Not sure.
One of the most helpful hints with J-SAY was a list of settings. You might see if the J-SAY manual is available on the Web somewhere. If so, getting the settings would be really useful.
Unfortunately, I only have the directions in print and for a little older version. Otherwise, I'd just send to you. Nevertheless, I used them when I set up Naturally Speaking this time, and they worked.
As I recall, there are about 20 or so settings.

Hello Ed. Thanks for your kind help. I think I do have the Dragon bar only
in the system tray by default. I'll try your suggestions for corections
using f10. I didn't know that would work

Sometimes I get a window that says dialog on top of what I'm editing if
Dragon is running but Jaws doesn't quite see it. Wonder if any of the
settings in my first message would stop that.

I didn't know about muting the microphone temporarily with pause. Will try
those keys you suggested.

Hello:
I am writing this e-mail message using Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
One of the most important things to do in Naturally Speaking is to get rid
of the Dragon bar. Actually, the setting is to confine the Dragon bar to
the system tray. Other than to exit Naturally Speaking, I will rarely use
the Dragon Bar.
The next most important setting is to set up hotkeys. For example, I set
Shift Plus F-11 to turn the microphone on and off. I use the pause key
temporarily to silence the microphone.
None of these keys will conflict. In fact, if you buy J-Say, certain
Dragon hotkeys will be suggested, but you can use anything you like. Don't
worry about conflicts.
If you have a good headset microphone which is noise canceling, and if you
can get a little cited assistance to help you through the training, you
really do not need J-Say or J-Tools. I actually own J-Say, but I stopped
using it and uninstalled it. It tended to mess up JAWS, and the
installation package was not ready for prime time.
It was particularly problematic to install in a corporate environment with
heavy duty security settings. In fact, I don't think I ever got a good
installation of J-Say.
Now, I will dictate an entire document, such as this e-mail message, and
then go back and proofread it with speech off. I never used the JAWS
cursor for anything. When I find a word that is wrong, I tend to highlight
the word and then press F10. That brings up a dialog box which, initially,
contains an edit field. If you know how to spell the correct word, just
type it in and hit enter.
If you don't, hit tab and then arrow up and down through the choices. Once
you have identified the term which is most appropriate, you can either hit
enter or hit tab to times to the okay button. I hope this helps.

Hi.

Please. What settings below work best with Jaws with and without J-Tools
or
J-Say?
Jaws 12, DNS Premium 11.5, Win XP MCE.

It would be very good to have comments and information on how each item
and
choice below effects the basic functionality of Jaws without special
scripts. Then, how the same settings effect J-Tools and J-Say.

I don't have J-Tools or J-Say yet. Sometimes I can work the spelling
dialog
with the Jaws cursor but I have some difficulty knowing when the dialog
appears. Also have some trouble with the main standard Dragon toolbar.
There is a "microphone buttonbutton" that doesn't appear to activate, no
matter how I do it with spacebar or enter. I do have DNS set to start
with
the microphone ready to turn on by voice but sometimes I need to use the
toolbar or the system tray. Sometimes the system tray microphone button
won't activate and doesn't turn on the microphone. It's also a lot of
messing around. I could set up DNS hot keys but don't want to conflict
with
Jaws or the scripts if and when I get them. Suggestions for hotkey
combinations also welcome.

Even switching focus to the Dragon bar is a bit confusing because Jaws
doesn't say a thing and I always have to press tab once to get to that
button.

I've written to the Jaws list first as I don't have the scripts so far.
Hope this is ok.

downloading google books

I suspect that our ever diligent moderators may be quick to nip this thread in the bud, but If any of you have any ideas how to download Google books in epub file format to a computer using Jaws version 12, I would appreciate any ideas. If you think you have some ideas, but you think they may be not relevant to this list, I would very much appreciate any private responses. .

Thanks,

Re: Annoying articulation of Mouse over

Mike & Barbara <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Again,

Sorry, I forgot to add the steps for Jaws versions prior to Jaws12 for
stopping the announcing of mouse over.
1. Open the configuration manager, control, shift, + D, for default manager,
Alt + S, to open user options.
2. Arrow down to, HTML options,
& press enter, or just press the
letter H, after opening user options.
3. Control + Tab, to the Misc. tab.
4. Tab to, indicate element attribute, & uncheck this box if it is
checked.
5. Tab to okay, press the spacebar or enter, press control + S, to save
your changes, & press Alt + F4 to close the configuration manager.

HTH
Take care.

Re: Annoying articulation of Mouse over

Gary King

Ed,
Mike's suggestion will turn off the mouse over announcement everywhere. I like to handle this announcement as well as the detection of Flash on a web site specific basis. When I'm on the page that is annoying me with these announcements, I press Shift plus JAWS Key plus v to bring up my Verbosity Menu. When you make the change this way, it is saved for that web site only. I have actually found some instances of mouse over that conveyed useful information. And, I certainly wouldn't want to be without Flash to listen to those book samples on AUDIBLE.COM.

