Stephanie and everyone:

Microsoft announced a few months ago, they were discontinuing MS Messanger after April 2013.

They also announced, that anyone using MS Mesanger, will be able to migrate their MS Messanger information into Skype.

I've heard skype is going to replace MSN messenger anyway. I don't
know if it's true, but it'd make since because Microsoft now owns
skype. :)

Hi.
As I understand it windows live messenger
will be closing in a couple of months.
Do you have a suggestion on another place to
chat with my friends and other people?
I've tried facebook, and then using skype with
my msn contacts, but this doesn't work so well.
SO, if there is another good place to chat that
I can bring my friends to that would be good.

Good afternoon!

I apologize if this has already been covered, but does the new version of
Blind Tunes handle being able to sync audio books to the iPhone again?

Something in iTunes 11 will not let me add audio books from the audio books
radio button under my device. I see e-pub books and such, but when I tab to
find a list of audio books so I can choose which ones to add to my device,
it goes straight to the list of content on my device.

Thanks for the info!

Just a heads up. Blind Tunes 4.0 for iTunes 11 is finished and in private
beta right now. So far it is living up the expectations. I am putting the
final touches on it and will be releasing it soon.
If you can do translations for it, you get a free copy. It's only $5.99

Tom,

On that model Dell Latitude "D" series you unfortunately cannot disable
both
the touchpad and touchstick using the mouse properties dialog. One or the
other is always on. There is no Fn + key combination to do this.

However a sighted person can completely disable this in BIOS, which is
very
not accessible to me. I had to have my IT specialist at work do this for
me
when I had my D630.

Re: David's question about Outlook and JAWS 14

David Greene <revdgreene@...>

Hi Patricia.
Thanks for the tip. I also picked up another tip from another Jaws user.
When in the To field, press the first letter of the name you desire and
press the alt K combination. This brings up all names in the contact list
starting with that letter. Select the desired name and press enter and it
is there and will appear automatically the next time you need to use that
name.

Hi David:

When entering an email address in the "to" field, is this someone you are
trying to enter as a contact from within your contacts list or from an email
that you have replied to in the past? Outlook has a memory for
names/addresses of people that you have sent email to in the past, and if
you enter the first few letters of those JAWS should announce those. I know
you said that you've checked all the boxes, but just to cover all bases the
box that should be checked here is "address list auto complete
announcement." I personally have had no success with getting JAWS to
announce addresses that have come from within my contacts list.

I hope this is somewhat helpful. Feel free to email off list should you have
other questions and I might be able to help.

Patricia

Hi Howard,

Here you go.

This first link is a download link to an audio tutorial on CCleaner;

http://www.jaws-users.com/audio/Utilities/bct1068CCleaner.mp3

This second link is a download link to the tutorial contained in this post;

http://www.jaws-users.com/text/Disk/CCleaner.html

Below are steps on using the CCleaner program written by Brian Lee.

Yes, CCleaner works very well with JAWS. The program is set up in a standard
dialog box structure where you can use the tab key and shift-tab to move
forward
and backward through a dialog box. You can also use the Alt key with the
underlined letter of a control to activate it so that you don't have to tab
to
the control and press spacebar or enter. For example, Alt-R activates the
"Run" button, which starts the scanning and removal process for the page of
the
dialog box that is active, which is the Windows page when you first start
the program. When you first use the program and press Alt-R a child dialog
box
will appear with the OK button in focus. If you use the tab key you can move
to a checkbox for telling the program not to show this confirmation box, and
check it by pressing spacebar. After checking the box tab to the OK button
and press spacebar. JAWS will announce the percentage of completion as the
program
scans and removes items, but quite often after hearing "100 percent"
scanning and removal will begin for another area of the computer, so you
should wait
a few seconds after hearing JAWS say 100 percent to see if it starts
announcing percentage progress again. If you route the JAWS cursor to the PC
cursor,
do a page up, and use down arrow to the line under where the "Windows tab
and applications tab" are shown, you will hear whether or not cleaning is
complete.
This might vary a little on different systems, but the scanning complete
notice should be given on a line not far under the page tabs.

After you have made the PC cursor active again you can use tab or shift tab
to move to where JAWS says "Windows tab" and use right arrow to move to the
Applications page tab. Use Alt-R again to run the program in this page.

Before running the program you probably want to set the program to only
remove the types of items you want removed. After opening the program and
before
invoking the "run" button, use Shift-tab to move to the tree view of
choices. If you use the shift-tab then you will find the tree view of
choices after
you hear the page tabs announced. Use down arrow in the tree view and check
or uncheck items using the spacebar. For example, if you don't want all
cookies
removed then be sure to uncheck the cookies choice. You can always remove
tracking cookies with a different program such as Super Anti- Spyware or
Ad-Aware.
Keep using down arrow through the choices in the tree view and use spacebar
to check or uncheck items. the checkmark means that those types of items
will
be removed, if not checked then those items will be left alone. I think you
can feel pretty comfortable with the default settings, although if you don't
want the recycle bin emptied then you might uncheck that item, or if you
don't want "auto complete form history" deleted then you can uncheck that
box,
etc. The only one I have unchecked in the Internet Explorer list of items is
the cookies choice, as I only want tracking cookies removed.

