Re: recording using jaws

Dave...

I think you either need a sound card that allows you to separate JAWS from
the other audio to right and left channels only, or else you need to install
a second sound card and use one for JAWS and the other for
playback/recording.

Hi,

So, does anyone know how to record an audio tutorial that when playing it
back, you will not hear the screen reader during the recording?

Basically, what I am wanting to do is record something but jaws will come
out of my headset while recording but when I am done, play it back, you will
hear the voice but not the screen reader.

I have been toying and looking around under the play back and recording tab
in the control panel to see what I can accomplish and sheesh, am I spinning
my wheels here because nothing is working.

I am not an audio nerd, so just trying to learn something different.

Thanks.

Re: VB6 Application Problem

Jonathan Ross <jonathan@...>

Thank you for the feedback. Moving between the open Windows is not a
problem as they are all listed in a "Window" menu in the main application
window, which makes switching between forms simple. Also, I have JAWS
scripts setup that use the SetRestriction function to further restrict the
JAWS cursor to the current form window, and that works for this user.
However, we are looking at ways to improve the overall accessibility of
the application without needing a lot of JAWS scripts. Therefore, I am
interested in figuring out whether or not the JAWS cursor reading outside
of the current form or document window is typical behavior for JAWS in VB6
applications or if there is some property of the form window that can be
changed to prevent this.

Two ideas come to mind:

1. As I recall, the key combination alt-hyphen enables the cursor to move
into and between child windows.

2. You can reduce or expand the territory that the JAWS cursor covers by
activating the JAWS cursor with the numpad minus key, then by rotating
through the options with JAWS key+r.

I am hoping to get some help from someone familiar with developing VB6
applications. I am working with a JAWS user who is using an application
created in Visual Basic 6. This application has a main application window
in which multiple forms windows can be open at one time. The forms are of
various fixed sizes, so when the focus is in one of the smaller forms,
parts of the other forms are visible on either side of the current form.
This is not a problem, except that there are times when he needs to be
able to read within the current form using the JAWS cursor. When he does
this, the JAWS cursor is not staying within the boundaries of the current
form (it reads and can move to text from the forms that are showing below
the current form). I don't believe this is typical behavior for JAWS.

We do not have this problem with dialog boxes in this application, as they
are modal. Making the other forms modal is not an option as the users
need to be able to move between open forms.

I am wondering if there is some property on these forms that needs to be
changed so that JAWS will recognize and stay within the boundaries of the
current window. The application developer is willing to look at making
changes if I can tell them specifically what to try. I am not a developer
myself and I don't have access to any VB6 development tools with which to
experiment, so I am hoping someone on this list with VB6 experience may
know what to do.

Sincerely,

No, you want the sidebar visible. When you go to the view menu, if it
says
Show side bar, press enter on it to show it. If it says hide sidebar,
then
it is showing and you're good to go. When it is showing, then you can
down
arrow through music, books, TV, etc., whatever you have there, and
you'll go
past the store where you hear that sound, and then you get to your
device
where you can sync, etc.

Go to the view menu and turn on the side bar. Then the sync will be
back
as
before. If you choose not to do that, use NVDA, there is an iPhone
button
that Jaws doesn't read, but NVDA does. That's the button you need to
click
if you don't turn on the side bar. I forget where that button is,
but I
believe it was when tabbing through from the music choice. Just turn
on
the
side bar and it will pretty much be as previous versions were. You
can
then
arrow down to your device.

Hi,

Strictly opinion of course, what methods are people using to sink
content
from their computer over to their iPhone, let's say music?

This new iTunes was a pain at first to navigate but I managed to
find
everything that I was looking for, accept sinking from my comp to
the
phone.
Thoughts?

Not only that. We are now directed to hyde the menu bar. I much prefer scripts that work with unmodified interfaces or defaults but idealy can handle user changes to the views.

No, you want the sidebar visible. When you go to the view menu, if it says
Show side bar, press enter on it to show it. If it says hide sidebar, then
it is showing and you're good to go. When it is showing, then you can down
arrow through music, books, TV, etc., whatever you have there, and you'll go
past the store where you hear that sound, and then you get to your device
where you can sync, etc.

Strange, I can not find this plugin on the official Winamp site.

Also, their search engine is crazy.

I searched for timerestore as one word and got no results.
Then I searched for time restore as 2 words and got this...

Your search for "time%2520restoreSearch%2520for%2520Add-o..." returned no results.

Are they nuts!

I don't trust Winamp plugins. I have a bunch of old ones in my backup that have been flagged by Super anti spyware as having a trogan downloader.

Some of these plugins aren't supported any more.

I want to like winamp as it does so many things well. It just seems to me like they are abandoning what used to work.

Here is a plug-in that may help. It is called TimeRestore.
1. First download the archive from
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5176021/TimeRestoreForWinamp.zip
2. Close winamp if it is opened.
3. Extract the contents to
C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins.
4. Start winamp and open the preferences window.
5. Find there Autoplay Options in the tree. You may use the letter "a".
6. Tab to see and change the different options to your like.

Not to dicker, but for those of us who are using BlindTunes, for better or

No, you want the sidebar visible. When you go to the view menu, if it says
Show side bar, press enter on it to show it. If it says hide sidebar, then
it is showing and you're good to go. When it is showing, then you can down
arrow through music, books, TV, etc., whatever you have there, and you'll go
past the store where you hear that sound, and then you get to your device
where you can sync, etc.

that Jaws doesn't read, but NVDA does. That's the button you need to click

Hi,

Strictly opinion of course, what methods are people using to sink content
from their computer over to their iPhone, let's say music?

This new iTunes was a pain at first to navigate but I managed to find
everything that I was looking for, accept sinking from my comp to the
phone.
Thoughts?

You don't really need the scripts. They're nice, but you can do things
without them too. It just seems to be a very visual interface and is kind of
clunky for screenreaders. But then my sighted husband doesn't like it much
either. I use it very rarely and do everything from my phone anyway. But
everyone uses it differently.

I better join the Blindtunes beta list.

Re: win amp

Robert Logue <bobcat11@...>

Then let it depend. That wasn't specified in the question. It's not a big
deal to turn it on or off. So, people should just try it and see if it works
or not. The FS Cast on iTunes 11 recommends it be on, and that's obviously
without scripts. I would think or hope that people would check the help
documentation that comes with the Blind Tunes scripts for best optimization.
