milder form of
this can happen in
Zoom meetings. To be perfectly frank, the main reason I
leave meetings early
is that I no longer think the discussion worth my time.
But I don’t want to
be forced to publicly proclaim it. One thing I recently
figured out is to
rename myself as a fake phone number. That way, when I
leave nobody knows
who I am. But I should not be compelled to resort to
such devious behavior.
While there are ways that blind people can mute their
screen reader program,
that only works for those individuals who know the
keystrokes. It does not
help improve overall meeting quality for the other
participants. And if I am
a presenter, I may need to hear my screen reader
program, so I must unmute
it, causing me to hear this annoying verbiage again.
Giving participants and hosts the option to disable
entry and exit
notifications would greatly improve the Zoom meeting
experience for screen
reader users. I would suggest the following specific
modifications to the
Zoom app on the PC.
For participants:
* In the Settings area accessed through the Home Tab,
provide an option for
individuals to mute their individual entry/exit
notification.
* Provide an additional option to mute such
notifications for all
participants.
* In the Participants List area of the Meeting
Controls window for meetings
you are currently participating in, add a disable
entry/exit notifications
in the More options for individual participants
dropdown.
For hosts:
* In the meetings Tab of the PC app, when scheduling
meetings, add an option
to disable exit/entry notifications in the Advanced
options dropdown.
* In the Participants List area of the Meeting
Controls window for meetings
you are currently hosting, add a disable entry/exit
notifications in the
More options for All participants dropdown.
It would be advisable to make similar modifications in
the appropriate
places in the smartphone app.
Thank you for taking time to consider these ideas and
hopefully implement
them . I strongly believe that if You make these
modifications in a future
update, it will greatly improve the Zoom meeting
experience for blind and
visually impaired users of the Zoom Cloud platform.

Hi,
So, are the announcements of people entering or leaving considered an alert? Like others, I’ve been thrown into learning zoom.
If those are alerts then they can be turned off, but it looks like all alerts will be turned off. This is from pressing insert+h in Zoom with Jaws.
.
Link‑ To enable or disable alerts, press Alt+Windows+S. Link‑ To hear the most recent alert, press Alt+Windows+A. Link‑ To be reminded of whether alert announcements are enabled or disabled, press JAWSKey+Tab. To review the last 10 alerts or messages, press Control+1 through to Control+0. Press twice quickly to virtualise. Link‑ To only allow chat messages when pressing Control+1 through to Control+0 press control+F5.
Functionality has also been added to report: The state of recording when ALT+R is pressed. This is a keystroke which enables or disables the recording. Whether the recording has been paused or is resuming when ALT+P is pressed.
Whether the audio has been muted for all participants when ALT+A is pressed.
The controls for scheduling and creating a meeting should also be easier to understand.

Hi all,
Below is a message I just sent to Zoom Tech Support.

That keystroke works in the free Zoom. Its part of the scripts included in Jaws 2020 for sure since I do not have the pro scripts and it works.

Hi,
Thanks for your response.

Pat

Question 1: With JAWS 18, are you on the last upgrade for your current SMA? Which is why you are using the temporary license for JAWS 2020, so you can try its new and upgraded features?

Hello Patrick:
Which version of JAWS is set to start when Windows starts, JFW 18 or 2020?

Regards,
Pat

Hello Pat:
Question 1: With JAWS 18, are you on the last upgrade for your current SMA? Which is why you are using the temporary license for JAWS 2020, so you can try its new and upgraded features?
Question 2: did you use the JAWS function, which copies the settings you set
in JAWS 18 to JAWS 2020?
