Mike & Barbara In Arcadia <mb69mach1@...>

Hi All,

For those who are running SuperAnti Spyware Pro, & are having problems
navigating the Interface of the new 5.0 version, you will need to start a
tech support ticket. They have acknowledged that SAS 5.0 is not accessible
with Jaws & if you start a help ticket, explaining that you are blind &
running Jaws, they will send you a direct download link for the prior
accessible version, version 4.56, to install. Hope this helps. Take care.

Terra,

What version of IE? I haven't been following the thread closely enough.

If you completely remove JFW 12 and use IE8 will it read then?

Hi, I have JFW 11 installed on this machine also. I didn't uninstall it,
just JFW 12, and tried to go back to the previous version of JFW 12 before
the latest update, but that's when I ran into the problem of it not reading
anything in internet explorer. I had no idea it would be so complicated to
just go back to a previous version. Had I known the latest version didn't
work correctly with flash content, I never would have updated in the first
place.

Terra,

Do you still have JAWS 11? If so, completely remove JAWS 12, and then do an
install of JAWS 11. After a reboot, do a clean install of the version of
JAWS 12 that you want to use.

I had to do this total exorcism to get back to JAWS 12.0.525 after FS
screwed up Excel 2007.

Yes, I know all you listers are sick and tired of hearing me complain about
Excel 2007. However I use it in my job 4 out of 8 hours a day, and since the

"J" in JAWS is supposed to mean "Job" I find it rather important to
emphasize that point to FS via this forum.

Think "Job" not "Junk".

Terra,

Now you've confused me.

If you wanted to be using version 12.0.522, then why did you check for
updates? That would download 12.0.1669 and you're back where you started.

Turn off the automatic update feature in the JAWS Options/Basics dialog and
stay with the version you install (in your case 12.0.522).

And like David earlier I don't understand the role that Flash plays in your
decision to go back to 12.0.522.

When I re-installed 12.0.525 I re-copied my previous user settings after

I say keep both during install and then overwrite with a backup copy of your

I have a strange problem with JFW. I reverted back to version 12.0.522
because of my annoying problem with flash with the latest version, but now
when I go to internet explorer and try to do anything JFW won't read
anything. I can't see links, it won't read text, nothing. I can do an insert
f7 to get to the links list box, but I can't see anything on the page.
Tabbing doesn't work either. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've made
sure it was in full screen and did a jaws refresh. JFW 11 doesn't seem to
have this problem. Thanks for any help.

Marvin,
Follow the procedure you used in creating your account, then click on "tool
bar change ...." . Tab to "more settings" then type the name you want in the
edit field. (type the name which you would like to give to this account).
Now tab to "ok" then to "finish".

Favourite is the default folder which is opened when you first start
outlook. For quick access , you can pin other folders to the favourite.
To import your contacts there are various ways but I would advise , you
first export your contacts to a file then import it to outlook.
To import your contacts to outlook 2010, do the following:
Go to file menu > open tab > import.
Follow the prompts to import your contacts.
HTH!

sometimes you just have to shut the thing completely down, wait a minute

another thing is to make sure all windows are maximized with it.

Ed,

Good detective work, and yes it makes sense how these keystrokes could
change based on the state of virtual cursor. Now the question still remains:

If I was on the web page and in virtual mode and there was a graphic I
wanted to auto-label (sorry for the run-on) -- how would I do it?

I guess I'd have to route JAWS to the virtual cursor first, and then invoke
the auto-graphic label function.

I think the snakes of Freedom Medusa's hair are becoming more entangled, as
FS tries to accommodate every situation to a keystroke. There are an
infinite number of elements one could wish to have controlled by a
keystroke, but a finite number of keystrokes possible with only 8 fingers
and two thumbs. And only a few modifier keys on a standard keyboard.

From my perspective, and from the perspective of still being royally ticked
with FS's debacle with Excel, I would greatly appreciate them not taking
away key combinations in the interest of creating new ones.

FS -- are you reading? Get some hair-straightener and design consistent
code.

