router installation with Jaws?

Crystal French

Hi,
I have never installed a router, but always had someone sighted to do that.
The router I am now using with my windows7 computer seems to have issues. The range doesn’t seem very good and trying to connect with my Braille Note Apex, or iPhone, etc. gets random results.
I had a D link router prior to this one.
I am using Jaws 13, and wondering if installation might be a problem.
If anyone has suggestions, it would be appreciated. Otherwise, I’ll probably just have to pay someone to do it.
Thanks,
Crystal

Re: JAWS 14...?

Bissett, Tom <tom.bissett@...>

Unfortunately there are so many versions of everything and so many levels of expertise that it is almost imposible to cover everything.
Even though persons are running what appears to be the same versions of jaws and operating system they seem to act differently, probably because of other things running on the computer or as Eric pointed out that people don't keep current with patches and updates on their operating systems.
So if you have people running XP it doesn't mean that they are on the same service pack version. It all has an impact.
I have installed the update, deleted some stuff out of my personal folder and things appear to be running just fine.

Tom Bisset

Reading all these messages makes me nervous about installing JAWS 14.
Doesn't Freedom Scientific have any sort of quality control so previous parts of the program, which work properly, are retained and the "hot fix"
doesn't mess up something else? I also thought that beta testing was done to find problems with the program, before release. If this is done, then why is a hot fix needed so soon after the release of JAWS 14?

I've been a JAWS user for at least 15 years and probably won't change now.
But, I can understand why others are abandoning ship for other options. We pay a premium price for JAWS, but the money is apparently not going to development and quality control.

Hi, all.

At work, I am getting increasing numbers of scanned image PDF files.

I have the K1000 software from Kurzweil, but still need to get a scanner
to
interface with that program.

In the meantime, can someone give me a quick summary of the key commands
that are used to do the OCR recognition via Jaws 13 in Windows 7, at least
for the time being?

I consulted the help file in Jaws 13, but got what seemed to be confusing
instructions.

The help file said to use the insert key, plus the space bar and the
letter
S to start the reading, but I could never get it to work. Perhaps I'm
doing

the key conbination incorrectly.

Again, I'm using Jaws 13, with Windows 7.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have just uninstalled the hotfix and gone back to:

J14.0.918-64bit.exe

However it is playing up with the virtual cursor and IE9 and Outlook 2010.

It just says blank page in IE and won't read emails either.

Has perhaps the video intercept got corrupted but I can't find where you fix
that? Where do I go?

I am on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

Thanks,
Dale.

I have also ran into this problem with JAWS 13. Its usually some sort of
message asking if I am sure I want to leave the web page. Nothing I do with
the keyboard seems to effect this window. However, a simple click of the
mouse and I am ready to go. Speech returns and JAWS acts like nothing has
happened. It is curious.

Hello folks! I'm having an issue on my work computer. I use windows 7,
along with Jaws 13 and at least once a day, IE encounters a problem, and
wants to close the particular web-page that I am on. When this happens,
JAWS stops speaking. I have to utilize sighted assistance to click the
message. Once that happens, JAWS works right again. Left to my own
devices, if this error occurs, I have to do a hard reboot of my computer
system. I hate doing this, because I'd rather shut the computer down
properly. Any suggestions? I know it is a rather odd problem. One that I
do not encounter on my home computer.

Re: Latest JFW 14 upgrade and bugs

Robin Frost <robinni71@...>

Hi,
I’m not having the bugs mentioned thus far but am having one of my own which I’ll add to the mix.
Taken from the enhancements for this release of JFW info we have:
“• Resolved multiple customer reported issues where pages and forms were not automatically refreshing as expected unless INSERT+ESC was used to manually
refresh the screen.”
I never had any issues regarding that before but I sure have one like that now. when I attempt to invoke either the jfw find command to search for a word on a web page or endeavor to bring up the links list on a web page or within an email (anywhere the virtual cursor is present) jfw doesn’t verbalize that the edit box for finding or the links list has become available or has come into focus until I use insert escape to refresh the screen and even then the links list does not verbalize when one arrows through its entries. The only way I can know what links appear in it or which links I’m on is to do a say line.
This is not good. I will be reporting this to FS today.
Robin

Hello

I registered my email into jfw mailing list successfully and I could
get a
mail from jfw (daily response report) but I could not get any mail from
members in mailing list.

Could you tell me the reason and give me a solution for this?

Thank you very much.

Dung Nguyen.

Try to find it in control panel and repair or uninstal it, then grab
the dvd and reinstal, or if you don't have it I wil send you the file.

When go back to Jaws13 it will read things though.

Hi,

I have just uninstalled the hotfix and gone back to:

J14.0.918-64bit.exe

However it is playing up with the virtual cursor and IE9 and Outlook 2010.

It just says blank page in IE and won't read emails either.

Has perhaps the video intercept got corrupted but I can't find where you
fix
that? Where do I go?

I am on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

Thanks,
Dale.

Re: Latest JFW 14 upgrade and bugs

Aidan Maher <aidan.smarttalk@...>

Wel the thing is that the copy of the previous version should be on
the pc wile you instal 14, and you must choose to leave shaired
components dearing instal. I hope it can be fixed, as freedom like to
choose wich bugs to fix and wich not. From the downloads page, select
jaws, and from there, select the archives, then you can get to 13 and
earlier.

Hi,

I have just installed (wish I hadn't) the latest Jaws update.

Now it won't read when I alt tab on the computer and tell me which
programs
I'm going between.

Can this be fixed? Is there a new setting somewhere?

Alternatively do you know where the download is of the previous jaws
version? I can't find the previous version on the FS website.

Thanks,
Dale.

Anyone has a solution?

The links list does not come up when you press insert-f7.
Also, the jaws menu does not speak as you arrow down through it. You have
to read current line on each choice.

Re: Video intercept driver: Latest JFW 14 upgrade and bugs

Chairman Mal <chairmanmal@...>

Hello from Austin,
I'm authorized to download JFW 14, but its not working. Perhaps I should wait, but FS tech support told me that I lack service pack two, and that's preventing 14 to latch onto something it needs to work properly. Should I try to get service pack two and try JFW 14 again or wait until the bugs are fixed?
