Re: Jaws in a call center environment

Mike Mote <mikemote@...>

Ted, I have looked at the Alpine Access job requirements, and honestly, I think it's better than most set-ups out there, in that you use your phone line to take the calls, and use the computer to access the customer's information. At least that's what it sounds like. I may get the chance to find out. I've applied for a couple of positions. I know Cloud 10 is not accessible with jaws.

Re: jaws and excel:

michael grove <attackfisherman1@...>

Ok first you will not be able to increase the cell size to a particular
pixel . Also you will find the a few of the more ribbon tabs will not say
more, then when u navigate into them they will not read. These were things
that we did not have to use in the class very much. I was glad of that.
Sometimes I was to point and click on an arrow in a tab and that I coul not
figure out a way to do. And if you need to posision your field or table on
a specific place on the worksheet I was unable to do this. The way it was
accomplished was to grab the corner of the slected table and drag it to a
specific spot. Excell is a great program, but I hope I will not have to use
it to the degree that we did in class. There is a lot to remember with
navigateing the pages.

Try disabling the preview paine.
Windows key e for windows explore, shift tab twice until you hear command
modual toolbar organize button and right arrow until you hear preview pain
and if the box is checked, uncheck it.
Please write back if it works.

Hi

Got me a nasty problem I need to solve before the weekend as I have a 2-day
class to take.

New Dell laptop running Windows 7 64bit.

Latest Jaws 12 as well as 13 beta and the problem is the same in both.

If I open windows explorer I am fine till I open a folder that has files in
it. Then explorer crashes and I get error that says

Windows explorer not responding.

This does not happen if jaws is not running.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Oscar

Re: Jaws in a call center environment

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

So, what phone system works well with JAWS. I don't work in a call center environment, but I have lots of occasions to need to review the screen, listening to JAWS, while also talking on the phone.
None of the soft phone solutions I've tried, in an office environment (not exactly a call center environment) works all that well.

Hi folks! I wanted to ask if anyone has ever used jaws in a call center
work environment. I may be taking a job soon that requires me to work
in a virtual call center. I'm really interested to see how jaws reacts.
Anyone ever had experience with this before?

Rob Hill

I work in such a setting. We have my phone and computer audio connected through a device. I have been helped trememndously by our in-house tech staff in consultation with the local JAWS distributor to have JAWS workable with or on-line data base. It's taken a lot of customizing, despite the software producer's insistance that the program is JAWs-Ffriendly.

Good luck.

Never tried working from home, although we floated the idea a while
back. The hang up was not JFW, but the soft phone arrangement. I
needed some sort of one-touch option for answering. By the time one
switched to the appropriate app, and fumbled for the JAWS cursor, that
call would be gone to voice mail. We never got the problem resolved, so
here I remain with my huge VOIP telephone with the easily accessible
buttons. This was to have been a contingency plan for bad weather, as I
work 50 miles from home.

Ted, thanks for responding. I'd be interested to know how well JFW
works in
a work from home virtual call center environment. I've seen jobs
available
with Alpine Access. I tried working with Cloud 10, and that didn't work
well at all. If you'd be so kind, I'd like to know first how to find
jobs
with companies that have software that works with jaws, and how JFW
works in
these situations.

You'd better know it. I've been a Medicaid customer service rep and
trouble shooter since 1994, and a JAWS user since April, 1997. I'd be

Often when I do a JAWS Find after I get to the page I want to go to, it
doesn't find the text, I hear a beep, then afterwards JAWS won't work on the
page at all. It is just as if the screen were frozen.

Hi, Rick.

After you click on the link, do you navigate down the page in search of
that
text? I find such webpages operate inconsistently, but usually (not
always)
the text I want appears further down. Sometimes a JAWS find for the
heading
gets me there. Other times, it takes the down arrow key and navigation
commands such as p an n.

However, on one website I use frequently, the text doesn't appear at all
to
JAWS, even though it's on the screen, and none of my PDF tactics works. I
hope that isn't the case for you in this instance.