Subject: Method to the FS Madness

Recently, there was a thread on this list discussing use of control plus
JAWS key (insert) plus g.
It seems that the command performs two functions. This seemed to me like a
blatant inconsistency. Well, there is still an inconsistency, but I
accidentally discovered a method to Freedom Scientific's madness.
Within Internet Explorer, and presumably FireFox as well, so-called quick
keys permit one to jump to various elements, both forward and backward.
Those keys are h for header, b for button, r for radio button, g for
graphic, I for item in a list, t for table, and so on. There are a bunch of
them. Add the shift key to any of the foregoing to jump backwards.
The JAWS help system says that any of these quick keys can be converted into
a command to display a list of the selected element just by using control
plus JAWS key (insert) with the letter.
So, control plus insert plus t will produce a list of tables.
But wait a minute!
Control plus insert plus b is the command for Braille options. Control plus
insert plus g is the graphics labeler. Aren't there bound to be
inconsistencies?
So, I ran a little test.
To my surprise, when I pressed control plus insert plus b, even within
Internet Explorer, I got Braille options.
Now, some of you doubtless think I'm about as dense as a Mahogany desk, but
it didn't occur to me immediately what the problem was. Initially, I just
thought FS was flakey. Well, that may be true, but not because of pure
inconsistency with these commands. After trying control plus insert plus b,
I tried control plus insert plus g. Guess what? The graphics labeler started
up.
Then the dawn of understanding illuminated my darkened mind. I had
automatic forms mode turned on, and my cursor was sitting in an edit field.
When I moved out of the edit box and the virtual cursor took over, control
plus insert plus g produced, as expected, a list of graphics. Control plus
insert plus b produced a list of buttons.
So, even within Internet Explorer, the keystrokes can produce completely
different results, depending upon whether or not the virtual cursor is
active. If the virtual cursor is on, insert plus control plus a quick key
will produce a list of the elements related to the quick key. If, however,
forms mode is on, whether triggered automatically or manually invoked, these
keystrokes will produce the results one would expect outside the Internet.
So, when one drills down far enough, there is, indeed, a method to Freedom
Scientific's madness.
Of course, that this whole thing troubled me so much probably gives you
cause to think I'm mad too, but for those who are curious (or as mad as I

did you do a full shutdown and restart?

sometimes you just have to shut the thing completely down, wait a minute (literally) and then fire it back up and you can see a vast difference

another thing is to make sure all windows are maximized with it.

How about trying the completely accessible Google Labs without the
/accessible ending? I just created this results page that way, and it shows

I find google's /accessible versions of its search sites often limiting. For
example, on the regular Google search pages, the /accessible version doesn't
list the number of total hits.

Also, google recently announced that most of the google labs will be going

do a quick google search for something like google labs going away.

For now, you'll have to find other ways to navigate it with jaws.

You type in your search, press enter and when the list of results come up
get this custom google search thing. What I mean is when I try to read the

Do you still have JAWS 11? If so, completely remove JAWS 12, and then do an

JAWS 12 that you want to use.

Yes, I know all you listers are sick and tired of hearing me complain about

Terra,

Some others on this list have said that the only way to have JAWS higher
than 12.0.525 working correctly with Excel is to remove shared and user
settings when installing. I personally find that repugnant.

When I re-installed 12.0.525 I re-copied my previous user settings after

I say keep both during install and then overwrite with a backup copy of your

You may benefit by updating to 12.0.1669. However go to
http://www.freedomscientific.com and check the "What's new" and
"Enhancements and Fixes" files to make sure that WLM has been covered in
releases after 12.0.525. I vaguely recall that there have been some

However it's at the expense of screwing up Excel 2007, so be wary before

nothing being read in internet explorer.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I uninstalled everything and tried an
install of the latest version of JFW 12, and it did the same thing as the
previous version of 12 with regards to not reading in internet explorer. I
then uninstalled it, re-installed jfw 12.0.522 and when I checked for
updates it installed the latest version again, and now it reads in internet
explorer, but I'm still having the problem with flash content. I really want
to be using the previous version, but I have no idea why it is not reading
in internet explorer.

Terra,

Some others on this list have said that the only way to have JAWS higher
than 12.0.525 working correctly with Excel is to remove shared and user
settings when installing. I personally find that repugnant.

When I re-installed 12.0.525 I re-copied my previous user settings after
installing, so that I did not lose any of my customized files.

I say keep both during install and then overwrite with a backup copy of your

previous set of files from your user settings.

Hi, I have removed JFW 12, and installed it again. Do I need to remove my
settings when it asks during the uninstall process? I said to leave them.

You need to completely remove JAWS 12 and install clean. See my message from
several months back.

The latest version isn't working properly with flash, but when I installed
the previous version nothing would read with internet explorer, so I wanted
to see if by updating to the latest version it was fixed, and it did fix the
problem with internet explorer, but not the problems I'm having with flash
content. Doing a clean install of either version leads to the problem of
