I found a keystroke jaws+alt+s where I can change the scheme to read the colors -- I don't know why it did not work when I tried to do it from the settings center, but it seems to work fairly well, only problem is that Jaws goes silent sometimes for 15-20 seconds after I hit jaws-to-pc hot key -- using Chrome.
Thanks for everyones suggestion, I hope this works.

With the current version of Microsoft 365, once focused on the Status bar with F6, you can indeed use the context menu (application) key to get access to the Status Bar options.

Re: word count in MS Word
To show number of lines, line number, or many other
options in the status bar in Word try the following: 1. Press F6 until
Status bar is highlighted. Or, until you hear Jaws report, Status
Toolbar. It should be the 2nd press of the F6 key. 2. Press Shift + F10
to show options. This keystroke must be used because a right mouse click
or pressing the application key will not. 3. Down arrow through the available
options, and when you have found line count or something else of interest press
the spacebar to check or uncheck the item. 4. when done making
modifications simply press AltF4 or escape key. 5. Review your status line
to insure the settings have been properly modified.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. *My body

Re: word count in MS Word
Until recently, pressing Jaws key 3 has told me the number of words in my MS Word document. It now tells me the number of characters and which line I am on but I am having to press function key 6 in order to get a word count. Is there a way I can amend this? Alison

I’ll be surprised if the ReadSelectedText hotkey, JAWSKey+Shift+down arrow identifies text that has been highlighted by a web developer or document author. The only keystroke that might work is JAWSKey+5 (on the number row) to identify color, and I’m not too optimistic about that either.

Jaws +f gives the font, but its the same, the colors are what is different, and although the person says isomething was hilighted, that is what was meant. On Sat, 13 Jun 2020 14:37:10 -0400, Adrian Spratt wrote: John,

Hi. OI am using Jaws 2020 latest update and I can't seem to read hilighted text on web page. What I am trying to read are options with y/n choices and one of them is hilighted. I tried to use a different sound scheme such as attributes and colors, but no joy.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: excel - defining names
Hi again,
In that same edit box, you type rowtitle (one word, no spaces) if you only want to hear row titles. Type in columntitle (again, no spaces) if you only want to hear the column titles. If you ever get it messed up, hit Control F3 to bring you into the name manager where you can delete them and start over.

Re: Notifications
Hi,
Try pressing Windows A which brings you to the Actions Center. Then Tab to the list box of notifications. You should be able to down arrow through recent and read them notifications there.
