Actually Brian, That was Vaughn quoting part of a message I sent. His sentient response was:
Then Freedom Scientific should not charge for products, services and accessories which it claims it cannot provide.

Hi, Jessica. To add a note to Brian's suggestion, if you are unfamiliar as to how to obtain the current web address in Edge, do the following,

1. Open Edge, Open the web page for which you want to make a desktop shortcut.

2. Press ALT plus D for the address bar.

3. Copy that result to the clipboard with CONTROL plus C.

4. Proceed with Brian's instructions:

5.  Go to the desktop and make certain no item has focus.  Then bring up the context menu, whether by SHIFT+F10 or the Applications/Context Menu key, and select New,Shortcut from that menu.
6. In the Create Shortcut dialog that comes up, in the Type the location of the item edit box, enter the web address you need to open,
then activate the Next button.
7. In the Type a name for this shortcut edit box, enter the name of your choosing.
8. Activate the Finish button, which will place the shortcut using the name you choose on your desktop.

Jessica,

Presuming you have Edge set as your default browser, it's much easier just to set up a shortcut on the desktop yourself.

1.  Go to the desktop and make certain no item has focus.  Then bring up the context menu, whether by SHIFT+F10 or the Applications/Context Menu key, and select New,Shortcut from that menu.
2. In the Create Shortcut dialog that comes up, in the Type the location of the item edit box, enter the web address you need to open,
then activate the Next button.
3. In the Type a name for this shortcut edit box, enter the name of your choosing.
4. Activate the Finish button, which will place the shortcut using the name you choose on your desktop.

That shortcut will open that web address in whatever browser you have defined as your default web browser.

moderated Using edge, how do I add a site to my desktop as an icon?

Hi,

I’m using the latest version of edge, with yesterday’s jaws update.

In preparation for Apple’s big keynote on Monday, I’d like to add that particular website to my desktop, as an icon.

However, when  I look at my options in edge, I’m not seeing that, as one of them.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Jessica

I live in Canada too and assuming this would be the case.

I used to deal with Richard from Frontier computing back in the day. It was great – prompt responses, great customer service, very honest and up front.

These days it’s a dealer in Quebec that, not only have I never heard of, last time I bought an SMA, attempted to over charge me before I called them out, took 6 days to call back, and, though they took my money immediately, took a week and a half to actually send me confirmation that yes, my SMA had, in fact, been approved and renewed.

It’s really a shame as customer service from first party (Vispero) Is absolutely great. Of course, I may be in the minority here. Your mileage may vary and things may have improved since here in Canada. I really hope this is the case.

I am not affected by this extension, as I have Professional, but it seems that Freedom Scientific service provision in my part of the World, (New Zealand) has suffered by recent events.

Extended Free Home-Use Software For Those Affected by COVID-19

First and foremost, we hope that you and your family are safe and well.

Thank you for taking advantage of the free home access of JAWS, Fusion and ZoomText. Our goal is simply to help you remain accessible as you work and study remotely. Due to Covid-19, and the impact to our customers, during Summer Schools sessions especially, we have decided to extend the expiration date on the Free June 30th software licenses to August 31, 2020. Your license will automatically be extended so there is nothing extra for you to do.

As many people have requested to continue using the product past the August 31st expiration, we are offering a 20% discount to anyone in the United States to extend their Home Annual License if you purchase your renewal before July 31st. All you need to do to take advantage of this offer is to go into the software portal prior to July 31st and choose the Renewal Option and select 1, 3, or 5 years for the Home Annual license of that product and the renewal time will begin after the August 31st date.

Hi Brian and others,
another workaround to the broken "current folder" functionality is to specify the folder by adding an additional search term. For example, to search for mp3 files in your documents folder, you could use the search terms:
*.mp3 in:documents .
An alternative to in:documents is foldername:documents, but it takes longer to type.

David.

David,

That filtering option is a great workaround for the broken "Current Folder" functionality.  Thanks for giving it.   Anything is easier than manually going through a list of potentially hundreds of files if you really just want to select all that have a given extension, whether for deleting, cutting, copying, etc.

By the way, for anyone who signed up for and is using the temporary license that was set to expire on June 30, 2020, the extension to August occurs automatically.  There is nothing that the end user has to do to request that extension.

First, have you tried rebooting the computer?  One thing you can check is your Word scheme to see if it might have gotten switched.  Press, Insert, alt + S, to open your scheme list, if it's not on Classic or Word classic, navigate to, Word classic for testing purposes, and press enter to switch to this scheme.  Make sure to take notice of what scheme you are using when you invoke the scheme list keystroke in case you want to go back to that scheme.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Subject: problem since recent update

Hey guys and gals,

I have JAWS 2020 and Windows 10. I updated my JAWS this morning.

This has changed the JAWS response while I am typing in a Word document. I
am now hearing how many words are in the document. How do I turn this off?

Thanks for your responses,

Verlyn Baldwin

moderated Re: in win10 in a folder how do you tell Win10 to delete only all the files that have a same particular extension but not the other files in that folder that have different extensions?

David,

That filtering option is a great workaround for the broken "Current Folder" functionality.  Thanks for giving it.   Anything is easier than manually going through a list of potentially hundreds of files if you really just want to select all that have a given extension, whether for deleting, cutting, copying, etc.

JAWS 2020 is even more stable than JAWS 2019.

Every computer is a bit different, but you should have no issues in upgrading.

I've had no problems. Why not go the freedom scientific and download the full install of 2020 and keep your old version. Then if you have problems you can still use your older version.

Yes, I always thought FS/Vispero still offered previous monthly iterations of Jaws, so it was a bit of a shock to find I couldn’t go back.

I am a bit surprised that FS doesn't include previous builds of a particular version of JAWS on their Web site for people who feel the need to revert to a previous build within the same release cycle. While they do have previous versions this only gives you the last version for a particular release.

I just updated Jaws 2020 to the June update on my laptop. When I tried to activate the new Avoid Silence feature it crashes instantly and repeatedly. Now it won’t load for more than a few seconds before crashing. I just removed it and have gone back to the last 2019 version. Is there a way to find and install the version from April? I mean the one that didn’t break email conversion handling in Outlook.

Thanks

John

Two things under this thread:

First, I always download the file and keep it so I can go back to the previous month’s release if needed.

Second, I am having no issues so far with the June update and am not sure what is causing the issues for the person experiencing a lot of crashes.
