Admin: List's current status.
James Homuth
Folks,
I'll start off this message with an appology. Things have been a little more than slightly crazy over here in the non-interner world, and that's kept me off the internet at large for a bit. Unfortunately, our other moderator took this time to be equally inactive, which left you folks to fend for yourselves. Ordinarily that's not a bad thing, but we appear to have a few people who seem to have forgotten what this list is here for. I have, however, returned to active status and will be bringing in at least one moderator more in the very near future. As for right now, it's time to get the list back on track, and off the anything goes policy you folks seem to have decided is appropriate for the list. If it's not related to JAWS for Windows, you will be warned. Once. Then you will be moderated. If it continues, you will be removed. Let's sort this mess out, soonishly please. In the meantime, keep your eyes pealed--the new moderator will be brought in to help out here sometime this week. Message to Freedom Scientific w/r ResearchIt
Dave...
JFW Listers,
I sent this out to the address suggestions@freedomscientific.com I wanted to let them know how I felt about ResearchIt and the way they were implementing fixes to it. If you feel so inclined to send them similar suggestions, I think they need a little adjustment to their strategy. My message: I was momentarily using my copy of JAWS 12 and went to use ResearchIt. It occurred to me that when using a backdated copy of JAWS, some of the ResearchIt fixes carried in later updates were not there. Since ResearchIt is so impacted by underlying web sites to work properly, it is by nature something that will need to be updated and patched frequently -- quite similar to the scripts we all use in JAWS. So my question/suggestion is this: For the benefit of those who are not current, and in keeping with the capability of scripts to be updated irrespective of the version being used, why aren't ResearchIt patches released separately so that they can be applied to any version of JAWS that shipped with ResearchIt? That seems to make sense from two perspectives: 1. Customers are not forced to be stuck with a non-functioning ResearchIt when their only recourse is to pay for an update to a newer major version, and 2. Freedom Scientific need not roll out an update simply due to a need to patch ResearchIt, thus allowing separate development of patches to follow their own release schedule. Please give this some consideration. Dave Carlson Sent from somewhere in the Western United States, using a Dell Latitude E6520 and Windows 7

JFW 13 and Outlook 2010 issue
Cristóbal
Hello list,
I am tackling my new Win 7 machine with Outlook 2010 and have one of my emails set up. I’m having one issue that I’m not sure what may be wrong or if I’ve got some setting that needs adjusting. When composing or replying to a message, the window seems to jump around on me. If it’s a new email, I’ll be typing and after a few words, I’ll find myself in either the start menu or desktop, same message window’s subject field or main Outlook list view. I’m always having to alt tab back to the message window or tab down from the subject field to get back to where I want to type. When replying to an email, I’m always being placed in the original email text below. Again, this is after typing a few words. I don’t’ know what I may or may not be doing and have to the best of my knowledge checked and unchecked whatever necessary checkboxes in order for JFW to better interact with Outlook. I thought I’d ask around here to see if anyone else is experiencing this or if they had any ideas? I’m writing this message on my old machine since the jumping around is making it nearly impossible for me to compose a message on my new one. Thanks, -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.the-jdh.com/pipermail/jfw_lists.the-jdh.com/attachments/20120209/5cc2ce2c/attachment.html>

Ultrabook keyboards
Jean Menzies <jemenzies@...>
I haven't made my purchasing decision yet, and have a question about Ultrabook keyboards. Some reviews indicate that certain keys are doubled up. E.g., the home, end, page up, and page down keys are doubled on to the arrow keys. Can Jaws handle this situation? Or do I need to look for keyboards with dedicated keys?