This year, my employer, instead of sending out a print copy of its open
enrollment handbook with the summary of medical benefits for 2012, has
made
its open enrollment handbook available only online, and I am having a
terrible time navigating it. Whenever I go to the link in the Table of
Contents for the page I want to read, I hit the Enter key and wait for the
page to load. But when it does, I always find myself still on the Table
of
Contents page instead of on the page I really want to read. Am I doing
something wrong, or is the handbook in such a format that JAWS can't read
it?

Try disabling the preview paine.
Windows key e for windows explore, shift tab twice until you hear command
modual toolbar organize button and right arrow until you hear preview pain
and if the box is checked, uncheck it.
Please write back if it works.

Subject: windows explorer crashing on win 7 when jaws running

Hi

Got me a nasty problem I need to solve before the weekend as I have a 2-day
class to take.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Oscar

Re: windows explorer crashing on win 7 when jaws running

Dave...

No ideas, but similar problems. However in my case it only crashes every
couple days or so. Dell E6520, Windows 32-bit. Closing Explorer and then
re-opening resolves.

Suggest you go through your Tools/options/view dialog and start working with
some of the settings to see if you can spot something that might be causing
the problem.

Re: Java 6 and Access Bridge

Allen Stutts <astutts@...>

I will tell you that I had to have my IT person install it because the first step was to turn off all assistive technology. I could not copy and paste the files from the zip folder or delete the same files that already existed in Windows XP while Jaws was running. However once Jaws was turned off, she was able to do so, but it still didn't work for the program I'm trying to access.

Subject: Java 6 and Access Bridge

I've run into a problem installing the new version of Access Bridge,
which I discovered after installing the current Java update this
morning. I hope some of the following will save JAWS users some time
and trouble, but I'm also posting to seek help for the last step. FYI,
I'm using XP 32-bit
(redundant) and the latest update of JAWS 12.

1. The Java update proceeded normally until the installation stage. Be
warned: there's a checkbox here to authorize notifications of some kind
from Facebook. The default is checked. Once I unchecked the box (my
preference) and pressed spacebar on "Next," the installation went smoothly.

2. Then the alert appeared that for the changes to take effect, I had
to reboot. However, when I selected this option, I was taken to the
Java website and informed that I had out-of-date Java programs on my
system that are a security risk and so must be removed. The website
searched my system and found twelve items to remove via the control panel
add/remove programs.
I copied the list into an off-line document and went through the
time-consuming process of removing them. By the time I'd finished,
other than Access Bridge, the only Java program left was Java(TM) 6 update
29.

Tip: On XP, when the program you want to remove appears in the list,
tab five times to the remove button.

3. Then I rebooted.

4. Previous Access Bridge instructions indicated that whenever Java was
updated, Access Bridge has to be reinstalled. However, I learned
recently that Access Bridge has been updated to version 2.0.2. Here's a
link to the Oracle/Sun Micro webpage that explains how to download and
install this
version:
http://download.oracle.com/javase/accessbridge/2.0.2/setup.htm

5. downloading is routine. However, Access Bridge 2.0.2 is a zip file.
When I unzipped it, I got a folder full of files. The ReadMe file
consists of a link that I copied just above. The first instruction is
to remove existing copies of Access Bridge. This part was routine, but
required a second reboot to finish.

6. Now to the problem. I am baffled by the Access Bridge 2.0.2
installation instructions. Instead of a wizard, we are told to copy
several files into several different Windows and Java folders, or so I
understand it. To my mind, some of these instructions are
contradictory, but presumably they make sense to a technophobe. I'm
copying the installation instructions below and ask if anyone can explain
and simplify them.

Installing Java Access Bridge for Windows 32-Bit

Follow these steps to install Java Access Bridge 2.0.2 on a Microsoft
Windows 32-bit system:

1.
Copy the following files to the specified destination directories,
where %WINDOWSHOME% is the directory where Microsoft Windows is
installed (for example, C:\WINDOWS), and %JAVAHOME% is the directory
where your JDK or JRE is installed. The following are examples of
directory names for Java SE 6 Update 24:

*
JDK: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_24\jre

*
JRE: C:\Program Files\Java\jre6
