Hi, A shortcut should have been created on your desktop when the new Edge was installed (look for “Microsoft Edge” on your desktop, as that’s the shortcut). Cheers, Joseph

Using Slack with JAWS
Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi All,
If anyone uses Slack with JAWS, I have a question. When someone direct messages me in Slack, I get a notification sound, but I don't hear who contacted me in Slack. Is there any way to have JAWS announce who pinged me? I eventually get an email because I have notifications turned on, but I need to know sooner who tried to contact me. Thanks for any help. Pam

Have you gone to the JAWS help and come down to License sub menu and then pressed enter on Update Activation... If not please try that! Andrew

Jaws2020 and jaws2018 are now both authorized using the same 90 day key for some reason. With regards to settings etc, i uninstalled both, reinstalled both, removed both again with all settings and shared components, reinstalled jaws2020, but still the problem exists. One peculiar thing though, i started up my computer yesterday from a shutdown, and everything with jaws2020 worked fine. I did the exact same thing just now, and the problem came back. I am convinced at this stage, that it does have something to do with the new "grace period" authorization function introduced in jaws 2019. I think it is loading before it knows for certain whether or not you have a valid key. Sometimes the check works, and sometimes it doesn't and jaws half loads with no actual jaws window. I also think, that it might have something to do with the ilm key, as this is a very old type of authorization for a pc, as against the internet activation method. However, i am not paying for an upgrade until i can get a definite sort-out for this problem. As i said in another post, there is always nvda, but i would rather stay with jaws. JAWS 2019 Features Faster JAWS Startup with Grace Period Authorization JAWS 2019 introduces a new concept to help ease the delay in response when JAWS first launches and looks for authorization. In prior versions, JAWS would not fully start until proper authorization was found. Since Authorization can include searching for a network license, the amount of time before JAWS started speaking could be significant. While it is not possible to speed up this period directly, the authorization process will now be completed simultaneously to startup. As JAWS searches for authorization, it enters a new "grace period" authorization state which provides limited functionality, similar to what is available on the logon screen, so you can use speech and braille while authorization discovery takes place. Once the authorization check has finished, JAWS then uses the correct feature set based on the license.

Re: Links, Feature To Read Links Across Verses In a List
Sean Murphy
Let me go into more depth.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Tabindex is the attribute which effects tab order. If this is set to 0, then the way in which the page is loaded into the browser is the tab order. If a positive value is used which is a WCAG 2.1 failure. Then the focus order will change. If a button is activated and this shows new content. Depending on how the developer has developed the page. The content could appear at the bottom of the virtual buffer (been inserted at the end of the dom) or inserted after the button. So the next item Jaws sees is the new content which is correct behaviour. The page should never use a positive value to achieve tab order as it breaks things very quickly. The difference between simple and document mode for Jaws is if the link and other elements are presented on their own lines or not. The default document view you will have links and other elements on different lines when using the down arrow. In document view, the link will be a part of the paragraph text. The tab order is still the same. A lot of web sites use a tabindex -1 to change the tab order of items depending on what you have done on the page. Sean

cisco accessibility of their forum

Hi. Able to login into the cisco forums. But when I try to post, a topic, they have a stupid select a board link, then a mouse over tree view / combo box. So how to then select that with jaws, or nvda. Not able to post, keeps telling me to select a board to continue. Any one come across this one and how to fix. Not able to post a topic. Have tried jaws, nvda, windows narrator, tried chrome, edge, ie, firefox and the same or similar issues when I login. Have notified cisco, and the forums, see if they will fix this issue if not, how to get them to make this more accessible. One of the more serious or poor combo box issues with a form or a forum.