If you use tab key to move to the page tabs and right arrow to the
"applications tab", you can then use shift-tab to move back to the tree view
and find
a list of programs that have cached temporary files that you can remove. If
you want to uncheck any of these choices then use down arrow and uncheck the
box, but I think that you probably will just want to leave the default
settings.

After you have set your choices they will remain as set for subsequent times
when you use the program. Each time you run the program you will only need
to use the run command by pressing Alt-R for the Windows page of the dialog
and then move to the applications page and perform the run command with
Alt-R.

Take care and have a great day!

Brian Lee
Go Back
Take care.

David's question about Outlook and JAWS 14

Patricia

Hi David:

When entering an email address in the "to" field, is this someone you
are trying to enter as a contact from within your contacts list or
from an email that you have replied to in the past? Outlook has a
memory for names/addresses of people that you have sent email to in
the past, and if you enter the first few letters of those JAWS should
announce those. I know you said that you've checked all the boxes, but
just to cover all bases the box that should be checked here is
"address list auto complete announcement." I personally have had no
success with getting JAWS to announce addresses that have come from
within my contacts list.

I hope this is somewhat helpful. Feel free to email off list should
you have other questions and I might be able to help.

Patricia

issues with Microsoft Word and Outlook 2013 with the latest build of JAWS 14

Patricia

Hi everyone:

Just thought I would post my issues with Outlook and Word, just in
case there were any solutions out there. Note: I'm not super familiar
with either of these products as I've only been running Windows 8 and
Office 2013 for a week now. I'll start with Outlook.

1. I'm fairly certain my first reading issue is something that I'm
missing in the JAWS quick settings area. When in the message list,
JAWS gives me a lot more information than I'm needing, but also not
providing me with the information I do need in a logical order. It
currently says: From, person's name, subject, received, size, flag
status, message status. It sounds like this: "from Joe Smith, subject
hi, received Fri 2:22 PM, size 5 KB, flag status unflagged, message
read." All I want to know is who is it from, (I don't even need the
word "from" to be in there), whether it was read or unread, and if it
is replied to, forwarded, of high or low importance, etc. In Outlook
2010 I used to hear "unread: Joe Smith. re: Hi. Fri December 28 2012
3:22 PM." And depending on whether or not it was replied or forwarded,
where the word "unread" used to be it would say "replied" or
"forwarded."
2. Every time I open a message that has any type of link in it,
Outlook crashes. Sometimes it restarts itself, sometimes it says it
needs to be closed. First I thought it was an Outlook issue, but I had
this tested without JAWS running and it works fine. This has been
tested on multiple computers running JAWS as well, one that doesn't
have any customizations made to JAWS at all.

Now to what seems to be my only issue with Word so far, but an
annoying issue at that. When I enter spellcheck in Word JAWS says the
following: "proofing pane," and then one of the choices one has as
buttons - usually it's the ignore button, but I had it jump to the
"change all" button just as I was verifying this now. There's no
spelling of the misspelled word nor suggesting, but you can tab to see
what the suggestions are but that is all you are given. You have no
context as to what word these suggestions are applying to, nor can you
read the paragraph the word is in with insert+c as one used to be able
to do.

Anyone else experience similar issues or have any suggestions?

Patricia

Re: CCleaner Tutorial

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Howard,

Here you go.

This first link is a download link to an audio tutorial on CCleaner;

http://www.jaws-users.com/audio/Utilities/bct1068CCleaner.mp3

This second link is a download link to the tutorial contained in this post;

http://www.jaws-users.com/text/Disk/CCleaner.html

Brian Lee
Go Back
Take care.

Re: Disabling touch pad mouse on Dell Lattitude D600 Laptop

Dave...

Tom,

On that model Dell Latitude "D" series you unfortunately cannot disable both
the touchpad and touchstick using the mouse properties dialog. One or the
other is always on. There is no Fn + key combination to do this.

However a sighted person can completely disable this in BIOS, which is very
not accessible to me. I had to have my IT specialist at work do this for me
when I had my D630.

Hi Michael,

When you click on the links Carlos or I provided you are in a dialogue box,
on the cancel button. Try invoking the say line keystroke, insert +
uparrow, to see if Jaws reports, cancel. If you hear, cancel, shift + tab 1
time to save, press the spacebar to save, & press enter to download. Hope
this helps.

Have you tried downloading anything else? If so, does IE crash?

Try this one.

It's the slim version, so don't worry about the google tool bar being
installed.

Re: CCleaner Tutorial

Carlos Medrano

There is a CCleaner stand alone installer. It's just in a vary difficult
place to find. After poking around in their website, I found a portable
version (zipped), and a CCleaner slim stand alone installer.
Here's a link to the page:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
The download link is quite a bit down the page.

Carlos,

You say "don't worry about the Google Toolbar installing?" Are you kidding?
It's a pain to have that installed, in my opinion, and I always try to avoid
it or surgically remove it as soon as possible after getting stuck with it.

True for most toolbar add-ons that come with "free" or "light" versions of
software.