Re: c cleaner and Jaws

Jim L

Don't know the answer to that all I can advise is I did do a registry clean
with the latest c cleaner and ended up having issues which after a few
problems did a system restore which am always reluctant to do, still have
version 2.28 installed on my PC and that's working fine with Jaws being able
to speak all check boxes normally, what I want to find out without having to
install all versions of C Cleaner from 2.28 what was the last version that
does exactly the way 2.28 does smoothly speak check boxes, as I don't check
a lot of my boxes only a few and don't really be able to tell what I've
checked or unchecked without doing every individual box on the
windows/application lists

Cheers,

Jim

This reminds me. What exclusions should be added to CCleaner to
prevent the registry cleaner from messing up Jaws or any FS products. I've
already excluded Jaws program files folders but wonder what registry keys
should be excluded.

Re: Jaws 12 with Dragon Naturallyspeaking 11.5

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Hello:
I am writing this e-mail message using Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
One of the most important things to do in Naturally Speaking is to get rid of the Dragon bar. Actually, the setting is to confine the Dragon bar to the system tray. Other than to exit Naturally Speaking, I will rarely use the Dragon Bar.
The next most important setting is to set up hotkeys. For example, I set Shift Plus F-11 to turn the microphone on and off. I use the pause key temporarily to silence the microphone.
None of these keys will conflict. In fact, if you buy J-Say, certain Dragon hotkeys will be suggested, but you can use anything you like. Don't worry about conflicts.
If you have a good headset microphone which is noise canceling, and if you can get a little cited assistance to help you through the training, you really do not need J-Say or J-Tools. I actually own J-Say, but I stopped using it and uninstalled it. It tended to mess up JAWS, and the installation package was not ready for prime time.
It was particularly problematic to install in a corporate environment with heavy duty security settings. In fact, I don't think I ever got a good installation of J-Say.
Now, I will dictate an entire document, such as this e-mail message, and then go back and proofread it with speech off. I never used the JAWS cursor for anything. When I find a word that is wrong, I tend to highlight the word and then press F10. That brings up a dialog box which, initially, contains an edit field. If you know how to spell the correct word, just type it in and hit enter.
If you don't, hit tab and then arrow up and down through the choices. Once you have identified the term which is most appropriate, you can either hit enter or hit tab to times to the okay button. I hope this helps.

Jaws 12, DNS Premium 11.5, Win XP MCE.

It would be very good to have comments and information on how each item and
choice below effects the basic functionality of Jaws without special
scripts. Then, how the same settings effect J-Tools and J-Say.

I don't have J-Tools or J-Say yet. Sometimes I can work the spelling dialog
with the Jaws cursor but I have some difficulty knowing when the dialog
appears. Also have some trouble with the main standard Dragon toolbar.
There is a "microphone buttonbutton" that doesn't appear to activate, no
matter how I do it with spacebar or enter. I do have DNS set to start with
the microphone ready to turn on by voice but sometimes I need to use the
toolbar or the system tray. Sometimes the system tray microphone button
won't activate and doesn't turn on the microphone. It's also a lot of
messing around. I could set up DNS hot keys but don't want to conflict with
Jaws or the scripts if and when I get them.

This reminds me. What exclusions should be added to CCleaner to prevent the registry cleaner from messing up Jaws or any FS products. I've already excluded Jaws program files folders but wonder what registry keys should be excluded.

This bugs me too and I'm running Jaws 12. Would also like to know what the last version that worked best with Jaws is so we can tell the developer.

Heya folks,

What is the best version of C Cleaner that works well with Jaws 11?
I've noticed the latest version check boxes aren't spoken automatically and
one has to double check every item to know either way which becomes so
tiresome.

cheers,

Jim

Hello, I think it is to be able to catch an error message and paste into an email, but some of the key strokes were not easy unless you were nimbled fingured. I also think the Print button does something like taking a screen shot of the problems. However although I once did that I have lost the knack,of course you may mean something quite different regards dorothy

Yes, it is called virtualizing the current window. The current command, however, is JAWSKEY plus Alt plus W.
At one point, in some earlier version I think, it was JAWSKEY plus control plus W; however, I just tried it, and that command, JAWSKEY plus control plus W brings up some sort of word list.
I'm not sure what the word list is used for. That's where my knowledge stops.

WinTV and JAWSHi, listers,

Marilyn Rushton <mr.lists@...>

Happy Labour Day!

Has anyone tried using WinTV with JAWS? It seems totally and completely
inaccessible to me, but I thought I'd ask the experts.

With thanks,

Marilyn.

Firefox Open Link In New Tab

James Lee

Hi,

In IE, I can press ctrl+enter to open link in new tab, but it doesn't work in Firefox.
If I want to open link in new tab on Firefox, I have to find the link with Jaws Cursor, right click, and choose open link in new tab.
Does anyone know a faster way to do this in Firefox?
Thanks,

JL

Re: Groups?

Daniel, for some reason, not all of my message came through. The first part
of it read something like "I believe you need facebook contacts first in
order to form them into groups." In short, to form a group when there was no
one to place in that group would be miraculous indeed, hence the reference
to the miracle of turning water into wine--my corny sense of humor.

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately, that is the way it is for all Jaws versions with any version
of CCleaner, at least, that is what I have experienced. CCleaner is updated
regularly, but the situation doesn't improve. Take care.
