Hi Adrian and all,

I am using Internet Explorer 9, and hyou all have been helpful enough. The problem was that I was used to using the traditional way, so now I didn't know how to access the 'download' button'.

Many thanks,
Gezim

Gezim,

As Jen said, it would help if you could tell us which web browser you're referring to and perhaps what kind of problem you're having. Traditionally, on pressing a download link, you could press alt-s to save to your computer or alt-o to open the file without saving. With IE9, you now need to press alt-n before making these selections, which you find by arrowing.

There might be more to say, but there's no point in going on without knowing the exact problem.

Hi list,

How can I activate ‘save’ or ‘open’ when downloading something with JAWS?

Cheers,

Hi Again All,

With my Win7 Pro 64 bit system I had to stop the, read only edit, dialogue
through, Speech And Sounds Schemes but, I couldn't stop the double speaking

Very clear and comprehensive instructions. Works perfectly. Now only
to get rid off the double speaking of the definition.

Thanks much.

Re: Read Only Edit, Steps On Stopping Jaws From Reporting It

Dave...

Found that if you hit enter 4 or five times on one of the read-only edit
fields with the date, it will say "calendar". then the JAWS cursor will
expose an actual calendar grid, which might allow you to select a different
day.

You most likely haven't choosen what kind of what is you wish to do and your
leave from and arrive place. Do all this and then see if you can change the
date and if still not you need to click on the calendar link / button for
each date and the calendar will come up in a table format and click on the
depart date and then the arrive date and close the calendar and the dates
should be in the fields.

What web site is it?

Re: Read Only Edit, Steps On Stopping Jaws From Reporting It

Dave...

Cynthia,

Nope. A mystery to me. I can find no help on that site. I hear the click
when I press enter on the date to edit, and another click when I hit enter
again, so JAWS thinks it's in edit mode. But it's not allowing any changes.

JFW 7 and 8 with Excel 2010

Danny wells

Hi All,
I'm running Windows 7 Pro with JFW 13.0.1006 . I'm using JFW 7.0.1006
because JFW 14.0.1534 is more sluggish than 7 when working in Excel 2010.
When using the up or down or right or left arrow keys to move from cell to
cell. It sometimes takes a very long time for JFW to respond. Sometimes it
takes 2 seconds or better. Both versions acts this way in Excel, but it
happens more frequently with JFW 14. As you can imagine such sluggishness
in response time is very frustrating. Any help or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Danny

Re: Read Only Edit, Steps On Stopping Jaws From Reporting It

Dave...

Cynthia,

Usually when I find boxes like that, with dates, there is usually another
checkbox, radio button, or combo box that is dictating whether you accept a
particular range of dates (like "last two weeks") or a particular flight #
and airport. If you can find one of those nearby elements, one of them may
enable you to enter your own dates, but only after you've selected the
choice.

Re: Unselecting Graphic's in JFW12?

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Marion,

If you don't want any graphics spoken in all applications, try the
following:
1. Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard, to open the
settings center. Press, control, shift, + D, for the default settings
center. If you don't want graphics spoken in a specific application, open
the specific application & press, Insert + D, to open the settings center
for that particular application.

2. Arrow down to, graphics & symbols, & press arrow to open.

3. Arrow down to, graphics verboscity, press the spacebar until you hear
Jaws report either, labeled graphics or no graphics.

4. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar, to
save your changes & close the settings center.

Hope this helped.

Sounds like a JAWS issue to me. Can you post the website address and any
hints how to get to the edit field? Maybe one or more listers will try it
out.

I agree, it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, it was apparently not the
problem for me. Maybe this isn't a JAWS issue, but my husband has no issue
on his computer - he is sighted.

So, my problem is that there is an edit box in which I am supposed to enter
departure and return dates. However, it is a read only edit box, so I can't
change the dates that are there.

Maybe not a JAWS issue?

Very clear and comprehensive instructions. Works perfectly. Now only
to get rid off the double speaking of the definition.

Thanks much.

Re: Wordweb Dictionary

Mike B. <mb69mach1@...>

Hi All,

While in Word Web, if you go into the Settings Center & set graphics to,
labeled, you don't get that the, read only edit, dialogue. You could also
change the graphics setting with, Insert + V, for quick settings. At least
I don't get the, read only edit, dialogue running J13 & XP Pro. I haven't
had a chance to check it on my Win7 system.

I'm re-posting to make the subject line relevant. Apologies for the
duplication.

Doris,

I took your advice and downloaded Wordweb. It is easy to understand and
navigate. It ought to meet my needs for an off-line dictionary. For me, and
others, it has only one problem that I've noticed so far, but it's a very
distracting one. Each time I open a definition, JAWS says, "Read only edit."
Each time I arrow down through the definition, I get the same verbalization:
"Read only edit. Read only edit."

Have you experienced this? If so, have you solved it?

I'm using Win7 with JAWS 14. I've tested a few options in the quick settings
dialog, but without success. I virtualized the definition window and
switched off the meddlesome graphics, but other random words entered into
the window and disrupted the flow.

So far, Wordweb is the best option, but I think "Read only edit" is going to
haunt my dreams and prevent me from taking advantage of it unless you or
someone else tells me how to make it go away.

Dave,
This message in IE9 pops up periodically and is quite annoying. As you can
see by reading through the tip below that I found with a Google search, it
is annoying to folks who don't use screen readers as well. It was
introduced in IE9 as part of the Microsoft Knows Best Program which is
designed to make everything you want to do on the Internet more difficult.
This is the same program that gives you those dire warnings each time you
try to do something like download a file or install a program. It's also
responsible for getting your screen reader stuck in all of that garbage at
the top of the browser window. (End of rant. Read below for tip.)

Here's the tip for getting rid of at least one of Microsoft's quote helpful
unquote messages.

You can disable this annoying popup message by increasing the performance
threshold and setting it to the maximum limit given.
1. When the popup notification message appears again, click on "Choose
add-ons" button. It'll open a new window.
2. Now look at the bottom of the window. You'll see "Tell me when the delay
caused by add-ons exceeds:" option. It would be set to 0.20 seconds by
default. Click on the drop-down box and set it to 10.00 seconds. Click on
"Done" button and it should disable the popup notification message
permanently.

Philip,

If you have JAWS 14; viewing tables in Outlook email messages is much
easier. Since these messages can be navigated similar to an MSIE page; you
can use navigation commands such as "t" to jump to the next table;
alt+control+left arrow to move to previous cell; alt+control+right arrow to
move to next cell; alt+control+down arrow to move to the next table row and
alt+control+up arrow to move up a row.

Regards.
